To get up early on purpose

Just that really.. aibu to get up early on purpose so I have a good hour to myself where I can drink my coffee I absolute silence and i know I'll get stung for this but also sit on my garden bench and have a cigarette it is the only one I have in a day everyone knows I have it (family friends but not DS) , otherwise it's not a secret

I just really love the silence of early morning as the birds wake up and watching the dog wildly sniff the garden inspecting it to see if anything has been in his territory through the night it's quite hilarious. Does anyone else do this...

I've been doing the same during lockdown. Wake at 6, do a workout, shower and then have my coffee in peace. Sometimes my girls dont appear until 830 so it's a whole 2.5hrs of peace before mummy mode begins. I do have to tiptoe about and be v quiet myself so I dont wake them Grin

One cigarette a day? What’s the point? You could easily give up altogether.
Getting up early? What’s the point? You could have extra time in bed.

ThighThighofthigh · 10/04/2020 08:00

It's my favourite time of the day, I even sit outside with a coffee in the dead of winter. I hate it if someone else gets up early and joins me.

daisychain01 · 10/04/2020 08:00

I have no choice but to get up early @Donttellbut the bloody birds are a right pain atm, I do wish they could turn the volume down just a tiny bit Grin

Enjoy your happy hour first thing, sets you up for the day as FIL would say.

speakout · 10/04/2020 08:04

I have been doing this for years OP.

Coffee, yoga, hang laundry, check emails- best time of the day.

Hassled · 10/04/2020 08:07

I love the time to myself in the mornings - whether pottering round the kitchen or sat on the sofa reading shit off the internet. It's even more valuable now people are home all day everyday - I have it easy in that there are no young children to entertain, but instead I have young adults with strident opinions and complicated messy lunches back home, and 7am feels like the most peaceful time of the day.

MurrayTheMonk · 10/04/2020 08:12

I've done this most mornings since my kids were about 7 (now youngest is 14).
I was just used to it because until they were about that age they were both early risers-between 5 and if we were very lucky, 6 every love long day.
I wake up at that time still as it was programmed into me so now I get up and have a quite cup of tea and if it's nice in summer I sit in the garden whilst the Dogs potter about and it's the best hour of my day. I sue the time to do my thinking and planning for the day and it's a nice bit of calm before herding teens to get to school and then work.

TokyoSushi · 10/04/2020 08:15

I do this but at the other end of the day, so stay up an hour after everybody else - bliss!

I am not a morning person at all!

AvalancheKit · 10/04/2020 08:16

Yes, I do this. In fact I creep out before the dog is up. It is very peaceful on my hands and knees crawling round the garden sniffing the gatepost, flowers, shrubs and grass patches. No slobbering dog bouncing on top of me at 6am.

MaggieAndHopey · 10/04/2020 08:17

I'm a bit worried that anyone would think that making a bit of time for themselves in the morning might genuinely be unreasonable behaviour.

MaggieAndHopey · 10/04/2020 08:18

(as for me: I am absolutely a morning person. Best time of the day. Peaceful, birdsong, morning light, that fresh green smell... what's not to love)

When the world is normal I get up at 5 and go to the stables. There is nothing like a hack on a summers morning to put the world to rights

mooboy · 10/04/2020 08:19

I used to do this - my coffee time was sacred, it really annoyed me if I was interrupted.

SoupDragon · 10/04/2020 08:20

The bonus of having only teen/adult children is that I generally have until 11am in peace :)

FromTheAllotment · 10/04/2020 08:21

Ah, I used to do that at uni. I bloody miss smoking.
Now I daren’t get up early and make a coffee because I would wake DS. Sad

ColdTapwater · 10/04/2020 08:22

Go for it OP! I have often set my often during lockdown to have that peaceful Hour before the World wakes up. Also, enjoy your cigarette too! 5 Years since I gave up and I miss it everyday!

ColdTapwater · 10/04/2020 08:22

*Alarm

SpeckledyHen · 10/04/2020 08:23

Do it minus the cigarette.
Unless your DS has no sense of smell he will know you are doing it .

PurpleFlower1983 · 10/04/2020 08:23

I do this sometimes and I love it! Smile

Spacecudet · 10/04/2020 08:23

When I'm at work I get up 2 hours before the kids. Leisurely shower, cup of tea and TV to myself then breakfast. Love that time to myself.

PurpleFlower1983 · 10/04/2020 08:23

Minus the cigarette.

HemlockStarglimmer · 10/04/2020 08:26

I've done this for years. I love early mornings and time alone.

Currently I have about an hour with my teenager when I get up as she is on school holiday and has become nocturnal. She makes me breakfast.

Then she goes to bed and I have some alone time until my husband gets up. He also makes me breakfast 😁

Macncheeseballs · 10/04/2020 08:28

Having a fag in the garden first thing kinda negates the point of being in nature as the day begins

User202004 · 10/04/2020 08:28

Why would you feel bad for that? I'm not a morning person so always the last up, but I will send the kids to their rooms to read for a bit before bedtime to get some time to myself 🤷‍♀️
