Would it be unreasonable of me not to 'clap for Boris' tonight?

I've just seen this in my FB page.
A local group has shared it.
'Clap for Boris' (see pic) Tonight 8pm.
Human to human, I wish him well & a full recovery but I won't be clapping... Hmm

Would it be unreasonable of me not to 'clap for Boris' tonight?

My view is simple you want to clap and pray for people suffering COVID 19 then do it for all of them not just the famous one.

madcatladyforever · 07/04/2020 09:47

I feel deeply sorry for him, he must be feeling horrendous but I won't be clapping because I live in the middle of nowhere with nobody to see me but the foxes and my cat.
I think it would be nice in London though. We all need a bit of a lift mentally when we're ill and I'm sure the prime minister is no different.

SarahInAccounts · 07/04/2020 09:48

No. No clapping here.

CanofCant · 07/04/2020 09:50

YANBU. I was saying the same thing this morning regarding him being turned into some kind of saint.

Burgerandchipvan · 07/04/2020 09:50

Clapping him for what? Not demonstrating leadership, boasting about shaking hands with CV patients, putting the lives of his colleagues, girlfriend and all the staff in Downing Street at risk, the contingency plan of Dominic "no idea how close Dover & Calais are" Raab as second in command?

I'll pass thanks.

Shinjirarenai · 07/04/2020 09:51

Well said @DanielRiccardosSmile

The whole Clap for (insert good cause) is being slightly overdone.

Maybe another one for the NHS after a month when morale is beginning to flag...and let's hope BJ is well enough to join in. Hopefully the whole episode will be enough to realign Conservative thinking on the NHS.

BrooHaHa · 07/04/2020 09:52

Also, why is it always 8 p.m. when the kids are in bed? I'm glad no one round here joins in.

Samcro · 07/04/2020 09:53

yanbu
I really hope he recovers. but no way would I clap for someone who leads a government who that targets the disabled/sick and poor.

stayathomegardener · 07/04/2020 09:55

Obviously I wish him well but seriously his idiotic policy of herd immunity hasn't helped the situation.

On another thread are many seriously ill posters who have been denied hospital admission despite their oxygen being low and struggling to breathe.

I have never been through anything as scary as gasping for breath at home and unsupported.

We live in a two tier society and Boris should be ashamed.

MrsFionaCharming · 07/04/2020 09:55

I’m living in hospital accommodation at the moment, I’m guessing no one there will be joining in.

pigsDOfly · 07/04/2020 09:55

Oh fgs is this something that's happening across the country?

I wish him no harm and hope he recovers, poor bloke, but I didn't vote for him, I certainly won't be clapping for him.

Utterly ridiculous, he's not some sort of hero.

Makeitgoaway · 07/04/2020 09:56

This is really ridiculous now. It's gone way beyond virtue signalling, it's much more about making others feel/look bad and (again) trying to dictate others' behaviour.

Why on earth does it matter to anyone else how I spend 10mins of my evening? (unless perhaps because I'm making an annoying noise Grin)

stayathomegardener · 07/04/2020 09:56

Oh and I'm nursing an 87 year old neighbour with it. Totally abandoned, moved in with us.

Any spare energy for clapping will be reserved for her.

VegetableMunge · 07/04/2020 09:57

Unfortunately as with anything a nice gesture has been hijacked by people intent on shaming those who don’t participate.

Yep. And in this particular instance, politicising it whilst whining at others for doing that.

Nonnymum · 07/04/2020 09:58

I won't be clapping. I wish him well but no more than anyone else seriously ill in hospital. Why would I clap for Boris and not the many other nameless people who are just as important?

inwood · 07/04/2020 09:59

I'm not clapping for anything. It's a load of bollocks and I don't like all the competitive virtue signalling.

Clap for kids
Clap for carers
Clap for the NHS
Clap for Boris
Clap for keyworkers

YANBU at all.

Thisismytimetoshine · 07/04/2020 10:02

The whole clapping malarkey has lost whatever genuine message it had. I wish Boris all the best, but clapping /dancing on the doorstep/ shining torches in the garden/clap for the kids(wtf!) is just getting on my bloody wick now.
Every nice thought always has to have bank wagon jumping gobshites milking it dry.

Inkpaperstars · 07/04/2020 10:02

And the more it happens, for the more different reasons, the less meaningful any of it is.

Agree

GetOffYourHighHorse · 07/04/2020 10:03

'No YANBU but it seems he has gained his halo by being Very sick. So I will be surprised if you are not told you are bu.'

Gained his halo? Why are people so nasty. A saw a right vicious, disturbed individual say she hoped the nurses used a long needle.

Clap or don't clap. Same as for the NHS if people want to show support great, if they don't that's fine too.

PrivateEye · 07/04/2020 10:03

Who started this? Are they particularly dim? Do they normally go on local FB selling pages demonstrating their prowess with jars of kitkats wrapped in glittery ribbons topped with a threadbare easter chick, and now need something equally as dismal to occupy their time?

No, it's ridiculous. I don't wish the man any harm but as I didn't support him when it was the election and meant something why would I support him with an empty gesture now ?

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 07/04/2020 10:05

He's not a fucking pixie, clapping won't make him better.

You win the internet today Grin
