Woman walked out of Tesco in front of me carrying 2 cucumbers only! Wtf?

Can we all stop judging each other over what's essential and what isn't?

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 06/04/2020 20:25

I can’t stop what I haven’t started

But i like the sentiment

notacooldad · 06/04/2020 20:33

Cucumbers will never be an essential item for me. I hate them.
However I couldn't care less if the person in front of me in Aldi or wherever buys them . If they are for sale in a shop you are allowed to shop in, fine!

Rainbow · 06/04/2020 21:06

I say it must have been. If she lives anywhere near me she would have queued for 30 minutes before getting into the shop.

Hushhush89 · 06/04/2020 21:10

Mindyour own business, it might be for her....
Glad you didn't see my husband out shopping today as guaranteed you would have moaned about him. He drove for 2 hours so he could do a shop for his nan (did most of it before the drive there) dropped shopping off and she mentioned she needed a few more bits. He queued up for 45 minutes got in the shop and they didn't have any of the items she asked for. So he though f**k it, not leaving without anything so he brought himself a meal deal and no it wasn't essential but he didn't want to walk out with nothing especially after queuing for 45 minutes to get in the shop....

StealthMama · 06/04/2020 21:23

These threads are doing my head in. There is NO guidance on essential purchases. It says...
shopping for basic necessities, for example food and medicine

They cannot and will not define any items available in a shop as essential or not.

Stop misinterpreting the guidelines and having a rant on MN about fucking cucumbers! It's not your business.

FaveNumberIs2 · 06/04/2020 21:30

Fgs what is wrong with people? Mind your own damn business.

I finished work on Friday and staid in the house until today. Today I went to Lidl to restock the fridge and also picked up two Easter eggs, two bars of chocolate, and a pack of tortellini.

Bite me.

MasterMargarita · 06/04/2020 21:32

Oh ffs I've got to go to the shop tomorrow, should I run my shopping list by you first? Guess what, I'll be buying Easter eggs! Shock horror!

Serin · 06/04/2020 21:44

Maybe they will last her a couple of weeks like the MN chicken.
Cucumber soup,
Cucumber salad
Cucumber stuffed with err more cucumber?

skyblu · 06/04/2020 22:17

Things like this get on my nerves. Seriously, mind your own business.
She might be a proper p*ss taker who just doesn’t get it!
She might have a reason why she needs that & why that’s her only purchase.

Either way...not your business. Have you really got nothing better to do with this time than take to the internet about this?? Where, by the way, the woman with the cucumbers is highly unlikely to see it?

Get your own life.
Look after you.

MamaBearOnLockdown · 06/04/2020 22:19

Maybe they will last her a couple of weeks like the MN chicken.

I REALLY need that MN cookbook. My entire family could last a month or more with a chicken and 2 cucumbers.
Imagine the relief of avoid shopping and the savings! How wrong have I been cooking all these years

Madein1995 · 06/04/2020 22:36

I went to the shop last week for 'non essentials' only

Ice
Ice crwam
Doritos
Cheese
Soured cream
Strawberry laces
Juice
Cans of coke

I didn't do a full shop because I didn't need things like milk etc quite yet and don't have a finite amount of space in the fridge, so the big shop wasn't for a few days. I'd also not planned on going to the shop so didn't have strong carriers and I use public transport. I popped in on the way home from work. Guaranteed I'd have got some dodgy looks but fuck it. I anti bacced my hands every 2 seconds and I observed social distancing. I fancied prosecco and a cornetto that evening. So sue me. Going to the shop isn't actually illegal you know. And if I'd bought some bread, would that have made my shopping OK?

Madein1995 · 06/04/2020 22:37

Oh, I bought prosecco as well

Haffiana · 06/04/2020 22:44

One of my husbands friends was out for his hour long walk today and was passing a shop on his way home. Thought he would get something to cheer his wife up as she is struggling with stress from work situation, lockdown, poorly relatives etc. So popped in on a whim and bought a bottle of Prosecco. 5 minutes later was stopped by the police in the street and given a £30 fine for non-essential shopping trip.

Such bollocks. Such utter bollocks. I can only hope you are simply ignorantly copying facebook shite rather than deliberately spreading misinformation.

Is this the new normal ? People moaning about what other people are buying ?
It’s all I’ve seen today

CHRISprattsFUTUREwife · 06/04/2020 23:00

They are for me right now, one of the foods I can eat during my pregnancy without feeling sickly...very refreshing...no I'm not that woman I've not left the house in 9 weeks 😂

MamaBearOnLockdown · 06/04/2020 23:11

Is this the new normal ? People moaning about what other people are buying ?

technically it's people moaning about unnecessary TRIPS but people guilty of those are trying to derail the issue and focus on the content to make a joke of the original and valid point.

It works, this thread has more than 300 messages, most of them from people proud to advocate unnecessary shopping outing but making it sound like they are the ones who are superior. What can you do...

swelchphr · 06/04/2020 23:22

It’s hardly just a bag of crisps, now is it? Good grief.

MysweetAudrina · 06/04/2020 23:26

Maybe she needed a box of tampons and they were in her pocket or handbag or maybe they had no tampons and she decided cucumber would fit nicely.

Praguemum · 07/04/2020 09:38

Read the post about Spain. Here in NZ you are told to shop once a week. Anything more is selfish. Can't believe how slack people in the UK are being.

Confused I’m in the UK and shopping around three weekly. I could judge your weekly shopping, but I won’t as everyone’s circumstances are different.

CloudyEm · 07/04/2020 10:00

I'm 10 weeks pregnant, cucumbers are one of the only things I can eat at the moment. Remember, you don't know what other people are going through :)

Makeitgoaway · 07/04/2020 10:01

Prague, you're getting a very warped picture if you're basing in on what people are getting over excited about on MN. IRL I really haven't seen anything outside the rules and I refuse to believe my high crime area has suddenly become more law abiding than the rest of the country.

Chillicheese123 · 07/04/2020 10:03

@Praguemum yeah, we’re all slackers, bit like your health minister who’s been out for bike rides and at the beach?
