Queens speech

Am I the only one who actually couldn’t give a shiny shit what she has to say at this time.

People are dying , everyone is affected so the last thing we need is a rich old woman sitting in her ivory castle asking us to stay calm.

It’s really wound me up, it’s constantly being mentioned on the news!

How can we live in a democratic society if we have an unelected head of state?
Pointless speech, no offer of money. Pathetic but predictable. All written by someone else too.

bobstersmum · 05/04/2020 20:19

I thought it was lovely. Bless her, she's a very old lady, you didn't HAVE to watch it!

ArriettyJones · 05/04/2020 20:19

Angela Kelly is locked down with her. I’m sure she does hair.

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 05/04/2020 20:20

The UK is a monarchy. Why live here if you hate this fact?

What a silly comment

EthelMayFergus · 05/04/2020 20:20

Fair play to her, many people will have taken comfort from her words so what's the harm?

Why wind yourself up by watching it?

I am one of those “would rather have a republic but not until the Queen has left us” types. So I just didn’t watch.

The summary is available to read everywhere. (She was never going to donate private royal cash).

DateLoaf · 05/04/2020 20:23

It made me cry. I’m glad she did it. Was absolutely the right thing for her to do in an unprecedented national and global crisis.

Onesipmore · 05/04/2020 20:25

I love the Queen. We probably won't have a born Queen again in most of our lifetimes. She has been a legend and served the country brilliantly over a long period of time. She is amazing and 94 and many will take comfort from her wise words. If you don't like it/her, walk on by,

Malvinaa81 · 05/04/2020 20:25

It is typical of the sort of person on here to despise The Queen or any national leadership.

But your quinoa recipes and little worries about climate change and women's rights are not going to help in this situation- one the snowflakes amoung you have never faced.

MarshaBradyo · 05/04/2020 20:26

It was a well written speech and she delivered it well. I still would prefer a more egalitarian society however.

She has a lot of good will which may lapse when she goes.

Freddiefox · 05/04/2020 20:26

I missed it. Did she say she was making a large cash donation to help her people?

No she needs all of it for herself. They really need to lead by example. They should be ashamed

LouScot · 05/04/2020 20:26

I'm not a royalist at all (but neither a republican) but I do respect the fact the Queen is determined to serve as well as she can - yes, she has privileges and a charmed life at times, but she can't ever have an off day or be rude. Her last line would surely bring a tear to many a glass eye - we'll meet again.

daisychain01 · 05/04/2020 20:27

I wonder what would have pleased people. Nothing. So many posters have whinged relentlessly about our Monarch not addressing the Nation. It was planned all along that she would make her address at the right time, and that time was this evening at 8pm. And still the whinging, which proves there are people who are embittered, no matter what. Sad.

People have been struggling with the lock-down and she wanted to show empathy and gratitude for the sacrifices people are making, being apart from their loved ones. And to acknowledge all health workers. This was primarily about them. They are saving lives every day, or at least trying to alleviate suffering.

What more could she say, she is herself separated from members of her family. She is human like the rest of us, no matter how much people vilify her. It's sad people cannot set aside the axes that they are compelled to keep grinding, and just come together this one time, rather than being cynical and bitter.

MarshaBradyo · 05/04/2020 20:27

Malvina what are you talking about? Have you faced this before.

Armi · 05/04/2020 20:27

I found it comforting, too.

Some people are just unpleasant for the sake of it.

audreysview · 05/04/2020 20:29

No not a single offer of help. She really does not give a damn. Disgusting.

Accidentalaccountant · 05/04/2020 20:30

She spoke well. They are trying to align it to the war to keep those who lived through the war in.

TwentyViginti · 05/04/2020 20:30

Made me cry. Another piece of future history.

maddiemookins16mum · 05/04/2020 20:30

I actually had a lump in my throat.
If she had not done a speech soon there would have been the same uproar after Diana died with people shouting ‘where is our Queen?’.

awesomeaircraft · 05/04/2020 20:34

YABU. I care and she did a great heartfelt speech.

audreysview · 05/04/2020 20:34

Oh aren’t we unpleasant to find it disgusting that one of the richest women in Britain , (who got rich off the backs of others) has not offered a huge donation to help. I’m appalled at her indifference.

IcedPurple · 05/04/2020 20:36

A massive donation and some of her many empty homes, what else? Confused
