Cat hating neighbour

Igrewitmyself · 07/04/2020 10:20

My neighbour has told me he is setting a trap in his garden where he will catch any cats who deign to go into his garden in a net and then plunge them into a barrel of water where they will have to stay until he releases them
As if there isn't enough to worry about at the moment...... If I report him, will the RSPCA come out or will I have to wait until he actually hurts a cat before they can do something..

A cat has an owner
Wildlife don't have owners.
There I have solved it.

SwerfandTurf · 08/04/2020 12:12

The “gentle soul” was probably pushed to her limits anyway. If she hadn’t snapped and killed the cat she might have snapped and killed her son.

Only deeply sick people murder living creatures.

Fluffybutter · 08/04/2020 12:50

@MrMeeseekscando gentle soul ? Yeah sounds it !
What a nasty piece of work .
I wouldn’t say I’m a “gentle soul” at all but I could never drown another living thing no matter how small and no matter how far I was pushed .
There were so many other things she could’ve done instead of resorting to that .
That’s fucked up

Fluffybutter · 08/04/2020 12:52

@fiftyval it’s does not .
They say only to keep them in if you or any of your family have symptoms .

fiftyval · 08/04/2020 14:43

That's interesting Fluffybutter as it is very inconsistent with the advice to dog owners which is to not let anyone else touch your dog because of transfer risk regardless of whethet you have symptoms.

Fluffybutter · 08/04/2020 16:02

Isn’t everything inconsistent at the moment ? 😆
This was info from the BVA just posted today.
No one could get close enough to touch my cats anyway as they disappear up their own bum if a stranger even looks at them

LexMitior · 08/04/2020 16:35

I’m sorry about your neighbour. He would not have any right to either trap or dowse your cat in water. That would be animal cruelty and a criminal offence.

There is a way to deal with people like this and you must;

Take his nasty little threat, write it down, and send it to him in the post. Just make it nice and factual as to what he actually said. Report it to the police.

Never mind Mumsnet. Most people are naturally repulsed by cruelty to living things, and those that aren’t are unusual. I refer you to the lady who shut a cat in a bin and was both interviewed by the police and literally eviscerated in the press.

Your neighbour just reckons you will tell no one. Make him wrong.

ShadowLightning · 08/04/2020 20:06

I’m always intrigued how owners are expected to keep cats in their own garden? How do you do that? They are crafty little fuckers and pretty good at doing what they do best - roaming their territory. How do you stop that?

DeeCeeCherry · 08/04/2020 20:12

Why can't he use a deterrent? I guess because he is a stupid troublemaker who wants to upset neighbours. He's more harmful than cats🙄.

Report on 101 and tell the RSPCA too. Then escape proof your garden and keep your cat safe due to this abnormal man. Bet he still finds a way to complain about your cat though.

An ex-neighbour (dead now) always threatened to shoot neighbours' cats with a pellet gun. All female neighbours of course, he'd nothing to say if there was a man around. Just wondered if yours might have similar attitude

lifestooshort123 · 08/04/2020 20:15

I thought from the title that your cat hated your neighbour and wondered how you knew...

LexMitior · 08/04/2020 20:21

Of course this is motivated by nastiness; a threat is a threat. Agree it’s unlikely he would have said to a man. Just get nasty people like this on the record with their crap. They never like it, and their unreasonableness is plain.

Animal cruelty is a sign that someone is morally odd - a few studies show psychopaths hurt animals and then progress to people. Don’t ignore people like this, they are troubled and if they actively say stuff like to you that is actually significant.

People do all sorts of grim things to dogs and cats. You don’t want to associate with people who suggest it or threaten it.

katseyes7 · 08/04/2020 20:33

My best friend has three cats. She doesn't have a litter tray because she says "they like to go out."
l don't know if it's actually occurred to her that they're doing their business in other people's gardens. They certainly don't do it in hers.
l get a lot of cats in my garden. l wouldn't hurt one, but l chase them. They come on the decking, look through the French doors, and scare my house rabbits.
One cat actually does it's business on the gravel at the side of the house and doesn't bury it. lt's like a minefield going out to put the bin out in winter when it's dark early.

