Queens speech

Am I the only one who actually couldn’t give a shiny shit what she has to say at this time.

People are dying , everyone is affected so the last thing we need is a rich old woman sitting in her ivory castle asking us to stay calm.

It’s really wound me up, it’s constantly being mentioned on the news!

YouTheCat · 04/04/2020 23:28

I think it very much depends what she says.

indemMUND · 04/04/2020 23:29

No she won't have to worry about that, never has. But she could've used the power and presence she possesses to inspire, encourage and defend while still maintaining the neutral stance she chose to encompass. Elizabeth I must have been spinning in her grave since this one inherited the throne.

Outtedagain · 04/04/2020 23:31

Yanbu I immediately Thought what good will it do ?
If people don’t listen to scientists, or the government why will they listen to ole Liz?

AnneLovesGilbert · 04/04/2020 23:31

You seem very angry OP.

Fuckyoumenopause · 04/04/2020 23:40

I suppose she has to do it. I won't be watching though, I can't see what she can add that hasn't already been said.

I suppose at least it takes the heat off Prince Andrew and Harry & Meghan for a bit Wink

Boogiewoogietoo · 04/04/2020 23:41

Why do you have difficulty understanding that other people may find comfort and support in her words?

She’s not just some old woman. She is the Queen of this country, and has been for nearly 70 years. She commands enormous admiration and respect.

YouTheCat · 04/04/2020 23:42

Some of the older generation (who are slightly more likely to be royalists) might listen to her?

LittleCandle · 04/04/2020 23:43

The Queen is damned when she does and damned when she doesn't. She simply can't win.

If you don't want to see the speech don't watch. How does it actually affect you in any way, shape or form?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 04/04/2020 23:44

I'm glad she's doing it

But why? Genuine question?

I'm a NHS HCP (not hospital based but face-to-face care High Risk patients )

So when I;m at work in my little mask, apron 'n' glove ensemble ( FYI , other clothes are worn) washing my hands till the flesh flakes off my bony little hands .....will I get a warm glow thinking how Her Majesty has bothered to give a little pre -recorded speech ?.

No.

whitesoxx · 04/04/2020 23:46

@70isaLimitNotaTarget and that's you. It'll be reassuring for some. Don't you want that?

SirChing · 04/04/2020 23:47

If some people tske comfort from it, then what's the harm?

PickAChew · 04/04/2020 23:47

We've had endless threads demanding she should say something.

ViciousJackdaw · 04/04/2020 23:47

I think it's just a sweetener anyway, I suspect we might be getting even stricter conditions in the next few days - we're not far off peak are we?

Kinneddar · 04/04/2020 23:48

She just cant win. Theres another thread on here which was started last week saying how dreadful it was she had gone into isolation and wasnt being seen to do anything and should be making a speech.

Seems shes damned if she does & damned if she doesnt

Imfinallyhappy1 · 04/04/2020 23:49

@Boogiewoogietoo absolute crap, I neither admire or respect her.

The reason being what 70islimit has said.

OP posts:
DailyKegelReminder · 04/04/2020 23:50

Agree OP.

Telling us the whole country will get through this awful time bla dee bla. Will sit in her castle until it all blows over. Bloody useless.

Admittedly it will give my nan and grandad comfort for some strange reason, so Im sure it will be well received 🙄

Chillyourbeans · 04/04/2020 23:56

I feel doomsdayish. Realistically the Queen will need to stay shielded until there is a vaccine, meaning we're unlikely to see her in public for the next 12/18 months. I reckon this broadcast is to give us one last glimpse of our monarch.

OfaFrenchmind2 · 04/04/2020 23:57

Not British, but I love the Queen. It will be nice to see her.
Will you need a 2m hand hold to survive this incredible trigger OP?

helgahelga · 04/04/2020 23:58

@Imfinallyhappy1 I agree with @AnneLovesGilbert you seem irrationally angry about something that doesn't affect you in the slightest.

Must be very hard work being so angry over nothing. Confused

MyBlueMoonbeam · 04/04/2020 23:59

I am so not a Royalist but I think that the oldest generation might find some comfort & reassurance seeing her tbh

helgahelga · 04/04/2020 23:59

LOL! Grin

theschoolonthehill · 04/04/2020 23:59

moral leadership and a sense of national unity

She showed her morals when she publicly supported Andrew and as for 'national unity', didn't all the RF flee to their country residences as soon as possible?

Alialialiali · 05/04/2020 00:01

I think most of the working class can really identify with the queen self-isolating in one of her main castles.
I think especially the nhs and other frontline staff will feel much better going in to risk their lives knowing chief granny mumbled some platitudes

bonnieclydesdale · 05/04/2020 00:02

I won't be watching it, whatever she says has no relevance to my life. I'm not concerned about her and she's not concerned about me.

donquixotedelamancha · 05/04/2020 00:10

It's not really the queen, OP. She's clearly been dead for a week.

I'm looking forward to seeing whether they do it with CGI or puppetry.
