Couple doing the tango in finsbury park

Mydogatemypurse · 12/04/2020 20:30

I'm staying in. My family are staying in and elderly relatives really suffering with depression and loneliness but still following guidelines. I'm exercising by walking the dog early morning around the block. I.e streets close to my house. I don't need a park or a beach. I certainly dont need to dance the tango in finsbury park. AIBU to be disgusted in people and their clear disregard for others safety. I cant believe their behaviour.

@Shitsgettingcrazy whilst I’ve heard the 30-60 min thing thrown around a lot I think again it’s the clinical director in that link that said it, during a briefing with the First Minister.

BoingBoingyBoing · 12/04/2020 22:14

We have to remember that we are absolutely not allowed to have any fun during the lockdown.

All exercise should be hellish deathmarches with NO let up. Heaven fucking forbid anyone who stops to, say, tie their laces or have a sip of water HAVE YOU NO SHAME.

Isitweekendyet · 12/04/2020 22:14

Bloody hell, you focus on you and they can focus on them.

Chances are they live together and are exercising how they want.

They're not hurting anyone, they're not bothering anyone... keep your neb out.

There isn't an approved list of what can and cannot be approved as exercise. They're not breaking any of the quarantine laws if they're from the same household... what's the issue?!

MigginsMs · 12/04/2020 22:14

According to the OP "It's not a holiday" - so fucking what do you only ever enjoy yourself on holiday?

Besides the fact it is actually a holiday

GlummyMcGlummerson · 12/04/2020 22:14

@WhereYouLeftIt absolutely! Or as a good friend of mine would say, one for the wank bank Grin

quince2figs · 12/04/2020 22:14

Aaah, had forgotten how glorious the Rickman was in that video (not that he wasn’t the rest of the time, of course). Still can’t belive he’s gone 🙁

WhereYouLeftIt · 12/04/2020 22:15

@LilacTree1 the picture was in The Sun.

Ivebeentohellanditscalledikea · 12/04/2020 22:17

I can't get worked up about this good for them as long as they live together. The teenagers all in a massive group at the park smoking weed on the other hand. Angry

AutumnLeavesSeptember · 12/04/2020 22:19

This is the best ever "outrage" thread !

GlummyMcGlummerson · 12/04/2020 22:19

I always wonder what kind of houses these frothy busybodies live in. My friend lives in a studio flat in Pimlico the size of a postage stamp (and the cost of my 4 bed up North but that's neither here nor there) and doesn't even have a balcony - her mental health is relying on 3 hour walks/bike rides a day. My friend's sister posted a (goady and inaccurate re the rules - they claim we can only have 1 hour tops outdoors) DM article today about people out for the bank holiday in built up cities. Pictures of people walking - yes it's lots of people in one street but seemingly far apart, and if they're locals out for their daily exercise, what are they supposed to do if they find lots of people are out too when they've already got well into their walk - evaporate? Anyway she posted a massive "STAY THE FUCK AT HOME" rant: it's alright for her she lives on a farm with 2 acres of land to enjoy!

CoffeeCoffeeTea · 12/04/2020 22:20

Hi OP, can you confirm when that photo was taken .
Also , if they were observing social distancing what is the problem.
However, If you are an at risk case (pulmonary disease, copd,, asthma , diabetes , obesity, TB) you really need to stay at home and avoid people And I understand your concern.

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 12/04/2020 22:20

the picture was in The Sun.

Well, OP. All this yabu is what you get for reading shitrags like The Scum.

GlummyMcGlummerson · 12/04/2020 22:21

@quince2figs me too, I watched Sense and Sensibility the other night (Rickman and Wise heaven, oh how they spoiled us with that adaptation 😍) he looks so gorgeous and plays the part so well it made me really sad to watch actually

Puffalicious · 12/04/2020 22:21

Fun sponge alert. Do you normally suck all the joy out of every situation or is it just right now? Ffs.

