To ask if you've treated yourself to something as a pick me up right now, and what it is

So We're all stuck in as we know. I have a newborn and a 2.5yo, and DH wfh so most of my day is chaos with one millisecond of the day to myself. Oh and its my birthday this week (woooo).
I've not spent any money of late as DH does our food shop (I cover all bills and budgeted some spending money for mat leave). I am still in mat clothes thanks to not being able to get new ones I can fit in but I am comfy and reluctant to have to return items. I am generally not someone that spends money on myself, it mostly goes on the kids.

But like most, I am low and anxious, and want to 'treat' myself but no idea where to start in the current climate.

So has anyone treated themselves and if so what, why and did it work??

Some plants (monstera, devil's ivy and a Boston fern) and lovely beaten copper pots for them to live in. And a Beautypie subscription

cashmerecardigans · 01/05/2020 23:42

I've gone for the retro matte liquid lip colour in metallic rose. I've no idea where I'll wear it, but it looks lovely and will make me feel better in the midst of this lockdown horror

SunshineCake · 02/05/2020 08:22

*@MulberryPeony, my kids are all over 14 so I'm happy to share, and DD is a talented artist who has some manga books so I'm happy to share. The pens are really for me though Smile. My DH used to work for a company that sold them and may even have invented them iirc. I told him last night he should have got us more freebies when he was there. I think we got six pens!

DH still asleep but if he doesn't wake up soon I'm opening the Lakeland box without him. Grrrr.

OneOfTheGrundys · 02/05/2020 08:26

Nice Toast clothes. All half price.
New hens.
A lovely teachers planner for next year.

OneOfTheGrundys · 02/05/2020 08:29

My new bantam babies. 💚

A pair of new Nike’s, some Nivea Sun perfume (it smells like the sun cream and I love it!), a new bag and a pair of Ray-bans.

MinesaPinot · 02/05/2020 09:07

Rebooked a cruise for next year
A new Brabantia rotary dryer - turned up when hailstones the size of golfballs were coming down!
Some tops and an unlined leopard print jacket from Zara all in their reductions.
Lovely Marseille bar soaps, handwash and handcream.

Am sorely tempted by some silver jewellery and a canvas bag with a glittery star on it. And have promised myself a Sarah Haran bag for when I eventually go back to the office.

NervousInYorkshire · 02/05/2020 11:19

Some flowers from Bloom & Wild, thanks to someone posting a £10 off code on here.

They're lovely :)

thequeenbeyondthewall · 02/05/2020 11:34

Some nice bits stuff from boohoo.
Some burgundy knee boots from Clarke's.
Possibly some
Bits from eBay I have my eye on

tempnamechange98765 · 02/05/2020 11:37

Ooh love this sort of thread! Will read fully later.

We've bought/buying a few bits for the house, like a lovely big collage photo frame, but I've not actually bought myself one thing as a treat come to think of it. Might steal some ideas from this thread.

MonaLisaDoesntSmile · 02/05/2020 11:42

Some clothes and a bottle of perfume I was eyeing for a long time.

SliAnCroix · 02/05/2020 11:44

I bought cristalle which seems to be unavailable to order online from brown thomas. I just hope it shows up. The website I ordered it from wasn't one I've heard of [nervous]

BlueJava · 02/05/2020 11:47

I'm fortunate to not feel like I need a pickup, but my treats this week are: some new vegan soap with mint and charcoal (Billy and Lillys on etsy) and we're having a full English breakfast (us and 2 teenage DS) cooked by DP for brunch today.

SliAnCroix · 02/05/2020 12:02

I just had a look on toast website as I like their shirts but the priiiiiiiices Shock

Nothing was half price @OneOfTheGrundys

ofwarren · 02/05/2020 12:28

A weighted blanket, a couple of new tops from Duns and a new pair of Run & Fly dungarees!

WalkingInTheAir13 · 02/05/2020 12:50

@Ilovelblue
My gorgeous treats were from Hoods Honey too!
Prosecco and Strawberry candles and diffusers.

These special treats somehow take on more significance during lockdown.

OneOfTheGrundys · 02/05/2020 12:50

@SliAnCroix I know I could never afford full price. 😱
It was a couple of weeks ago and for a few days.
Their sales are good and there’s a good market on ebay for it too if you want to buy/sell.

SunshineCake · 02/05/2020 14:01

I've opened it *@everythingisginandroses.

I've got

  • Pastry Blender.
  • Dough Scraper.
  • Easter got chocolate bombe.
  • Bunny food sweets for the kids.
  • Strawberry liquorice for the kids.
  • Rhubarb and gin chocolate for a friend.
  • Potato Bag.
  • Magic non-stick liner.
  • Vanilla flavouring.
  • Klippits.

I've used the dough scraper already and wish I'd bought it years ago.

That all came to just over £41 and I've got another £21 worth of stuff coming next week and about £55 in the basket.

Gooseygoosey12345 · 02/05/2020 14:10

Lots of yarn to make crochet things. My husband bought me a banjo. I bought DD a guitar, DS some toys and DH a drum (lucky the neighbours can't hear us!). Some new exercise clothes. I'm about to purchase a lounge wear set but can't find one I love. Somehow still have more money left over than usual, luckily our income hasn't changed much!

FatherWindyShepherdHenderson · 02/05/2020 14:12

I treated myself to an Apple Watch 5 as I’ve now lost over 20kgs in weight and my old Fitbit just wasn’t cutting it anymore (kept losing steps). Also a new iPhone 11 as my old 6s is on its way out. They’re treats to congratulate myself on the weight loss as it’s a big thing for an overindulgent fatty like me! 🤣

MinesaPinot · 02/05/2020 14:15

I've just ordered 3 pairs of wide leg pull on crepe jersey trousers from Uniqlo. I need something to feel comfortable in when WFH - my jeans don't cut it (or they do, where I need to lose a bit of weight Smile).

I was going to sit out in the garden and read my book, but it's come over a bit dark, so am giving in to the temptation of MN and the Zara website.

everythingisginandroses · 02/05/2020 14:23

Fab, @SunshineCake - I want a dough scraper now! The magic oven liner is brilliant.

lotusbell · 02/05/2020 14:52

Leggings - all I live in at the moment
Skincare - that i don't really need as I've loads to get through already
A large-ish order from Lush - inspired by earlier poster, again, not massively needed but by the time it arrives it will be nearly my 40th so that's my excuse. Ahem.
Some Davines all in one milk which I keep reading about. My hair is horrendous at the moment so I'm hoping this will help. It won't, what will help is a haircut, but...
Probably quite a bit more but I'm finding my weekly shop is far more than I'd usually spend in 'normal' times and OH is furloughed so trying to not get too carried away with treats Hmm

Chesneyhawkes1 · 02/05/2020 15:18

Layzspa and a treadmill.

Also some joggers for wearing indoors all day.

My friend sent me some Ugg slippers too. They are so comfy and warm

Gilead · 02/05/2020 15:51

A tablet so that I can watch things in bed! A tart make up deal on qvc.
