I've just seen this in my FB page.
A local group has shared it.
'Clap for Boris' (see pic) Tonight 8pm.
Human to human, I wish him well & a full recovery but I won't be clapping... Hmm

Would it be unreasonable of me not to 'clap for Boris' tonight?

Can’t you just say nothing? What are you hoping this thread achieves

It is keeping it real. Let's not forget what a disaster Boris is as a Prime Minister just because he's ill.

Everyone has also said they wish him well and feel for his family.

VegetableMunge · 07/04/2020 10:46

Perhaps those of you who dislike this thread could heed your own counsel and say nothing.

koshkatt · 07/04/2020 10:47

In your opinion.

'the previous underfunding of the NHS coming home to roost, BJs personal push for Brexit meaning the NHS has already lost many staff and many more will leave when this crisis is over. It's been a shitstorm to say the least. '

But there was a referendum? so it was in fact the majority of the population that voted who 'pushed for brexit'. Of course its been a 'shitstorm', a global pandemic will sadly cause that. The only thing we can be grateful for is bumbling Corbyn and his hapless sidekick Abbott weren't in charge.

dayswithaY · 07/04/2020 10:48

I'm so over this clapping nonsense. Can we just agree to stop now? I truly hope Boris makes a full recovery but there's no need to clap. People just stop arranging these things, it's been done.

JasonPollack · 07/04/2020 10:49

I just wish they'd stop doing them at 8pm when I'm trying to put the baby to bed.

Besides, I'm pretty sure Boris has all the clap he needs.

Rhea1981 · 07/04/2020 10:49

Me and my children will be clapping for him tonight. I hope and pray he gets better and I think he's a brilliant prime minister.

MouthBreathingRage · 07/04/2020 10:50

Has our NHS been overwhelmed?

Are you not reading the stories from the front line? Yes, I would say the NHS is being overwhelmed. I will be surprised if the NHS as a concept will survive this. I think the true cost of this is hidden by retirees and volunteers coming out in droves - once this is over, they go back to their previous lives, and more carers on top will quit from the trauma of what they had to deal with. This will truly show the effect that years of systematically destroying our healthcare system has had.

The lockdown was late. The government went on the advice it wanted to hear with their big ideas about 'herd immunity'. Other countries reacted far quicker, and the it's evident from the fact they kept their deaths in the 100s rather than 1000s that our government fucked it up.

Peppafrig · 07/04/2020 10:50

I Wish him well I really do but I won't be clapping for anything. I thought the first one was lovely but now people want them a few times a week for different reasons it takes the meaning away for me.

AlternativePerspective · 07/04/2020 10:50

So you thought you’d start an attention seeking thread on it instead?

Seriously what is it with people’s need to seek attention like this - “oh I won’t be clapping, am I unreasonable?” Who cares?

No you’re not unreasonable, but you’re unreasonable to start yet another thread on who someone won’t be clapping for.

I won't be clapping for boris.

x2boys · 07/04/2020 10:51

Boris has been Prime minister for 4 months ,and facing one of the biggest world crisis, s in most people lifetime sure the Government have made mistakes ,as have most countries ,I'm not sure how any Government would have handled it any better ,.

ginghamstarfish · 07/04/2020 10:53

What nonsense, instead of these ridiculous virtue signalling exercises (while half of them are out having a barbecue in the park the next day), just give some money to a suitable charity or cause, if you want to actually be of help to someone. Twats.

recrudescence · 07/04/2020 10:53

Whatever people here are saying about not wanting Johnson to actually suffer and/or die, they’re still taking the opportunity to put the boot in on a personal level. That’s still pretty distasteful IMO.

VegetableMunge · 07/04/2020 10:54

Boris has been PM for eight and a half months, not four.

Helmetbymidnight · 07/04/2020 10:54

my kids school has been making protective equipment for the local hospital staff- since the govt failed to get them proper ppe. 1/4 of them are off sick - maybe with the virus, no one knows because tests arent avaliable here.
i'll clap for the school at some stage.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 07/04/2020 10:55

'Are you not reading the stories from the front line? Yes, I would say the NHS is being overwhelmed.'

I have friends and family 'on the frontline', no it hasn't been overwhelmed. Though it is, as expected, very busy. There is critical care capacity currently all over the country. You should watch the press conferences at 5pm the CMO gives the details. Maybe don't believe everything you read in the red tops. It may change but at the moment it has capacity.

madcatladyforever · 07/04/2020 10:55

Really what a lovely comment Helmetbymidnight Hmm

So anyone who clearly doesn't hold your exact views has a low IQ?

Actually a lot of people enjoy the community spirit that appreciating others brings and makes them feel not so alone.

CV has been incredibly tough and isolating for many people and a bit of wartime spirit can make the world of difference.

If you don't want to clap then don't it isn't compulsory.

Helmetbymidnight · 07/04/2020 10:57

exactly, its not compulsary, im just relating my experience of those who want to clap for boris.

Oysterbabe · 07/04/2020 10:59

I like him, I hope he recovers and I feel quite anxious and sad about the whole thing.
I haven't taken part in any of this fucking bullshit and am not about to start now.

Susiesoap7 · 07/04/2020 10:59

No I won't! I care more about my family and friends than Boris!

koshkatt · 07/04/2020 10:59

Helmet at least own the vile comment that you made. I don't clap for any of these things as I prefer not to but I would not make comments like yours about those who do. And in case you have forgotten what you said...

i think we should have a clap for the boris clappers. most of them ime have a very low iq

Hmm
GetOffYourHighHorse · 07/04/2020 11:00

'exactly, its not compulsary, im just relating my experience of those who want to clap for boris.'

If you're going to sneer about IQ please check your spelling or else you could look a bit silly.

Helmetbymidnight · 07/04/2020 11:00

i do 'own' the 'vile' comment :) i said it, i mean it. Grin
