Is it just every week we are in lockdown or is that it forever and we have become a nation of clappers? Do I need to move?

Ah I don't actually see the harm. In horrible times like this it actually gives me a heartwarming feeling for the solidarity towards those that are doing an amazing job!! They deserve every second of it.

Fedup2020 · 09/04/2020 20:09

I thought I’d hate it, but I like it.

ClientQ · 09/04/2020 20:09

Loads of noise here. My cat was ambling back from his stroll and very confused as it looked like everyone was applauding him Grin which made me laugh

Onceuponatimethen · 09/04/2020 20:09

Loathe it - has stopped my very anxious 8 year old dd from sleeping

cherryblossomgin · 09/04/2020 20:10

Banging pots and pans where I am. I was confused when I heard it...

worriedmum20 · 09/04/2020 20:10

Fireworks, clapping and saucepans here. I understand but it wakes up my six year old...

Mandraki · 09/04/2020 20:10

The first time was nice but now its just silly. I'm not clapping every week.

Biscusting · 09/04/2020 20:10

Just let all the simple people do the bangy bangy clap clap.

orangejuicer · 09/04/2020 20:10

It's just so pointless.

I'm not sure if there was clapping in our road tonight, but someone nearby let off a couple of fireworks.

There were quite a few fireworks last night though, so I wonder if some clappy fucker got the day wrong.

cherryblossomgin · 09/04/2020 20:11

@clientQ He probably thinks everyone has went mad.

Ghostlyglow · 09/04/2020 20:11

I wish it would stop. I work for the NHS. They've treated me like shit this past fortnight Sad

geojojo · 09/04/2020 20:11

I found it really powerful and emotional the first Thursday with the simple clapping. I don't know why but today it felt weird - loads of fireworks, pans banging, cars beeping, maybe it's because it woke both my children up though?!

GlummyMcGlummerson · 09/04/2020 20:11

Ridiculous.

And half of them are hypocrites. DSis is giving it the all on Facebook about how people should ALL be clapping for the NHS and support our frontline workers. Feel like pointing out that she spent her kid's childhoods going to A&E over twisted ankles, called an ambulance when she slightly cut her hand on a vegetable peeler, refused to do physio after a knee injury resulting in expensive surgery, spent most of her adult life getting prescriptions for paracetamol, even worked for the NHS in a back office role for 10 years and got the sack eventually because 4 of those 10 years were spent on the sick. Best way to support the NHS is to stay at home and, after this all dies down, stop taking the piss

1Morewineplease · 09/04/2020 20:12

It was very interesting to hear a doctor from Bristol Royal Infirmary, a couple of days ago on the news, saying that, while he and his staff were very flattered and felt moved by the clapping, they would rather prefer that people thanked the NHS by staying indoors.

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 09/04/2020 20:12

Let 'em clap.

It keeps them off the streets.

Nearlyalmost50 · 09/04/2020 20:12

It's 2 minutes, really not a big deal. Just ignore it or turn the telly up!

I enjoyed clapping!

Bottletopsx · 09/04/2020 20:13

No point in me doing it as no one will hear me. I live in the middle of nowhere.

BendingSpoons · 09/04/2020 20:13

This NHS worker here is glad the clapping in our street is just a few people standing outside clapping quietly and waving. I need my children to sleep!

CheriLittlebottom · 09/04/2020 20:13

But it's not solidarity, is it. It's just a load of random noise.

It's like praying for victims of natural disasters. The person praying feels like they've done something useful, the person living in the rubble of an earthquake hit village is no better off.

Solidarity would be giving cash now, and pushing your local MP for better NHS funding all the rest of the year.

muddledmidget · 09/04/2020 20:14

We've just had it on our street, was lovely to see everyone and then we all sang happy birthday to a widowed man who turned 80 today but obviously couldn't see any of his family. Was amazing to see his reaction

WhatWouldYouDoWhatWouldJesusDo · 09/04/2020 20:14

Ships hooters and fireworks here too.

It's a bloody Tory majority town as well and they're all out there clapping like moronic, pissed up seals. 🙄

Mmsnet101 · 09/04/2020 20:15

Fireworks, bagpipes, pots and pans and clapping here. A neighbour even knocked our door to remind us what was going on (as if we didn't know), sending the dog into overdrive and meaning the baby won't settle back down for ages Angry

Eggcited · 09/04/2020 20:15

they would rather prefer that people thanked the NHS by staying indoors.

Indeed. It's turned into social situation. people are wandering up and down the streets, nattering to the neighbours, and making an awful racket whilst doing so.
