Woman walked out of Tesco in front of me carrying 2 cucumbers only! Wtf?

OP posts:
lilgreen · 05/04/2020 19:10

Look she was probably in need of a vat of Pimms ok!!!! I know I am.

Greenpop21 · 05/04/2020 19:11

Nowhere does it say which food is essential. Shop for food as infrequently as possible. She may not have been out for 2 weeks!!!

Helenluvsrob · 05/04/2020 19:13

If they were Waitrose essential cucumbers , they are essential.
See also essential tiramisu 😂

Snaga · 05/04/2020 19:14

I walked out of Tesco today with just two soaps. None in Asda and Tesco was on my way home.

Do I hand myself into the police or just self-flagellate for 5 minutes? If it helps determine my punishment I haven't otherwise left home for 12 days.

Eckhart · 05/04/2020 19:14

Nothing is essential. Unless there's only one food someone can eat.

@MadameMeursault Please post the link to the guidance that tells us what we are and aren't allowed to buy.

It's not ideal to go into a supermarket just for cucumbers, but maybe she forgot and had to go back in, or maybe she's super organised and has everything else she needs for a month. Have some humanity. We've all cursed and had to go back in before.

AmelieTaylor · 05/04/2020 19:15

@SeperatedSwans. ‘during my shop’ is the key there.

It’s all the people who KEEP popping into a shop to get the odd thing that can’t seem to get a grip on the ‘as infrequently as possible’ message.

Like the numb nuts going out for ‘wine & Easter Eggs’.
But them with your shopping for sure!

Going out just for them is stupid & selfish.

@MadameMeursault maybe they didn’t have the batteries she needed? She needs to learn to improvise!

Eckhart · 05/04/2020 19:16

@Snaga You self flagellate, you bloody fool! You're not seriously suggesting you might bother the police at a time like this, are you? Wink

alltripe · 05/04/2020 19:17

I went to the supermarket last night and came out without much - there was hardly anything in there. I had to go somewhere else today, because you know, I have to eat.

WaterIsWide · 05/04/2020 19:18

Even if she shoves them up her arse it's got to be better than the Mumsnet 'food essentials police' who permanently seem to have a Stick up their arse.

Hurrah !

basic necessities, including food (But excluding cucumber, natch)

BTW, OP, you do know cucumbers are food, don't you ? Would tinned cucumber be preferable ?

People like the OP are just salivating at the thought of rationing. Probably fantasising about a much rumoured full lockdown.

Just as long as their cupboards/fridge etc are full. I'm alright Jack, eh ?

Why do such grudges and resentments about total strangers going about their business surface at a time like this ?

So much for we're in this together. (Well, we're not, we're self isolating)

Silvergreen · 05/04/2020 19:19

Get a life.

madmumofteens · 05/04/2020 19:20

I was waiting in the queue to get into Aldi's one out one in and saw their bedding plants were on offer and stuck them in my trolley and someone asked me why I was buying them wtf is going on trolley shaming I just want to try and be as normal as I can be and I wasn't lingering or holding anybody up

MamaBearOnLockdown · 05/04/2020 19:22

She might have been one of the stockpilers and has triple freezers with enough food to last for the next 8 months or so. She only needed cucumber, everything else would have been greedy.

CeibaTree · 05/04/2020 19:23

OP this thread sums up everything that has gone wrong with people since lockdown started. I always wondered how populations initially go along with totalitarian regimes before they take hold, but small minded, ridged thinking people like you are making it all too apparent.

multivac · 05/04/2020 19:23

Maybe she was making tzatziki? Cucumbers are essential for that.

chocolatviennois · 05/04/2020 19:24

Maybe she did the rest of her shop elsewhere and cucumbers were out of stock so she had to try another place for cucumbers. I am currently shopping for 3 elderly households as well as my family. Last week one person wanted self raising flour and I ended up visiting three shops to find one with it in stock. So I came out of the final shop with only one item but had done a proper shop elsewhere on the same shopping trip.

browzingss · 05/04/2020 19:30

The other day I queued about 20 minutes outside Tesco to get in, then spent 10-15 minutes queuing for the self checkouts.

It’s only once I paid for my shop that I realised I had forgotten some items. In my haste, I completely missed a few aisles. As I was already in the shop I just picked up the few things I missed and paid for them at the tills again. My 2nd shop probably would look as silly as buying 2 cucumbers but you wouldn’t have known I had a full weekly shop in my bags.

slipperywhensparticus · 05/04/2020 19:34

Can you get tinned cucumbers?

SlipSlidin · 05/04/2020 19:34

In Lidl on Friday there were no bread or pasta products whatsoever, hardly any milk, no kitchen spray or soap, no butter. This meant an extra trip to Sainsbury’s. I don’t want to have to go to multiple stores but as I’m buying for 4 adults plus MIL and 2 sets of elderly neighbors I didn’t have much choice. Go fuck yourself op.

Taddda · 05/04/2020 19:38

Can you get tinned cucumbers?

Yes, their called gherkins Wink

Shitfuckoh · 05/04/2020 19:38

@TimeAintNothing I had to smile at the nuggets! Mines the same and our main shop a week has been missing some of the 'main' elements of his food - thankfully my freezer always has them as back up but its reaching the point where I also may end up leaving the shop with 'just' one of those.

For the people saying you can do without milk etc. What do you recommend I give my toddler? Previously we've been told milk IS important for childrens diet. Did i miss the memo stating it no longer is?

Outtedagain · 05/04/2020 19:40

You need a hobby besides cucumber watching.

choc71 · 05/04/2020 19:41

I went to the Co-op on Thursday to buy goats milk. I leave the house once a week on a Thursday, do my shop at Lidl and they don't sell goats milk. So I'd only nipped in for 1 thing, but it is the only milk DS1 can tolerate. To anyone in the Co-op, I'd only bought 1 thing.
So what I'm saying is - maybe she had already done her weekly or fortnightly shop and she couldn't get cucumbers.

Outtedagain · 05/04/2020 19:42

@SlipSlidin .....maybe that’s what the cucumber shopper had in mind 🤣🤣😂😂

tallah · 05/04/2020 19:42

Fucks sake, mind your own business! Your kind are getting on my tits!!

SybilWrites · 05/04/2020 19:42

who are you? the corona police?
