Cat hating neighbour

Igrewitmyself · 07/04/2020 10:20

My neighbour has told me he is setting a trap in his garden where he will catch any cats who deign to go into his garden in a net and then plunge them into a barrel of water where they will have to stay until he releases them
As if there isn't enough to worry about at the moment...... If I report him, will the RSPCA come out or will I have to wait until he actually hurts a cat before they can do something..

Escrima Cats do NOT bury their crap. Even if they did it’s not a surprise Gardner’s would like to find whilst digging up their vegetable patch in their own gardens.

In case you hadn’t noticed nobody owns foxes or wild birds. Therefore nobody has the responsibility for them.

Face it. Nobody likes your cat. Not even you if you can’t be arsed to keep it safe!

Escrima · 07/04/2020 12:59

@SilverBangle Yes, they do, in general.

Ok sure 🤣 how ridiculous.

Whenever a cat murdering thread comes up there always seems to be an alarming number of people agreeing. In actual real life not many people seem to say this out loud. What with the animal cruelty laws and not wanting people to think they are abusive arseholes. If you are worried about your cats keep them in for a while, as people seem to have gone mental and want to see your animals suffer. Or they could just talk to you and tell you it's really pissing them off and what can be done to ease the situation.

Keeva2017 · 07/04/2020 13:03

I’m pro animal rights, can’t bear cruelty to animals. But we have just moved house, finances are tight and because Of cats I have to go out in the garden and clear up shit every single morning before I can let my children play. In their own garden. I was growing veg but they have shit in that too.

Cat lovers tell me that’s fair. Tell me tough that my children risk playing with cat excrement in the safety of their own garden. It’s the cats, Iv seen them. Occasional wildlife fair enough that’s life. But half a dozen cats using my little garden, my veg patch as a toilets every day. Why should I have to put up that.

I will be buying and using anything I can afford that doesn’t seriously injure them to put them off. If I get one and dunking it in some cold water puts it off then that’s a win for me.

Thelnebriati · 07/04/2020 13:05

Please keep your cats in.
Many people are trying to grow food and don't want to deal with your cats waste, even if it is buried. Especially since most of you can't be bothered to have your vet worm your cats.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 07/04/2020 13:06

Why is it that I love cats and none ever seem to visit me? :(

SilverBangle · 07/04/2020 13:06

Also, you know, I've watched it happen countless times

You obviously haven’t 🙄 Your neighbours will have that “pleasure”.

Keepingthingsinteresting · 07/04/2020 13:14

He almost certainly isn’t going to do it, probably just sick of your & other people’s cats shitting in his garden and trying to make you think- & frankly that is fair as almost all cat owners don’t seem to care about the impact of their animal on other people’s gardens. I shoot them with water pistols if I catch them- keep them inside or cat proof your garden, your choice to keep a pet, shouldn’t be to anyone else’s detriment.

Escrima · 07/04/2020 13:22

@SilverBangle What? Why is it obvious I haven't? I'm not sure why I would lie about it? Jeez.

NailsNeedDoing · 07/04/2020 13:25

So take responsibility for your own pet and keep them in your garden. Or, if you can’t ensure that your cats stay in your garden, offer to arrange and pay for the neighbours garden to be cat proofed and buy them one of those sonic things. Job done.

Keeva2017 · 07/04/2020 13:27

Come on Escrima - tell me why my children should have to play in cat shit? Tell me why I should have to cat proof my garden when you won’t even though it’s your cat? Why won’t you take responsibility for your animal. I’m not biased against cats by the way. If a dog was getting out of its garden on to mine and shitting in it I’d feel the same way. But you seem to think that you don’t have to take responsibility for bringing an animal into someone else life? I don’t want a cat so why can’t you keep it in your garden?

