Cat hating neighbour

Igrewitmyself · 07/04/2020 10:20

My neighbour has told me he is setting a trap in his garden where he will catch any cats who deign to go into his garden in a net and then plunge them into a barrel of water where they will have to stay until he releases them
As if there isn't enough to worry about at the moment...... If I report him, will the RSPCA come out or will I have to wait until he actually hurts a cat before they can do something..

It’s not the cat I have issue with it’s the irresponsible owners. I have chased away teenagers tormenting a cat. I’m not an evil person, just one who wants to enjoy my garden and keep my children safe.

Escrima · 07/04/2020 14:15

Bloody hell, I love how everyone is piling on me and yet completely ignoring what I'm saying regarding being responsible, and also being willing to compromise with neighbours if they told me there was an issue.

I can't keep track of individual names I'm responding to but:

• I am not a dickhead nor making dickhead comments. I'm simply disagreeing with you.

• I am not denying any issue; I've said repeatedly that I take steps to make sure my cats don't cause an issue for other people.

• Someone said cats don't shit in their own gardens. Mine do. I've seen them and I also regularly clean up the area I provide for them. If someone told me my cats were shitting in their garden and it was becoming a problem, we would talk about it and try to resolve it.

• Someone said my cats "are in someone's garden" - yes, mine. I can see them. They also spend most of their time inside. Why do you presume to know what my cats are doing better than I do?

• Someone said something about cats not being comparable to birds and foxes, etc. But in terms of the effects, they are. Birds destroy vegetable patches and poo in gardens. But there's nobody to blame, so homeowners presumably just protect their vegetable patches and clean the poo up. It's part of having and maintaining an outdoor space. I will obviously continue to take reasonable steps to ensure my cats aren't shitting in other gardens, but some tolerance would still not go amiss.

screwcovid19 · 07/04/2020 14:21

TAAT Hmm

Keeva2017 · 07/04/2020 14:22

Escrima - the response has been because people are telling you, and cat owners like you, that your refusal to keep your pets in your garden is making them actually quite miserable in some cases. That On top of some sarcastic replies from you it comes across like your general attitude is tough shit.

Comparing cats to wild animals is a cheap cop out and people have have explained why it’s different but you choose to ignore it.

Escrima · 07/04/2020 14:27

@Keeva2017 I fail to see how I'm being sarcastic? I'm explaining myself and my actions. "Some cases" is the key phrase - I'm not contributing to that. I'm doing everything I reasonably can to make sure I'm not making my neighbours miserable. I'm saying that not all cat owners are irresponsible as has been claimed, and cats shouldn't be unilaterally banned from going outdoors, as has also been suggested. I don't agree that comparing to wild animals is a cop out but regardless, I haven't ignored the points made about the difference, I've addressed it above.

Yesmate · 07/04/2020 14:31

I don’t agree with the traps but cats are fucking annoying. I wish they were only allowed inside. I cannot let my DC in the garden before I have checked and removed cat shit. I don’t have a cat. I hate cat shit.

fiftyval · 07/04/2020 14:51

Whilst not wanting to totally derail the thread, might not cats need to be kept in to prevent spread of corona virus. Dog owners have been told not to let dogs off lead on walks in case someone touches them as the virus can sit on their coats and potentially be transferred. Must surely also apply to cats.

DrManhattan · 07/04/2020 15:01

I think the personal attacks on people just because they dont like cat $hit are a bit out of order.

EatShitBoswell · 07/04/2020 15:15

If you keep your cat in your own house/garden he won’t be caught and plunged into a barrel of water. It’s a no brainier really 🤔

Well no it's not really that simple @SilverBangle is it. The OP has can do that as she knows what the sick fucker is planning but there will be other people around who won't know and therefore plenty of innocent cats could end up suffering at his vile hands.

miccymaccy · 07/04/2020 15:46

Report - animal cruelty is a sign of being a psychopath

loutypips · 07/04/2020 15:50

Stop the cat from going in his garden then. He's probably just threatened it as he's fed up with all the poxy cat shit.

SeasonallySnowyPeasant · 07/04/2020 15:51

He sounds like a nutter. Are you doing everything you can to stop your cat using his garden as a toilet?

Nonnymum · 07/04/2020 15:52

I'm not justifying that behaviour of course. It's cruel and heartless and he sounnds mad.
.But I do get annoyed by people who think cats have a right to roam and poo everywhere at will. My grandchildren can't use their garden Becaue the neighbours cats use it as a toilet and I am fed up of cats digging up and sitting on and ruining expensive plants in my garden.

NewMumSooon · 07/04/2020 17:00

There are a lot of psychopathic cat haters on this thread. How can anyone condone such an act of violence against any animal? Report to RSPCA- he is threatening to break the law.

MrMeeseekscando · 07/04/2020 17:19

I remember being horrified as a kid when one of our neighbours caught and drowned another neighbour's cat.
I dont agree with it, but I bet she was at the end of her tether, she was such a gentle soul. Her garden was pretty much her only joy in life. Imagine being driven to that?
The police and RSCPA don't give a shit unless they can get a prosecution. Idle words are nothing.
Keep. The. Cat. In.

NewMumSooon · 07/04/2020 17:24

That's ridiculous and horrendous. No healthy person could allow themselves to be "driven" to drown an innocent animal! You've got serious issues if that's the case. Gentle soul my a@&£!

Griselda1 · 07/04/2020 17:25

A gentle soul drowned someone's else's cat. That's a worrying categorisation.

MrMeeseekscando · 07/04/2020 17:32

She really was, widowed, adult son with learning disabilities living with her.
Just snapped one day.

Keepingthingsinteresting · 07/04/2020 17:33

@NewMumSooon on what basis do you think “threatening to break the law” is a criminal offence. It isn’t (certainly not in this case).
I don’t condone animal abuse, but if the owners keep their cats out of other people’s gardens there is no risk , if it isn’t then it’s the owner’s fault, like if you let your dog run off lead in livestock areas and it gets shot, that’s terribly sad for the dog who has an irresponsible owner, but entirely on them

NewMumSooon · 07/04/2020 17:44

No-one has the right to drown a cat. Regardless of where it is or what they feel about it. By all means he can shoo it away or try squirting with water, or using one of those beepy things which warn cats away. Trapping and drowning? No.

EatShitBoswell · 07/04/2020 21:06

No-one has the right to drown a cat. Regardless of where it is or what they feel about it.

This 💯. Shocking that it needs to be said really Angry

SilverBangle · 07/04/2020 21:08

There are a lot of psychopathic cat haters on this thread

I don’t hate cats. I’m not too fussed on cat “owners” who insist their cat has a right to wander and drive their neighbours to the brink of becoming an animal abuser. I bet there are many cats buried in their neighbours gardens whilst the —guilty— distraught cat owners put out FB posts asking for neighbours to help find their cat that has been “missing” for a week

EatShitBoswell · 07/04/2020 21:10

Also 'gentle souls' don't drown cats Confused.
She may have seemed that way to you observing from the outside but most normal people wouldn't consider using extreme violence to resolve something that's irritating them.

ChibiTotoro · 07/04/2020 21:18

Blimey, you really can tell people are at home so much more at the moment, it's really brought out the cat haters. You realise cats and all other manner of wildlife visit your garden when you're normally out of the house too, yet it didn't seem to bother people so much.

MrMeeseekscando · 08/04/2020 10:15

Cats are not wildlife.
Most wildlife doesn't cause a nuisance.