SilverBangle · 08/04/2020 20:47

Omg @SilverBangle you've obviously never owned a cat before!!

Nope and I have no desire to. I can’t see the point in bringing an animal into the neighbourhood, throw it out, piss the neighbours off, stop children playing in their gardens because of cat shit.... and take no responsibility for it. You?

CabbagePatches · 08/04/2020 22:08

I don't think SilverBangles is an animal lover sadly. Some people aren't. And some people just don't 'get' cats, which is their loss.

😂😂😂😂

SilverBangle doesn’t really care what you think. SilverBangle knows how many animals she has helped over the years. SilverBangle has no time for people who get an animal and wont take responsibility for it!

CabbagePatches · 08/04/2020 22:20

Right. Yeah you sound like a real animal lover on this thread Hmm

ShadowLightning · 08/04/2020 23:32

Yes, but what are YOU suggesting people do to keep a cat in? You can’t cage it. They can have major (fatal) stress issues if you keep them in. They don’t appreciate going for a walk on a lead. And they are incredibly slinky and fantastic jumpers so can usually get out even if you do ‘cat proof’. What’s the answer? Do tell!

Thelnebriati · 08/04/2020 23:42

You cat proof your fence or build an aviary.

DeeCeeCherry · 08/04/2020 23:44

What do cat haters do when foxes shit in their garden? You must be pearl clutching till your eyes pop. Animals do what they do. I guess because some cats have an owner your real aim is to stress your neighbours out. Put some deterrent down then get a life, cats don't have to be caged to suit you.

Summersun77 · 08/04/2020 23:50

@MrMeeseekscando your neighbour sounds like an absolute sick and twisted weirdo and it’s worrying that you’re condoning her behaviour.

Maudiejames · 09/04/2020 00:05

When I had a cat (lived in London then) I was terrified of letting her out the front for fear she would disappear/get run over/catnapped that I only let her out in my garden and made sure there weren’t any holes that she could escape through to next doors and kept a litter box inside for her. Thankfully she didn’t seem bothered.

NaturalBornWoman · 09/04/2020 15:53

See this is it in a nutshell. Animals do what they do so get over it. Wild animals do, but you choose to own a pet. And if that pet is a cat, you also choose to shrug off the fact that it’s probably causing a nuisance to someone else who hasn’t chosen to own it. I don’t hate cats but a lot of owners are utter arseholes. I don’t want to clean up your cats shit and I don’t want your cat killing wildlife in my garden. I don’t think that’s in any way unreasonable but cat owners apparently have the right to choose to own the cat and then the right to let it roam where it’s not wanted. You should be made to keep them on your own land.

MrMeeseekscando · 09/04/2020 15:56

@Summersun77 go back and read it again.
I actually stated I was horrified.
I'm pretty sure the people minimising the upset and damage their pets cause are exhibiting worrying behaviour.
How can you be so blind to it?
People are stating how upsetting it can be and are being labelled as animal haters or deluded.
The fox poo comparison has been done to death too. It's not foxes.
Then there's the patronizing "You just dont get cats because you're emotionally stunted" brigade.
I've owned cats. I took responsibility for them and didn't allow them to shit on other people's property.
Why can't you?

Summersun77 · 09/04/2020 18:12

You’re assuming I have cats/let’s them shot in peoples gardens??
You’re justifying your neighbours psychotic behaviour by saying she “snapped”. Normal people don’t snap and murder animalsConfused very worrying that you think this is normal

MrMeeseekscando · 09/04/2020 18:50

I torture animals and boot little old ladies for kicks don't you know?
Wink

Apologies, only the first sentence was addressing you. That's the thing about text, it's open to interpretation.

I'll repeat what I said.
I was horrified.
