Cat hating neighbour

Igrewitmyself · 07/04/2020 10:20

My neighbour has told me he is setting a trap in his garden where he will catch any cats who deign to go into his garden in a net and then plunge them into a barrel of water where they will have to stay until he releases them
As if there isn't enough to worry about at the moment...... If I report him, will the RSPCA come out or will I have to wait until he actually hurts a cat before they can do something..

OP posts:
Zaphodsotherhead · 07/04/2020 11:25

I wouldn't worry too much.

Have you ever tried to catch a cat to give it a worming tablet or take it to the vet? Cats are pretty clever, and your neighbour doesn't exactly sound like he's in the running for Brain of Britain.

fuckinghellthisshit · 07/04/2020 11:25

It's a very serious threat, perhaps emboldened by thinking the police are too busy. Call the RSPCA and inform them, they will advise if the Police should be called or if they should intervene.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 07/04/2020 11:27

He's a bastard and I hope karma gets him full-frontal.

BTW OP - this is bound to bring out the cat haters.

Thisismytimetoshine · 07/04/2020 11:27

It's very easy to prevent cats getting out of your garden, actually. Just attach around two feet of netting or chicken wire horizontally to the top of your fence, so that when they climb the fence there's a barrier in their way and they just drop back down again.
Doesn't look particularly pretty; but your choice to have a cat... 🤷🏻‍♀️
I think all cat owners should be forced to contain their pets, tbh.
My neighbours spend more time in my garden than theirs. If I wanted a cat I'd get my own, I certainly don't want somebody else's.

CliveyBaby · 07/04/2020 11:29

We have a netting system (homemade version of protectapet) and it works brilliantly - 1 year up and our two haven't got our (and have given up trying).
I actually accidentally "caught" another cat who must have jumped into the garden then couldn't get out. (dw I let him out).

TheStarryNight · 07/04/2020 11:31

Call the police.

Fluffybutter · 07/04/2020 11:33

Hmm.. is this true ? Sounds very much like a comment made on a cat hating thread yesterday

DrManhattan · 07/04/2020 11:34

He sounds nuts but not everyone wants cat $hit in their garden.

SilverBangle · 07/04/2020 11:37

It is virtually impossible to cat proof a garden

Rubbish! People who care about their cats cat proof their gardens. Many do.

Not everyone brings a cat into the neighbourhood and expects the neighbours to deal with it.

izzywizzygood · 07/04/2020 11:41

Really, who wants someone else's cat in their garden killing wildlife and defecating everywhere? No-one. Sort your cat out.

izzywizzygood · 07/04/2020 11:42

And why should you expect anyone to fork out to cat proof their garden? He's doing the cheaper way - why should he pay?

YetAnotherSpartacus · 07/04/2020 11:46

Really, who wants someone else's cat in their garden

MEEEEEEEE!!!!! I'll take them all!!!!

MrMeeseekscando · 07/04/2020 11:49

It's just words.
If you're that worried keep the crapping machine indoors.

Escrima · 07/04/2020 11:50

Oh good another cat thread. Cue the "all cat owners should keep them indoors!" brigade.

Or my personal favourite: "I have to keep my dog on a lead, so why can cats just roam freely?" 🙄

SilverBangle · 07/04/2020 11:58

Dogs don’t crap in neighbours gardens. Cats can roam freely - in their own garden. Same as dogs.

Why get a pet and throw it out to be a nuisance to everyone else? Want a cat? Great! Keep it in your own space and look after it yourself

No, dogs just crap all over public pathways, parks, etc instead.

Cats have the right to roam. Cats are generally clean creatures and bury their poo (I know there are exceptions).

Outdoor cats are generally (again, exceptions, I know) healthier than indoor cats - more active, less sedentary, less stressed, etc.

Cats have to be allowed the space to exhibit their natural behaviour patterns (www.cats.org.uk/help-and-advice/getting-a-cat/cats-and-the-law).

I do look after my pets myself - I feed, flea, worm and vaccinate them; I have a litter tray; I keep them in at night; I provide an area of my garden for them to poo in. But mad neighbours who can't accept that cats have the right to go where they want will not stop me letting them go outside.

1984isnow · 07/04/2020 12:08

The same posters telling you to 'just cat proof' would probably be the ones to berate you for buying non essential items to be able to do the work.

mumieone · 07/04/2020 12:14

Lasttraineast...you said the dig owner said there was nothing they could do to stop Thier dog jumping all over you?

What a load of nonsense. There is a leash, there is training your dog, there is being aware of your surroundings. So if the dog just jumps at a newborn in a pram and bites it is that ok because they are just selfish and think about thier dogs pleasure over anyone else? What a weak excuse.

Kids like to run around too, draw on walls and who knows what. Do we just always say...I can't help what my child does? NO! We are responsible for our pets and Thier behaviour as much as we are over our kids.

SilverBangle · 07/04/2020 12:20

Responsible dog owners pick it up. I’d put those that don’t in the same category as cat owners. Those that get a pet and expect everyone else to be responsible for it!

Escrima · 07/04/2020 12:24

How does letting my cat out equate to expecting anyone else to be responsible for it?

SilverBangle · 07/04/2020 12:30

Escrima because your cat is left to crap in everyone else’s garden. Hence why neighbours are pissed off....FB is full of posts about cats gone missing. Nobody cares. If you let your pet out into the big wide world you can expect it to get run over, locked in sheds or...whatever!

You want a pet. Look after it. Your cat - your problem. Nobody wants to pick up other people’s cat shit!

LockedInMadness · 07/04/2020 12:36

fully prepared to smash his bloody windows in if necessary

I'd smash his bloody face in while I was at it 🤬

Escrima · 07/04/2020 12:38

Hi @SilverBangle see previous comments re. cats generally burying their poo (no picking up needed), also having a litter tray and an area of my own garden for them to use. Again, I do look after them (as above). Are you this angry about fox poo, or bird poo? 🤣

mumieone · 07/04/2020 12:44

Silverbangle....well said.

Your pet..your problem.

Trespassing not really wanted by everyone. We are not all forced to like your pets shit in our gardens. I like to walk barefoot in mine and not have to pick up your cat's poo.

I would not be happy. That's your responsibility to toilet it.

If you live in a flat folk and know the cat needs to run out to expell its contents somewhere where you know you are not going to be able to pick it up from EVER ...do you think maybe you do not quiet have the right environment for that poor creature?

Aloe6 · 07/04/2020 12:48

Call the police. The RSPCA have no legal powers.
