To get up early on purpose

Donttellbut · 10/04/2020 06:39

Just that really.. aibu to get up early on purpose so I have a good hour to myself where I can drink my coffee I absolute silence and i know I'll get stung for this but also sit on my garden bench and have a cigarette it is the only one I have in a day everyone knows I have it (family friends but not DS) , otherwise it's not a secret

I just really love the silence of early morning as the birds wake up and watching the dog wildly sniff the garden inspecting it to see if anything has been in his territory through the night it's quite hilarious. Does anyone else do this...

No but you shouldn't feel ashamed for doing so. I would if I could x

BadgertheBodger · 10/04/2020 06:41

I’d say if you enjoy it carry on! I’m not a morning person at all but sadly 3yo DS feels differently so we’ve been up for an hour Brew

SpudsAreLife84 · 10/04/2020 06:43

I do this, my younger children get up for the day at 5 so I get up at 4am on weekdays to have an hour of peace, drink tea, watch the news etc before the chaos of kids/getting ready/work starts. I bloody love it! Smile

CeeceeBloomingdale · 10/04/2020 06:43

Not unreasonable, currently enjoying the best hour of the day. An uninterrupted cuppa tastes so much better.

Sennetti · 10/04/2020 06:43

I’m up for work and sat in my car drinking a coffee

Deliberately time it do I’m half an hour early to just chill a bit

Wejustdontknow · 10/04/2020 06:45

I am truly not a morning person so can’t ever imagine a scenario where I would choose to get up early just for some quiet time, I’m only up now as I am having to work nights in the current situation so just getting ready to go to bed but I understand others are morning people so my advice is do what makes you happy

userxx · 10/04/2020 06:46

You enjoy it. God I used to love a cigarette and coffee first thing in the morning.

ElloElloVera · 10/04/2020 06:46

Throughout quarantine, and often at weekends beforehand, I get up around 6-630 and enjoy peace before others get up about 8-9. It helps keep me sane and during quarantine has been even more essential for me to have this alone time.

Absolutely do it.

sunshineandshowers21 · 10/04/2020 06:47

i’ve been doing this lately as i just can’t seem to sleep at night. i normally get up at about 6.30 (after lying in bed awake for hours!), make myself a cuppa, and go and sit in the garden by the pond for half an hour. it’s lovely to just hear the trickle of the water and the birds singing.

olivehater · 10/04/2020 06:48

I wish I could. But my youngest is up at 6 and I can’t drag myself up any earlier than that. Eldest doesn’t go down till 9. Just feel like I get no down time at the moment.

SimonJT · 10/04/2020 06:48

Do it, I’m lounging on my balcony, cigarette on the go and some non-alcoholic beer, no one else in the flat will wake up until about 8:30. Bliss

Kay1341 · 10/04/2020 06:49

I go out at 5am to walk the dog and drink my coffee from a travel cup. DS wakes up at 6am so this way I get to enjoy some childfree time out in the quiet when no one else is about. The dog doesn't need to go that early, but I put the alarm for myself.

vampirethriller · 10/04/2020 06:55

Not at all. I get up before the baby so I can drink my tea and have a quiet read. Then we take the dog out before 7.30 when it's still clean and dewy. I love it.

chrispenrallt1 · 10/04/2020 07:03

How I wish I could. I’m currently wearing an orthopaedic boot as I have torn my Achilles’ tendon. I have a springer spaniel and we are usually up and away by 5 30 every morning.! Even in winter with a torch strapped to my head. This glorious weather and not being able to walk my boy is very sad for me. However time will pass and I will be able to do so again
Enjoy it, it’s the best part of the day.

Alfr · 10/04/2020 07:04

It's my favourite bit of the day! I get up at 5.30, just so that I can have an hour or two of peace and quiet. My son (22) sometimes gets up at 6ish, and it gives me the rage when he appears!

Egg · 10/04/2020 07:06

Yep i do it too. Sit with dogs, coffee and Mumsnet in peace. Easily my favourite part of the day before any of the other buggers in the house get up and spoil the quiet.

GreenLeafedLemon · 10/04/2020 07:06

I think you must be very bored to post this, just get out and have your freedom

HunterHearstHelmsley · 10/04/2020 07:06

YABU but only because I want a lie in but keep waking up early.

Mummyoflittledragon · 10/04/2020 07:10

I am usually an early riser and love it. Time alone. Not had this for the past few weeks. Have had moderate cv symptoms. Still weak and sleeping loads, also suffer from chronic fatigue.

CheshireDing · 10/04/2020 07:10

If you’re a morning person do it.

I get up at 6am to work the dog, we are just heading home now. So I get about 1 hour 25 mins just us up and out and quiet. It’s lovely, the only thing I do wish is that I lived by a beach.

I would love to be up that early alone with the dog.

majesticallyawkward · 10/04/2020 07:11

That sounds like heaven! The only reason I'm not doing similar is the baby permanently attached to me... literally, I've had to use the loo and shower with him. I'd love am early morning cigarette!

userxx · 10/04/2020 07:11

cigarette on the go and some non-alcoholic beer

Different 😎

Normalmumandwife · 10/04/2020 07:11

I do similar, minus the fag!

AmelieTaylor · 10/04/2020 07:12

Getting up is fine
Sitting outside is fine
Coffee is fine

Smoking, if you have neighbours, is bloody anti social. Fortunately I'm awake before my neighbour the vast majority of the time, but if I'm not her 'first fag' waking me up is vile.🤮 I tolerate it the rest of the time, even though she stands away from her back door and near mine 🙇🏻‍♀️ But that first one coming into my bedroom window really makes me feel sick.

Trooperslaneagain · 10/04/2020 07:14

I get up early every single day for this same reason - an hour to myself and then when DD is up, chaos begins.
