Woman walked out of Tesco in front of me carrying 2 cucumbers only! Wtf?

OP posts:
bemusedmoose · 07/04/2020 10:03

Personally i wouldnt bother going out for just cucumbers during all this but maybe her family were driving her bonkers and needed an excuse, maybe she's just carrying on as usual, maybe the rest of her list was gone, who knows.

twinguineapig · 07/04/2020 10:13

We get through two a week as they are one of the vegetables the guinea pigs like.

Holdingmybreath · 07/04/2020 10:18

I went out last week for potatoes and carrots only.
I had to work some extra shifts at short notice and this was what I needed to make extra meals with until I did a big shop.
Maybe that was all she needed for the week.

ChocolateQuiltedShitPig · 07/04/2020 10:23

Oh fuck off

MamaBearOnLockdown · 07/04/2020 10:31

and people wonder why the so-called "lock down" is not showing better results.. well, that's why. There's no lockdown! And people are proud to "carry on as normal".

HoffiCoffi13 · 07/04/2020 10:40

No, the reason the ‘lock down’ isn’t currently showing results is because it takes longer than 2 weeks to show results. As has been shown in every single other country.
The average time from contracting the virus to death is 3-4 weeks. It will take at least that length of time for the lockdown to have any effect on the daily numbers.

@twinguineapig I was pleased after shopping yesterday to think I don't have to go out for two weeks - I've milk frozen and can bake bread. Then remembered the bloody Guinea pigs! I wonder how quickly I could start growing veg or herbs that they will eat? They can't eat frozen stuff.

Bluesheep8 · 07/04/2020 10:44

you buy enough food for a week - or 2, because apparently some people can't even carry a shop for 2 weeks

Because I CAN'T CARRY IT? Try as I might.Hmm

Makeitgoaway · 07/04/2020 10:45

Why are people so determined to make stuff up? If the lockdown were showing results when it's only weeks old UK would have managed to achieve something no one else has.

And why are people so determined to insist the rules aren't being followed and need to be tighter? Every police force said this weekend that the rules were generally well respected and yet SM is full of people insisting otherwise, even though, if they were being so "good" they wouldn't have been there to see it.

Bluesheep8 · 07/04/2020 10:45

Can the guineas eat cucumber though?

MigginsMrs · 07/04/2020 10:50

and people wonder why the so-called "lock down" is not showing better results.. well, that's why. There's no lockdown! And people are proud to "carry on as normal"

But it takes time to show results and also with no lockdown can you imagine how much worse things would be?

Unless someone was a hermit who didn’t work and never went anywhere or bought anything but food no one is carrying on as normal because it isn’t actually possible just now!

I read a survey thing yesterday that 60% of people think they are doing better than everyone else at the lockdown thing. Most people are complying well as far as I can see. Why assume everyone else but you is doing it wrong?

CalmerViolet · 07/04/2020 10:52

It is all this ‘popping out’ into shops that is a problem, not necessarily what gets bought.

You shop once, you take one risk
You pop in 3 times, you triple your risk, and the risk to everyone else.

Pop out once, potentially infect 3 people, who infect 3 people each... = 12

You pop out 3 times and potentially infect 9 people who each infect 3 people = 36.

Apologies Smilethoyourheartisbreaking, I must remember that only hyperbole is acceptable on these threads Grin

@onceateacher ours are having grass and dandelions, they seem happy with that. I also got a veggie box from the local farm shop who have a contactless delivery - order and pay online, drive there and open your boot, then phone them and they put it in your boot.

MigginsMrs · 07/04/2020 10:59

Yes but by only having a couple of socially distanced shopping trips risks are already reduced given the measures in shops and also that all other places it might spread such as cafes, other shops, gyms etc are all closed. It can’t be reduced to zero. The aim is to reduce social interactions by I think 75% to slow the spread not completely stop it which isn’t possible. As far as I know the idea is to reduce the reproduction rate of the virus so that instead of infecting 3 people and them infecting 3 you might only infect 1 and them only infect 1 etc which is brought about not only by you going to less places but everyone else not being there too.

twinguineapig · 07/04/2020 11:00

@bluesheep yes they can eat cucumber but not as the only vegetable, they love it.

@Onceateacher
If you have carrots, you can sprout carrot tops for guinea pigs. Ours like peppers, lettuce, cucumber, they can even have the odd bit of fruit.
If you are low on fresh veg then order some Vit C powder for them. They are like humans and get vit c from their diet.

MamaBearOnLockdown · 07/04/2020 11:38

he reason the ‘lock down’ isn’t currently showing results is because it takes longer than 2 weeks to show results. As has been shown in every single other country.

but other countries ARE on lockdown and the behaviour described in this thread is NOT allowed.. that's the point! Their results are based on rules and people forced to follow them when we don't have these rules.

People are so very proud to "carry on as normal", not show any common sense and translate "if it's not expressly forbidden I am invited to do it".
It's embarrassing.

HoffiCoffi13 · 07/04/2020 11:40

But thats not what you said MamaBearOnLockdown. You said ‘and people are wondering why lockdown isn’t showing results’. No one with any knowledge of how this works is wondering that, as they are now expecting results yet.

HoffiCoffi13 · 07/04/2020 11:40

*not

MamaBearOnLockdown · 07/04/2020 11:41

Most people are complying well as far as I can see. Why assume everyone else but you is doing it wrong?

No one is assuming anything, just reading 300 messages gloating about doing unnecessary shopping trips and proudly popping to the shop for any bits they might fancy, as opposed to shop as seldom as you possibly can.

Again, if you need calpol or piriton, no one expects you to wait for a full shop. The so-called urgent need for an easter egg or a cucumber (more than a week before Easter...)? Really couldn't wait?

MamaBearOnLockdown · 07/04/2020 11:42

No one with any knowledge of how this works is wondering that, as they are now expecting results yet.

people with knowledge are in despair about the stupidity of people. I haven't met one nurse or one doctor yet who is happy with the situation and the carelessness of joe public.
