To ask if you've treated yourself to something as a pick me up right now, and what it is

So We're all stuck in as we know. I have a newborn and a 2.5yo, and DH wfh so most of my day is chaos with one millisecond of the day to myself. Oh and its my birthday this week (woooo).
I've not spent any money of late as DH does our food shop (I cover all bills and budgeted some spending money for mat leave). I am still in mat clothes thanks to not being able to get new ones I can fit in but I am comfy and reluctant to have to return items. I am generally not someone that spends money on myself, it mostly goes on the kids.

But like most, I am low and anxious, and want to 'treat' myself but no idea where to start in the current climate.

So has anyone treated themselves and if so what, why and did it work??

My son is 16 tomorrow! He has nothing as we spent £300 for a liverpool game...no refund, all is good as we are alive!!!

FullOfCake · 14/04/2020 23:42

I love the amount of wine purchased 🤣 we are a nation of people that drink when we're happy and sad.

Lots of nice gifts and suggestions.

And for those that said they don't have money for expensive treats, I didn't say expensive! A treat could be a mars bar or a creme egg if that's what you consider a treat 😊 i bloody love biscuits BTW...

Kate Middleton pink blazer from M&S, was the last one & my size. Fancied the matching trousers, but no luck!
Nowhere to wear it, obviously (and it doesn’t fit over my bump!), but enjoying posing in the bedroom mirror for now.

Queenie8 Suave Rose Oil Infusion, but I'm not in the UK, and I don't know if it's available there at a reasonable price.

It's not a posh brand (a cheaper version of Matrix Oil Wonders Volume Rose), but either it's decent quality or I'm easily pleased, because I'm enjoying it. Grin

I’ve bought a bunch of things for the house and garden. They’re treats for me as having everywhere looking nicer (or presentable as my garden is an overgrown wreck I was planning to tackle this summer anyway) is really helping to keep my spirits up and all the DIY/gardening gives me something to do.

RingaRosie · 14/04/2020 23:59

Oldraver... Cat tunic?

A tunic with cat design?
Or a tunic for your cat?

CherryBakebadly · 15/04/2020 00:00

Beanies flavoured coffee and aromatherapy oils

Forgot the €1 bunch of Irish daffodils with the Tesco shop. My dad was told he tested positive for Covid 19 today. He seems to be over the worst of it and has avoided hospital so far thanks to his Cpap machine and the extra steroids and antibiotics from the GP. He has a lot of health issues, including a mild heart attack, for which he had stents inserted, no pituitary gland as it was destroyed by a benign tumour for which he had 2 surgeries and radiotherapy, diabetes from the steroids he is on since his pituary was removed, sleep apnoea and high blood pressure. His tumour seems to be genetic as I have benign tumours on my parathyroid glands as does one of my sisters and another sister has a benign pituary tumour as well. My dad didn't have a high temperature at all, just a slight chesty cough and more fatigue than usual. So we're delighted with that news but my mum has to be tested now as she has a hoarse sore throat and a slight chesty cough as well. She had a lumpectomy about 6 weeks ago and is supposed to be having radiotherapy for breast cancer but refuses to go to Dublin to have it done as all the virus cases are there! The irony of it.

CherryBakebadly · 15/04/2020 00:00

I also wish to know about the cat tunic!

@Rachel1350

They maybe not be essential items however we are supporting the economy, to save jobs and ensure companies stay afloat in these tough times.

Northernsoulgirl45 · 15/04/2020 00:05

Gin and a big Easter Egg. Will definitely need a new wardrobe at the end of lockdown.

funnyoldonion · 15/04/2020 00:15

New mirror, wall shelf, towel / toilet roll holder , bath mat and hand towel from La Redoute for downstairs loo

Florawest · 15/04/2020 00:18

Hollyhobbi,
wishing your mum, dad and the rest of your family the best of luck, worrying times but your dad is doing well as will the rest of us.

All I seem to be buying is crisps and chocolate oh and of course my Kenwood food mixer which got very little use in the 2 years since I purchased it, is out non stop now, banana bread is one of the families favourite along with Apple tarts.

Have supported few charities on-line.

Afraid to think about clothes as my belly has really popped out, but not going to stress too much, will get back to normal eating once things get back to normal.

Glassmami · 15/04/2020 00:29

It's my birthday this week as well OP 🥳 I've been craving an ice cold margarita ever since we've been in lock down so I've ordered myself a cocktail mixer, if I've got to spend my birthday in lockdown I may as well get hammered 🤣

Talisin · 15/04/2020 00:30

A sequin skirt from the depths of the Warehouse sale that I’d been eyeing since before Christmas. £16, free delivery and it’s gorgeous - and now seems likely to be the last thing I’ll ever buy from them:(

Italiangreyhound · 15/04/2020 00:33

Pincolada in a tin (made by Malibu)! I am an 80s girl!

louderthan · 15/04/2020 00:33

Butterymuffin · 15/04/2020 00:44

Nice bath products and skincare
Comfy clothes for WFH
Books
Chocolate and Fentimans tonic water
Magazine and comic subscriptions

Dogwalks2 · 15/04/2020 00:51

Another one who has bought a Lazy Spa, always said no to the kids thinking it was a bit chazzy. Well I am a fully paid up member of chavtastic. Daughter had to come home from amazing gap year so it’s a little help from being completely hedonistic in the exciting new countries to being lockdown in northern England. We go in it twice a day and talk amongst ourselves more than normal🌈

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 15/04/2020 01:21

Bought absolutely bugger all to treat myself, but if you're doing isolation on your own, I really REALLY suggest a feather duvet. They're so soft and squashable that if you're missing hugs you can squish them around you and have something to snuggle against.

naughtycat · 15/04/2020 02:45

I bought an electric Essential Oil Diffuser from the (non-essential!) middle isle of delights while grocery shopping in Lidl. I absolutely love it! Best £15 I have ever spent. It is sooooo relaxing 😁

MinnieJackson · 15/04/2020 04:38

its not much to add but happy birthday! the only thing I buy apart from children's things is books and bubble bath lol. Hope you have great bday
anyway!
