Is it just every week we are in lockdown or is that it forever and we have become a nation of clappers? Do I need to move?

I'd prefer it if people gave a shit about the NHS when we're NOT in the middle of a crisis. The whole clapping thing is just hypocritical

FedupwithCFs · 09/04/2020 21:27

The saucepan banging and shouting woke my 1 year old up here. And it's ridiculous on a terrace with everyone standing on their front steps less than 2m apart

Funnily enough, it’s not all about you and your 1 year old.

15 mins after I put my DD to bed... fuck off!

Funnily enough it’s not aLl about you either!

Shame on you with your probably costly NHS births, general care etc with us appreciation of health workers being such an inconvenience to you. Let’s hope your kids never have to live through this themselves when they are actually to be aware of it either.

Dreamersandwishers · 09/04/2020 21:27

Didn’t expect to like it ; didn’t think my street would be big on it ; but they are and I do. It’s good to see people and we share a laugh as we say good night afterwards.

Doryhunky · 09/04/2020 21:28

Earlier would be better

MadameTuffington · 09/04/2020 21:28

@kayleesmithy Hear hear! What a bunch of miserable, whining gits on this thread - it’s a small but mostly massively appreciated gesture of thanks for ICU staff, first responders, carers and a whole bunch of other workers who are often unappreciated who are working bl&&dy hard to keep everyone going - it’s a positive thing for everyone - nuff sed

BagpussAteMyHomework · 09/04/2020 21:30

I like it. It reminds me that behind every front door there is another person or people who are going through almost the same experience as we are.

Ludo19 · 09/04/2020 21:30

Ok on Monday we could clap for the HGV drivers.
Tuesday the funeral directors
Wednesday the vets and their staff
Friday all the retail staff.

Sorry but when will it fuckin end! I work in a vets granted it's not the NHS but I'm shocked at how it's the norm to shame people into going outside to clap....each to their own but I don't bow to peer pressure!

BirdandSparrow · 09/04/2020 21:30

@Levatrice, pretty much no Spanish kids are in bed at 8 pm. They join in the clapping.

Iwalkinmyclothing · 09/04/2020 21:30

I'm not joining in, fine if other people get something out of it. As long as they don't expect everyone to agree with them.

LaProfesora · 09/04/2020 21:31

@emmetgirl
Absolutely. Couldn't agree with you more.

BillMasen · 09/04/2020 21:32

It’s interesting that MN has a fair sized group of conservative voters who can be quite vocal on political threads. Nothing wrong with that.

However I wonder if there is anyone who is prepared to say they are both a Conservative voter and a clapper. There must be millions out there.

Anyone prepared to explain how they reconcile the two

Clymene · 09/04/2020 21:32

But the staff really appreciate it @emmetgirl. They're all out on the street clapping each other. Right now, most of them don't give a shit how you voted, they just need a bit of a morale boost to keep going.

Not hard is if?

Every single person in my street were out. We were banging pots and pans. People are turning up to work every day knowing full well they may contract the virus and die. It’s a small gesture really. People need to feel the love right now.

RedRedScab · 09/04/2020 21:34

We had the Star Wars theme tonight (possibly played on a clarinet) and pots being banged together, as well as so much clapping the birds didn't know what to do with themselves.

The first time it was quite moving, but this time it didn't feel so good. What about shift-workers and kids who go to bed at 7? What about the frazzled parents who need a bit of grown-up time?

Think I'll make a donation instead next week.

Sirzy · 09/04/2020 21:34

Nothing hypocritical here. I appreciate and thank the NHS constantly.

Sereyus · 09/04/2020 21:35

It's driving me insane too!! Bunch of happy clappy twats making the dog bark and waking the baby up and then gloating about how much more superior they are to others.

Fireworks, cheering, screaming, banging pans, beeping car horns and everything here!

It isn't anything to do with appreciating the NHS anymore, it's just keeping up appearances. Who can be the best at social isolation and making the most noise to prove they're thankful.

welldonejean · 09/04/2020 21:35

A few minutes once a week, suck it up buttercup!

Thripp · 09/04/2020 21:36

Lib Dem, and not a clapper. No clappers where I live.

Ilovemypantry · 09/04/2020 21:37

My DH and I actually forgot to clap tonight...we were busy watching the clapping on TV and forgot to go outside to clap!

BeansOnToast4T · 09/04/2020 21:37

My nurse friend is having to sit with dying covid patients who can't have family members with them. The clapping helps her feel appreciated and supported then waking a few kids up is a price worth paying.

sniggy01 · 09/04/2020 21:38

I am speechless at just how miserable everyone on here is - people are clapping and showing their appreciation in the only we can right now.

Lunaballoon · 09/04/2020 21:38

If people really want to show appreciation of NHS workers, please follow government guidance and stay indoors. No gatherings, no hanging out in the park, no behaving like the virus won’t affect you. My daughter is a nurse and I’m really scared for her 😟

MoreThan40 · 09/04/2020 21:39

Clymene

The NHS staff I know, mostly nurses, think the clapping is a load of shite. And they all hate the Tory wankers. They’ve made their jobs harder and more dangerous. They absolutely give a shit how people voted.

herecomesthsun · 09/04/2020 21:39

So this is a way that people can be in a position to help with PPE
