To ask if you've treated yourself to something as a pick me up right now, and what it is

So We're all stuck in as we know. I have a newborn and a 2.5yo, and DH wfh so most of my day is chaos with one millisecond of the day to myself. Oh and its my birthday this week (woooo).
I've not spent any money of late as DH does our food shop (I cover all bills and budgeted some spending money for mat leave). I am still in mat clothes thanks to not being able to get new ones I can fit in but I am comfy and reluctant to have to return items. I am generally not someone that spends money on myself, it mostly goes on the kids.

But like most, I am low and anxious, and want to 'treat' myself but no idea where to start in the current climate.

So has anyone treated themselves and if so what, why and did it work??

A dyson airwrap - life changer.

CharityDingle · 03/05/2020 10:50

Because I'm in the house a lot, wfh etc, I treated myself to some scented candles. I find it soothing to light them in the evenings.

slipperyeel · 03/05/2020 10:52

A couple of bottles of champagne of favourite perfumes so they can transport me back to happier times

MagnificentMillie · 03/05/2020 10:56

@LilyE1234 dd would like an air wrap, are they really worth it then?

Queenie8 · 03/05/2020 11:12

I have bought the DC a set of Castle pencils - blendable/shading etc, two nintendo ds games 2nd hand from ebay, and I have treated myself with birthday money from last year to a Monica Vinader Nura teardrop ring (half price in the sale, although it appears to be full price again) www.monicavinader.com/classic-diamond-cocktail-ring/rose-gold-vermeil-nura-teardrop-ring?search=nura%20teardrop and a dress from uniqlo.

LilyE1234 · 03/05/2020 11:15

@MagnificentMillie I think it depends on your hair type. Mine is long, thick and prone to frizz. I used to spend at least 45 mins trying to dry it and then would spend an age straightening it. Now I can get it from wet to straight in 20 mins and wet to bouncy curls in 30 mins and it’s so much shinier too!

My friend has long, thin hair and uses it for volume and she swears by it too.

MagnificentMillie · 03/05/2020 11:27

Thanks Lily, I think you might have sold it to me!

Luckystar1 · 03/05/2020 11:29

I got a Neom mystery box. It is divine. I’m going to order some L’Occitane stuff too I think.

lovinglavidaloca · 03/05/2020 11:30

I’ve bought some new workout leggings from Ebay and ordered some fancy pants shampoo the other day to try and get my hair into better condition.

lovinglavidaloca · 03/05/2020 11:33

@LilyE1234 I wear my hair straight pretty much all of the time so would it be wasted on me? Would love to be able to get my hair presentable without resorting to straighteners. I have been trying to learn to dry it properly in lockdown though!

MintyCedric · 03/05/2020 11:34

We had a Lush and a Hotel Chocolat delivery in the first week of lockdown, and set up a Graze box order (which I'm going to cancel as it's not as good as it used to be).

We've also acquired Disney Plus.

LilyE1234 · 03/05/2020 11:49

@lovinglavidaloca I wear mine straight too so I don’t think it would be wasted on you. The shine that you get from it is worth it and the brush head used to straighten is a lot easier/quicker than using straighteners. It’s also a lot better for your hair than drying and then straightening - it’s done at a much lower temperature.

lovinglavidaloca · 03/05/2020 11:57

Very tempted! Now just to find £450 Grin

Anchovies12 · 03/05/2020 12:02

A cookbook (the quick roasting tin - highly recommended) and a caroline hirons skincare kit.

Anchovies12 · 03/05/2020 12:04

Those talking about hair products, definitely consider the ghd glide. Much gentler than straighteners but still a polished look. I got one for christmas and my fine and coloured hair has never been in such good condition.

Bridecilla · 03/05/2020 12:19

Those ordering from lush... ds loves a bath bomb and I usually buy him body shop ones. Lush are so speedy though. £5 plus for 1 bath?? Do you put the whole thing in? Can you break a piece off to last a few baths?

winterisstillcoming · 03/05/2020 12:20

@MagnificentMillie join some of the Facebook groups. From what I gather it's really difficult to get curls to hold. I think I will have trouble with this but I've also got it to get the straight look with lots of volume.

I got the complete with the longer barrels. I think those are only available from dyson or JL but qvc slightly cheaper as they give cash back and £5 off your first order and you can try it for 30 days and give it back quibble free.

Ronia · 03/05/2020 12:58

I bought:
New filter coffee machine and mine was cracking and falling apart from years of constant use.
New amazing yoga mat - again current one gets daily use and is very, very worn. Also got a bolster as I've always wanted one for support and meditation.
Pair of Scamp and Dude joggers - super comfy for daily wear and look lovely.

Also bought some.board games for kids and some.nice bright t shirts in Boden sale so my top half looks bright on work calls but I'm still comfy.

AnnieCartwright · 03/05/2020 14:04

For those considering Dyson hair wraps, look at QVC. They have them on easypay' and you can return up to 28 days if it's not for you. You'd have to pay return postage, but cheaper than keeping it if it's not working for you.

FWIW, I love my Dyson hairdryer. I have very thick hair that just holds onto water after washing it. My hair is much shinier and in better condition and I rarely need to straighten it now.

LovingLola · 03/05/2020 14:08

A Neom 4 wick candle is on its way. I got it on Brandalley - reduced from £150 to £90 and I had a £20 voucher so got it for £70.

MagnificentMillie · 03/05/2020 14:28

@winterisstillcoming thank you, I will do that.

ghostyslovesheets · 03/05/2020 14:31

new bedding and curtains
new bedroom furniture
perfume
vans

lovinglavidaloca · 03/05/2020 15:25

Dyson themselves are doing 0% finance for a year on the Airwrap which seems good. My OH has told me just to go for it but the guilt of spending that much money on myself is strong!

Thighmageddon · 03/05/2020 15:32

I've got an airwrap complete, there's another short thread with some of us saying it's a game changer.

Dyson did use PayPal credit to purchase their products.

If you can afford it then get it, totally transformed hairstyling for my ridiculously hard work hair.

HermioneWeasley · 03/05/2020 16:41

Some snag tights as they said they’re in difficulty and I’d hate for them to go under
