I'm staying in. My family are staying in and elderly relatives really suffering with depression and loneliness but still following guidelines. I'm exercising by walking the dog early morning around the block. I.e streets close to my house. I don't need a park or a beach. I certainly dont need to dance the tango in finsbury park. AIBU to be disgusted in people and their clear disregard for others safety. I cant believe their behaviour.

Can't do this in their box flat can they? And walking around the block doesn't really cut it when you're used to this level of active.

Casino218 · 13/04/2020 07:41

Why can't you dance in the park, or cycle or run? Everyone is different and has a different view of what constitutes exercise. You are being unreasonable to expect everyone else to have your view. No where does it say that individuals are expected to just walk.

yearinyearout · 13/04/2020 07:43

Oh for fuck's sake. Assuming they live in the same house, and they're not going within two metres of anyone else, they are doing no harm. In fact I expect the sight of them cheered a few people up.

Thankful2020 · 13/04/2020 07:48

Gosh OP, you are miserable aren’t you? It’s exercise and it might cheer someone. Maybe one of them is struggling mentally and this was something to do to distract them etc. Cheer up OP. Lockdown is hard for some of us. Anything to break the day’s monotony.

Dancing is form of exercise by the way. Not every enjoys a walk.

AvalancheKit · 13/04/2020 07:50

I’m calling this Fake News.

The foliage on those trees looks significantly further ahead than the second week of April. And significantly further ahead than contemporaneous pictures of London parks.

AvalancheKit · 13/04/2020 07:51

Old stock photo. Where did it first appear? Tabloid newspaper?

Jollypolly999 · 13/04/2020 07:52

@Mydogatemypurse who are you to define what people do as exercise? They could be professional dancers who need to practice and dont have the space. Whilst it may seem unnecessary to you, it is a form of exercise and I think its also none of your business how people Choose to stay fit in these very dark times. Take a chill pill ffs.

Roussette · 13/04/2020 08:13

Even if it is an old stock photo, it does show how ridiculous some people are.

Roussette · 13/04/2020 08:13

When I say ridiculous, I don't mean the lovely couple doing the Tango by the way

Bluntness100 · 13/04/2020 08:21

Why would you feel happier if they were just walking rather than dancing for their exercise op? Is it because they would get less enjoyment, and you feel people should not enjoy anything during this period?

VegetableMunge · 13/04/2020 08:24

You're being utterly fucking ridiculous OP.

JudyCoolibar · 13/04/2020 08:35

As I said, at the moment it could encourage others to do the same.

Seriously? You think that all over the country there are crowds of frustrated ballroom dancers just waiting for someone else to take the lead before joining in en masse?

Head, wobble.

JudyCoolibar · 13/04/2020 08:46

Not everyone cares to see a dance routine

So what? The world is full of things that other people don't care to see. Hot news: we have movable legs, heads and eyes, to say nothing of eyelids that close, all of which are wonderfully helpful when it comes to avoiding stuff we don't want to see.

midgebabe · 13/04/2020 08:57

We did a rain dance yesterday in the garden

It worked!

HollysBush · 13/04/2020 09:18

😁This thread has really made me smile. Never seen the video to ‘In demand’ before. Lovely.

Tellmetruth4 · 13/04/2020 09:27

How do you even know this is a recent picture? It could’ve been from last summer for all we know.

I’ve seen pictures in papers supposedly of Londoners congregating in parks in March where all of the trees are fully green and people are holding take away coffee cups. They suspiciously look like old photos from previous summers aimed at winding people up.

Member869894 · 13/04/2020 09:27

God forbid they might do something so joyous amidst such misery. YABVU

BrightYellowDaffodil · 13/04/2020 09:40

Jeez OP, are you always this much of a fun sponge or is it a skill you honed during the lockdown. People like you make Oliver Cromwell look like one of the fucking Chuckle Brothers.

I suggest you go back to weaving that hair shirt whilst kneeling on some stones and beating yourself with a stick.

Fluffydogdog · 13/04/2020 09:43

I have no problem at all with this. Why would you?

They’re exercising in their local park.

I get how lonely some people are, and how scared, but turning on others who don’t look lonely or scared won’t help you feel better.

NigelCrab · 13/04/2020 09:43

IM SO MISERABLE!
I DEMAND EVERYBODY IS AS MISERABLE AS ME!!!!!

Right OP?

Is now a good time to tell you that I’ve been having the best bank holiday weekend Ive had for probably forever with my household?

P.S you should go to the local Facebook pages. Plenty of Les Miserables there for you to join in with.

bridgetreilly · 13/04/2020 09:45

In a similar vein, I love this story about a couple dressing up in historical re-enactment costumes for their daily promenade: www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-beds-bucks-herts-52214966

isabellerossignol · 13/04/2020 09:46

Not everyone cares to see a dance routine

I know! Some people probably have no eyelids, so they can't stop looking at it right? And no neck muscles so they can't turn their head the other way to avoid it?

Won't someone think of those people, please!

Crystal87 · 13/04/2020 09:49

I can't see that they are doing anything wrong. What's the difference between someone walking, running or stood on the spot doing squats? Probably because you see dancing as more fun, therefore it must be wrong.

TeaStory · 13/04/2020 09:52

I think this brings together 2 toxic attitudes:

  1. Exercise must be hard/painful/difficult, and if you are indulging in joyful movement then that doesn’t count and you’re probably a lazy fatty.
  1. Anyone who does something they are vaguely good at where other people can see it are show-offs who only want attention, and therefore are stupid horrible people who we disapprove of.

FFS, lets just let people enjoy things. Why can people just leave others alone to do their thing? WHY is it okay to say “I just don’t like XYZ thing therefore no-one should be allowed to do it, even though it has no impact on me at all”?

caradelvigna · 13/04/2020 09:53

I think this is fantastic! Good on them.