Keeva2017 · 07/04/2020 13:30

I wouldn’t drown an animal but if keeping it in some shallow water is uncomfortable enough to keep away from me then I think il be buying some humane traps!

caramac04 · 07/04/2020 13:31

I get sick of neighbours cats shitting in my garden. However I will never harm them or subject them to torture as your neighbour has threatened. And it is torture no doubt about that. I wouldn’t do that because I’m not cruel or unhinged. Report him to the RSPCA.

theschoolonthehill · 07/04/2020 13:45

re. cats generally burying their poo (no picking up needed),

Do they? The cats who come into my garden leave messes of poo behind. It is very hard to clean up esp when the grass is wet. Very often it means my children can’t use the garden. Is there anything I can do? I read citrus but that would wash away very quickly. Do mothballs work? I read they do and hope to buy them for this summer?

londonrach · 07/04/2020 13:47

Please keep your pet in your garden. Silly answer to this. Its vvv easy to cat proof your garden. Most of your neighbours will be pleased if you did.

londonrach · 07/04/2020 13:48

Simple not silly

londonrach · 07/04/2020 13:49

I hate the cats bury poo..they really dont and i know the def between fox and cat and if they did do you as a gardener what to dig it up.

Thisismytimetoshine · 07/04/2020 13:49

If the RSPCA has any sense they'll tell you to keep your bloody cat in your own garden...

Escrima · 07/04/2020 13:50

@Keeva2017 Whoa.

Come on Escrima - tell me why my children should have to play in cat shit?

They shouldn't. Have a little check in your garden for any shit, cat or otherwise. That's part of letting children play outside, surely?

Tell me why I should have to cat proof my garden when you won’t even though it’s your cat?

You don't. Just be tolerant. Cats are part of outdoor life like foxes, birds, mice, spiders, etc.

Why won’t you take responsibility for your animal.

I do, see my previous posts.

But you seem to think that you don’t have to take responsibility for bringing an animal into someone else life?

I have not brought an animal into anyone else's life. None of my neighbours have told me there is a problem (incidentally, my neighbours on all sides have dogs so I know my cats don't go in their gardens). If they did, we would have a conversation about what can be done. I am a very reasonable person and a responsible pet owner. As above, I have taken steps to ensure my cats poo in the right places (their tray and my garden). If it wasn't working, I would consider other options.

I don’t want a cat so why can’t you keep it in your garden?

My cat is not in your garden.

hardyloveit · 07/04/2020 13:53

@Escrima you know cats generally don't shit in their own garden right?
In my old house I had a massive problem with a neighbours cat shitting in my garden and not burying it. It's a pain in the backside clearing up before the kids could go out and it wasn't even my cat!!!! I complained to said neighbour (caught the cat doing it one night - very distinctive collar)
Maybe those with cats can cat proof their own garden so they can't get out!!
Comparing cat poo to wild animals is irrelevant- that's not someone's pet!

NaturalBornWoman · 07/04/2020 13:55

Are you this angry about fox poo, or bird poo?

Well the thing about fox and bird poo is that it isn’t the result of someone making a decision to keep an animal and then allow that animal to cause nuisance and distress to other people. So it’s not comparable. Do you see?

Thisismytimetoshine · 07/04/2020 13:56

My cat is not in your garden. What sort of dickhead comment is that? It's in somebody's garden if it's not in yours Hmm

Keeva2017 · 07/04/2020 13:56

Escrima your total denial of the problem is why people feel the need to resort to extreme measures ( repeat I would not kill a cat or seriously injure it but I will do anything go to that line).

Cats owners be aware I might be your neighbour and if you have ignored my requests then your cat is at risk of unwanted prolonged soapy bath in some cold water. Smile

Devlesko · 07/04/2020 13:57

Sounds like he's had enough tbh, not a nice threat though.
We have those spiky things round the bottom and top of our walls and fences as they are no better than rodents tbh. They shit everywhere and it stinks of shit and wee when you go out otherwise.
This is why cats shouldn't be pets, it's so selfish to expect others to put up with your shit.
Sorry, not what you want to hear, but I hate the bloody things.

NewMumSooon · 07/04/2020 13:57

Omg @SilverBangle you've obviously never owned a cat before!! 🙈Grin
