I'm staying in. My family are staying in and elderly relatives really suffering with depression and loneliness but still following guidelines. I'm exercising by walking the dog early morning around the block. I.e streets close to my house. I don't need a park or a beach. I certainly dont need to dance the tango in finsbury park. AIBU to be disgusted in people and their clear disregard for others safety. I cant believe their behaviour.

Thank you, @GlummyMcGlummerson

Although, I ought to give credit to my mentor; the legend that is Mr Kevin Bacon

LaurieFairyCake · 12/04/2020 21:55

YOU don't get to decide what someone's exercise is Hmm

They probably don't have room at home

Bet no one would say anything if it was an Olympian or Paralympian lifting weights/running/ etc

GlummyMcGlummerson · 12/04/2020 21:55

Perspicacia - does the OP need to explain this again to you and the entire nation? Go out early as early as possible. Get a dog if you don’t already have one. Then walk, head down, around the block. Nowhere else. Do not pause. Do NOT be tempted to move anything except your legs and certainly, ensure at all times that you do not give off an impression of enjoying it. If you see anyone doing anything else, move those feet faster and get home ASAP to proclaim it on high via MN.

Yes and if you see a friend or neighbour, and bey try to talk to you from 5m away, either dive ie the nearest bush or just scream your head off and run home immediately!!

Roussette · 12/04/2020 21:55

@Wewearpinkonwednesdays

Yes, someone posted that out to me and I've apologised for being a bit slow.

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 12/04/2020 21:56

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, ye-ah...

Wewearpinkonwednesdays · 12/04/2020 21:57

I could see why you would think I was being serious, I think some people genuinely believe that may be the case 🤷‍♀️

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 12/04/2020 21:57

Re the hobby/exercise thing, it's why competitive ballroom/Latin is branded as dancesport. It's a performance sport, but it's still a sport. There are quite a few scientific studies about heart rate, calories burned compared with other types of exercise.

Roussette · 12/04/2020 21:59

Wewearpinkonwednesdays I know! I keep muttering to myself 'the world's gone mad' !

Russellbrandshair · 12/04/2020 21:59

I understood that there was a difference between exercise and hobby

Dancing IS exercise though- if you’ve ever danced a lot, it’s knackering. It’s a great cardio vascular workout which means it’s ideal for keeping people fit to fight off corona.

I get that you think they’re having too much fun and that our allotted exercise should be miserable and joyless and we should look like we just swallowed a wasp whilst doing it but not everyone shares your miserable opinion, luckily.

GlummyMcGlummerson · 12/04/2020 22:00

You're all very welcome 🤤

LilacTree1 · 12/04/2020 22:02

OP where did you get this picture?

Roussette · 12/04/2020 22:02

The picture is in the press today, I saw it somewhere else

nearlynermal · 12/04/2020 22:03

Also: while ensuring your exercise is as joyless as possible, make sure to arrange your face in the "Sucking A Wasp" expression.

WhereYouLeftIt · 12/04/2020 22:03

"I certainly dont need to dance the tango in finsbury park."
What you seem to need is to get that stick out of your arse Hmm. It's going to cause an injury.

"AIBU to be disgusted in people and their clear disregard for others safety."
Would you care to explain how this couple are disregarding other people's safety? Seriously, how does this differ from a couple out walking together? Had I seen them whilst I was out walking, I'd have felt immensely cheered. Would have done my mental health a power of good.

"I cant believe their behaviour."
I can't believe yours.

nearlynermal · 12/04/2020 22:04

@russelbrandshair you beat me to it!

MigginsMs · 12/04/2020 22:05

Me too but if people are out doing stuff thats unnecessary they could be carriers

As they could be if they were walking? Get a grip

MsTSwift · 12/04/2020 22:05

Lovely to see good for them

PancakePattie · 12/04/2020 22:06

Thousands and thousands of couples live in tiny flats with no room for dancing (and neighbours in close proximity who wouldn't thank them if they did) within easy walking distance of Finsbury Park.
Dancing the tango is no different to going for a jog or a bike ride, if that's your "thang". Don't be a bitter killjoy.

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 12/04/2020 22:06

Stop frothing, OP.

thewhalesaresinging · 12/04/2020 22:06

Just to be clear - to be be morally on the high ground we must only do exercise that we don't enjoy? And if we find ourselves accidentally enjoying what we are doing, we must stop and find something less fun to do?

In fact, I suggest that should be applying in all areas of our lives, NOT just exercise. Eating, looking at pretty scenery, enjoying the company of your family, dtd - if you are enjoying it I suggest you take a long hard look at yourself.

B1rdbra1n · 12/04/2020 22:07

I think to be on the safe side I will carry some sticks with which to beat myself next time I am enduring my gvt mandated period of unhappy marching

WhereYouLeftIt · 12/04/2020 22:08

@GlummyMcGlummerson! Thank you for the Rickman video, I've never seen it before.

That's my vivid dream for tonight sorted then ... Grin

Amanduh · 12/04/2020 22:09

Yanbu. It’s fucking stupid, as are the people who will argue themselves inside out because ‘but it’s technically allowed its the rules!!!!’

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 12/04/2020 22:10

😍

Russellbrandshair · 12/04/2020 22:13

@nearlynermal
