Queens speech

Am I the only one who actually couldn’t give a shiny shit what she has to say at this time.

People are dying , everyone is affected so the last thing we need is a rich old woman sitting in her ivory castle asking us to stay calm.

It’s really wound me up, it’s constantly being mentioned on the news!

OP posts:

Hmm
ChicChicChicChiclana · 05/04/2020 20:59

@MadeForThis - I think it is 99.99% likely they have. But they can't make that public, can they? Be honest.

ACoupleofPeaches · 05/04/2020 20:59

I love the irony of someone telling people to try harder for an argument and then answering a post just with Hmm

Hilarious!

rwalker · 05/04/2020 21:00

For people who love the royal's it would be a comfort.

For people who don't like the royal's why watch it or care. There probably the same people who sit and watch a full episode of naked attraction only to go on about how vulgar tasteless and offensive it is.

don't watch it if you don't like royal's

givemeanamepls · 05/04/2020 21:00

That's me unsure. Clearly.

LuluJakey1 · 05/04/2020 21:00

@Imfinallyhappy1
What did you lol at?

ChicChicChicChiclana · 05/04/2020 21:00

"We'll meet again" is a figure of speech. Was that a serious point??

Iris243 · 05/04/2020 21:01

**I watched it, I liked it. Thought it was heartfelt and genuine.

The royal family do so much for charity and raising awareness**

This.

I love the queen and honestly it made me feel a bit better about the situation and I’m 28. Tired of the constant negativity.

neveradullmoment99 · 05/04/2020 21:02

Get rid of them. Leeches. Can't stand it either.

ThisWontHurt · 05/04/2020 21:02

*For people who love the royal's it would be a comfort.

For people who don't like the royal's why watch it or care.*

Totally agree. Seems like the last thing to bother being upset about and one of the easiest thing to ignore.

neveradullmoment99 · 05/04/2020 21:03

Just for the record, I didn't watch it. Couldn't give a flying fuck what she has to say.
Its the press. Constant reporting of it.

ArriettyJones · 05/04/2020 21:04

Seriously people and their logic of "don't watch it then" and "don't clap then", please try harder for an argument.

It’s not an argument- it’s a blood pressure protection strategy.

BelleSausage · 05/04/2020 21:04

Your annual reminder that the crown estates belong to the nation, not to the monarch. The crown estate pays 100% of it’s revenue to the treasury and is give a stipend in return in the form of the sovereign grant, which is what pays for the upkeep of all the palaces and castles.

This is excepting Sandringham which belongs entirely to the Queen. King George VI had to buy it off the Duke of Windsor after the abdication.

All of The Queen’s private estates also pay full tax too.

The only thing that we pay is for policing and security for royal events.

givemeanamepls · 05/04/2020 21:05

It’s not an argument- it’s a blood pressure protection strategy.

Fair enough. I can see that point.

Alsohuman · 05/04/2020 21:05

She was brilliant. And the “we’ll meet again” was perfect for the target audience. Am I the only person who’s heard of Vera Lynn?

Tootletum · 05/04/2020 21:05

I love the Queen. What's the problem?

Thesoundofnohandsclapping · 05/04/2020 21:06

I don't know the Queen, and she couldn't pick me out of a crowd. Nonetheless I respect the woman and the position she holds.

At a guess she didn't want to be Queen but she's done the job for decades and doesn't let on when she's found it dull as fuck. She was told that duty is important and she's going to get on with it until she drops.

She understands what the position entails and adheres to that. She wasn't going to write a speech that said 'this is a load of cockwallop' even if she were to think that because she knows what's expected in the role of queen.

She's put in 65 years of slog with bells on, but slog nonetheless. She won't give a toss about my respect, but it's there.

ArriettyJones · 05/04/2020 21:06

We'll meet again"?

How many here have actually met her?

It’s a lyric. She’s invoking Vera Lynn, surely? (I didn’t actually hear the speech.)

paintedsmile77 · 05/04/2020 21:06

What a truly disappointing speech. Why isn't she donating a bug chunk of money. It wasn't heartfelt either, someone wrote it for her. So easy to please the peasants.

youngestisapsycho · 05/04/2020 21:07

I like the queen, enjoyed the speech.... loved the colour of her lipstick!

StylishMummy · 05/04/2020 21:08

I was moved to tears by her speak. The comparison drawn from 1940 to now, heart rending. Anyone who wants the UK to be a republic needs their head testing

chomalungma · 05/04/2020 21:09

I watched it.
I made DS watch it - because it is future history.
Said the right things - and a historic reference to the war.

I am no fan of a Monarchy and I am a Republican - but I know that there are people in this country who will have appreciated it.

TheFutureMrsHardy · 05/04/2020 21:09

I think we need to treasure the Queen while we still have her.

The Monarchy will change hugely in years to come. Charles is clearly not ageing well, he looks like he has rheumatoid arthritis to me, and William and Kate are workshy at best. We will never see another Monarch like her.

I think she's an amazing example of dedication, and we all sat to watch her. Just as we do every Christmas.

nellodee · 05/04/2020 21:09

Bloody skillful propoganda. This old, cynical republican shed a tear. I may not believe or trust a word, but it pulls all the right strings, like the Olympics opening ceremony.

mrsBtheparker · 05/04/2020 21:09

Why isn't she donating a bug chunk of money
How do you know she isn't? She isn't some publicity hungry celeb who has to indulge in performance giving.
