Queens speech

Am I the only one who actually couldn’t give a shiny shit what she has to say at this time.

People are dying , everyone is affected so the last thing we need is a rich old woman sitting in her ivory castle asking us to stay calm.

It’s really wound me up, it’s constantly being mentioned on the news!

LOL @ at all the Anti Royals on here 🤣😂🤣 the level of immaturity is mind blowing

Oh, come on then. Blow our minds with reasons to be pro.

We have no idea what The Queen donates her money to privately. She certainly would not want publicity for it

Given both she and Charles are happy to detail their charitable donations of other people's money on their Duchy websites I find that hard to believe.

Imfinallyhappy1 · 05/04/2020 20:40

I think the following:

What a load of bollocks. It was generic crap written by someone else.

OP posts:
Loooobyloo · 05/04/2020 20:41

I thought it was very good especially the throwback to the speech her and Pricess Margret did during the war.

ChicCroissant · 05/04/2020 20:41

The last bit about meeting up with friends or family got me a bit, I wasn't expecting to find it moving.

PicsInRed · 05/04/2020 20:45

I also had a lump in my throat and a tear in my eye. Because it was a well crafted speech, well delivered.

I also cried when the Little Foot's mother died in A Land Before Time, however I didn't mistake that for a profound connection between me and dinosaurs. It was just good scripting.

Pat123dev · 05/04/2020 20:46

I watched it, I liked it. Thought it was heartfelt and genuine.

The royal family do so much for charity and raising awareness. I think they’ll be doing all they can to help. Just not bragging about it!

BraceYourselfEffie · 05/04/2020 20:47

Seems like a fairly harmless act to me.

If people won't get anything from it, they don't have to watch. If people will then they can. I'd hate to deny anyone something harmless like this, if it helps them at all. It's too shit as it is, without denying people small acts they would find useful. Better to just not watch if it's not for you.

JinglingHellsBells · 05/04/2020 20:47

I found it moving.

She's a year older than my mum and they both lived through the War. It gives perspective.

When she talked about her first broadcast in 1940 I thought God, that's 80 years ago.

I don't give a toss about her money. If you look at countries that are republics or have dictators, think about the corruption and the gilded palaces they live in.

I'd rather have Liz and Phil with their Tupperware any day.

BiologyIsReal · 05/04/2020 20:48

I wonder how many of those on here happy to slag off the Queen follow the doings of vacuous, self-regarding, navel gazing millionare celebs who don't hesitate to cast their pearls of wisdom before the masses.

ChicChicChicChiclana · 05/04/2020 20:48

Good post daisychain01.

If people can't let go of a bit of their anger now, then when can they? If the Queen donated her every last penny (which would mean selling off the crown estate in London and who would want to buy it now?) it wouldn't make this pandemic go away. I don't doubt for one second that it has been arranged for discreet donations to be made from her personal wealth - but if those were made public she would be equally villified for virtue signalling or something.

She and her husband and her peers (any that are still alive) are looking down the barrel of a gun with this pandemic.

Yes, ok, you would vote yesterday for the dissolution of the Monarchy we hear ya - but you aren't making yourself look big or clever or making any kind of coherent argument by pissing on this speech from a great height.

The speech will have brought some comfort to the very people who are most at risk and most unlikely to survive this pandemic. How can anyone begrudge that? It does my head in.

MarshaBradyo · 05/04/2020 20:48

It was moving. I didn’t expect that either.

JinglingHellsBells · 05/04/2020 20:49

@Imfinallyhappy1 Have a lovely evening.

MadeForThis · 05/04/2020 20:50

I think it just reinforced how out of touch the royal family are.

Have the royal family personally donated any money to help the fight against Coronavirus? Either to food banks or research? Or anything outside of their standard charitable work?

If they have then I will respect them for this.

hellsbells99 · 05/04/2020 20:52

I thought it was very genuine and moving

BraceYourselfEffie · 05/04/2020 20:52

Or anything outside of their standard charitable work?

Standard charitable work is still more charitable work than I do, so hard for me to judge them poorly for that.

Wehttam · 05/04/2020 20:52

Very moving, the tone was perfect, it was almost a goodbye speech, the we'll meet again part brought a lump to my throat.

GSTQ 🇬🇧

MyBlueMoonbeam · 05/04/2020 20:54

It was moving. I didn’t expect that either

This and I'm not exactly a Royalist - I thought she came over sympathetic and at the same time very stateswomamanlike tbh

ilovesooty · 05/04/2020 20:54

Disappointing. I was hoping she'd hammer home the necessity of sticking to the guidelines. Should have spoken two weeks ago anyway.

givemeanamepls · 05/04/2020 20:54

Seriously people and their logic of "don't watch it then" and "don't clap then", please try harder for an argument.

MyBlueMoonbeam · 05/04/2020 20:54

Womamlike 😅 you know what I mean

TheSandman · 05/04/2020 20:54

"We'll meet again"?

How many here have actually met her?

BraceYourselfEffie · 05/04/2020 20:55

Seriously people and their logic of "don't watch it then" and "don't clap then", please try harder for an argument.

It's not an argument - it's just an opinion.

givemeanamepls · 05/04/2020 20:56

It's not an argument - it's just an opinion.

Whatever it is, it is shite and not quite understanding of what the OP is saying.

Wheresthebeach · 05/04/2020 20:56

She presents very well, and it was a good speech as far as it went. But really I think in this time of crisis the RF doing something to actually help, considering how rich they are, would be appropriate so I was a bit disappointed in the lack of action.

MyHeartBurnsThereToo · 05/04/2020 20:57

Seriously people and their logic of "don't watch it then" and "don't clap then", please try harder for an argument.

Don't read them then Grin
