How much milk?

Does a normal person get through in a week?

I know my consumption is unusually low. Until I discovered filtered milk, I would rarely get through a pint before it went off. Now a pint generally lasts me 7-10 days.

I am doing shopping for my parents at the moment. On Friday I got them, as asked, 4 pints of milk. Which I assumed would last a week (we'd agreed that I wouldn't go again until this coming weekend).

Today they rang to say they'd run out and would I go and get them 8 more pints! And also a prescription and medical things, so fine, it was an essential journey.

But 12 pints of milk for two people for a week seems, well, a LOT to me.

What's a normal amount for someone who isn't a child/teenager, who has tea and coffee and a bowl of cereal most days?

I got them what they asked for, obviously. I'm not rationing their supplies. I am just boggled by how much they seem to need.

When in work, I buy 2 pints to do my cereal (4 bowls a week) and a couple of cups of strong tea a day.

I probably have another pint at home for tea at the weekend etc.

As a family of 4, we get through about it 12-14 pints a week. My DC love cereal though!

SmileEachDay · 07/04/2020 18:47

Do they drink milky coffee 🤢
Eat porridge?
Custard?

Drink warm milk 🤢

They are milky FIENDS OP and you should not be enabling it.

(DC and I get though about 6/ 7pints a week when we’re both home all the time)

delilahbucket · 07/04/2020 18:47

As a family of three we get through 8-12 pints a week depending on what breakfast people are having and what I'm cooking. We're using more at the moment with dp and ds at home all day and having warm drinks.
I honestly couldn't bring myself to care so much about someone else's milk consumption that I had to start a thread about it.

ErrolTheDragon · 07/04/2020 18:49

The old advert exhorted us all to drink a pinta milka day.

On which basis 6 pints each is somewhat modest.

speakout · 07/04/2020 18:50

We are a family of 5- we use around 3-4 litres a week
I think that is around 5 pints in 7 days for 5 people.

dementedpixie · 07/04/2020 18:51

I have milk in tea and ds has milk in cereal. Noone else uses milk in the house so milk lasts for ages here.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 07/04/2020 18:51

My mil loves alone and does 8 pints a week, but she does drink tea like it’s going out of fashion and has porridge every morning.

In my house (2 adults, 3 dc under 5) we use 4 pints a week as it’s only for mine and DH hot drinks. My dc won’t drink milk and they don’t like it on cereal (they like to eat it dry- little weirdos) but they will eat yogurt/cheese

raspberryk · 07/04/2020 18:52

We are a family of 4 and are using about 12 pints of milk per week while we are all home, although we use quite a bit normally as dp has a pint in a shake before work, he's not having that at them moment and the kids aren't having as much as we are trying to be careful. I drink coffee black too.

RedElephants · 07/04/2020 18:53

They are milky FIENDS OP and you should not be enabling it. Hmm really?
Not really sure what it's got to do with anyone, how much milk they drink tbh..??

DailyKegelReminder · 07/04/2020 18:53

3 regular tea drinkers here and toddler who loves milk. We get through around 10 pints. Now everyone is home it could easily be 12/14.

StCharlotte · 07/04/2020 18:54

2 adults both working out of the house 5 days a week. Normally we have 8 pints a week delivered but as I'm now wfh and DH is furloughed we've upped it to 11. Still have to top up sometimes at the weekend. Lots of wartime comfort tea drinking going on here!

speakout · 07/04/2020 18:54

Milk is not an essential part of the diet past babyhood.
Many societies drink none.
THe nutrients can be sourced eleswhere.

My kids have never drunk any milk, yogurt, cheese, dairy or butter. No formula.

DS is 6'3", DD is 5'10", not a tooth filling between them.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 07/04/2020 18:56

Not sure anyone said it was essential to ones diet, some people just like milk 🤷🏻‍♀️

StCharlotte · 07/04/2020 18:57

I'll take that as zero then.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 07/04/2020 18:58

I'm on my own and drink a pint of skimmed a day.

katmarie · 07/04/2020 19:01

We get through about 4 pints a day here, I have porridge for breakfast, ds and dh love to drink milk, they get through a lot, easily a pint each or more a day, and we have it in tea and coffee too, I also sometimes put it in sauces, mash potato etc.

flooredbored · 07/04/2020 19:02

4 adults and 2 kids. We use 4 pints a day!

rottiemum88 · 07/04/2020 19:03

Family of 3 and we get through 16 pints in an average week. DH eats a lot of cereal (breakfast and snacks), plus he makes his own kefir which uses quite a bit

GreenTulips · 07/04/2020 19:03

5 of us 4 pints a day is not more sometimes if there’s a run on milkshakes

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 07/04/2020 19:03

4 of is. 6-8 pints at home, plus DH takes 1-2 pints to work for teas.

TeaAndBisquits · 07/04/2020 19:03

Family of four and we get through 8-12 a week.

Used for tea, coffee, cereal, cheese sauce etc etc

MorganKitten · 07/04/2020 19:03

I drink at least pint a day, in a protein shake and I drink a pint as it helps my skin condition

CottonSock · 07/04/2020 19:04