Willybumbum · 12/04/2020 22:23

We had a BBQ in our postage stamp of a garden yesterday, and did an impromptu dance after a horrible couple of weeks and first family loss - glad you didn't catch us in the act to hoist your judgy pants out our seeming happy-go-lucky moment....

They were acting in line with government guidelines, not hurting anyone and keeping their spirits / mental health up.

Don't see a reason for upset here, unless they were part of a flash mob.

BogRollBOGOF · 12/04/2020 22:24

My children favour exercising by walking with sticks to beat each other with Grin

As long as they're not in a position to obstruct other people from using the space safely, it's a great form of exercise, cheerful and unlikely to attract hoards doing the same thing. One of the things I loved when travelling through China, was the normalcy of public fitness, tai-chi and line dancing being very popular.

I'm not sure how walking around the block qualifies as exercise unless you are spectacularly unfit (and many with significant obstructions to fitness will not be going out due to shielding). The only time that ever counted as exercise was about 3 weeks post-EMCS/ HDU visit while recovering from being housebound from SPD. 90% of people "going for a walk" can barely call it physical exercise if we're being really pedantic. However just getting out is mentally healthy and even slow plodding movement is better than no movement (so I don't really have an issue with it other than just being devil's advocate Wink )

Dowser · 12/04/2020 22:29

I think it’s lovely.
Cheering themselves up and others at the same time.
I hope we aren’t turning into a nation of sourpusses.
I’m more worried about that than the fucking virus

biscuitsanddiddums · 12/04/2020 22:37

My mate’s dp dresses up in his cosplay gear to go for his walks. I mean, I think he’s a narcissistic twat who is struggling desperately through lack of attention during lockdown, but technically I don’t give a fuck. Fair play. If he wants everyone to stare at him and he’s neither spreading the virus nor putting himself or others in more danger, have at it. Sounds like a nightmare to me.
I still give him lots of likes on sm, even if I hoik my judgy pants in private.
I quite admire the tango two. They are both in it. It isn’t one person demanding the public gaze and the other one being forced to run along behind taking photos and posting them to prove greatness. I’m mad I am. Did you get a good pic? Oh oh get another one while I pose by this postbox. I’m that mad. I tell ya. Hmm

AJPTaylor · 12/04/2020 22:39

Me and dd12 walk to our park.
She spends half an hour doing her gym moves. Cartwheels/somersaults/dance that we do not have space for. I sit on a bench.
Judge me

Roussette · 12/04/2020 22:41

Oh, I love that close up of them ... I can see properly. They look young, vibrant and absolutely wonderful. Good on them.

I'd love to be able to do the Argentinian Tango, it's my favourite dance.

SarahAndQuack · 12/04/2020 22:41

I've just read the title but of course had to comment.

How absolutely lovely, and how nice of you to draw attention to people doing something so creative with the daily exercise the government recommends! I imagine it brought smiles to the faces of lots of people who went past. And, of course, lots of people don't have space to dance at home, so it's lovely they were able to go into an open space to exercise.

Right, off to read the full thread, secure in the knowledge it'll be 245 posts of cheerful celebration of sound good sense.

Candyflosscookie · 12/04/2020 22:44

YABVVVVVVVU

I'd have posted a few more Vs but I'll settle for just flicking them across the room at you OP.

Absolutely nothing wrong with them doing this, and everything wrong with you A: reading the Sun and B: coming on MN to froth and be a Joy Sucking Dementor - thank you to PP for this phrase!

Alsohuman · 12/04/2020 22:44

Can’t see the problem. If I’d seen them it would have made my day.

powershowerforanhour · 12/04/2020 22:45

"As I said, at the moment it could encourage others to do the same"

You could not, for all the PPE in China, induce me to do the same. But I think, good for them. To do the tango you have to be pretty much wrapped round each other. Thus taking up less space than if you were walking along side by side. And cramming more cardiovascular exercise into a shorter space of time than just walking. They were being socially responsible.
