Am I the only one who actually couldn’t give a shiny shit what she has to say at this time.

People are dying , everyone is affected so the last thing we need is a rich old woman sitting in her ivory castle asking us to stay calm.

It’s really wound me up, it’s constantly being mentioned on the news!

Lynda07 I don’t resent anyone for being rich if they’ve earned it. The RF have got their riches off the backs of the working masses. That’s what I resent. Also the fact that the job of head of state isn’t open to anyone other than that family.. It’s a position based purely on the accident of birth, regardless of any merit. It’s wrong on every level.

CendrillonSings · 05/04/2020 10:37

But like I said - the Monarchy is effectively destroying itself. It doesn't need democracy to do that. It is capable of doing it to itself - and that's the best way, personally.

And it’s a crap argument - the same one Marxists use about capitalism collapsing under the weight of its own contradictions in favour of communism. And yet capitalism isn’t going away any time soon.

CendrillonSings · 05/04/2020 10:38

Crazylately

And if you had some kind of discernible skill, I could try guessing your profession too. But as it is... Wink

chomalungma · 05/04/2020 10:40

We need a form of capitalism to survive.

We don't need a Monarchy to survive.

The only speech from the Queen that I'd want to hear is:

"In view of this crisis I have decided to donate 99% of my personal wealth and assets to the government, to support the people who have been supporting me and my family all their lives."

(The remaining 1% would be in excess of £3million - more than enough for her to live a life of ease and comfort beyond the wildest dreams of most of us)

LaurieMarlow · 05/04/2020 10:43

For all those struggling with lockdown right now.

Just imagine how pleasant lockdown could be in a massive country estate. Acres of land, tennis courts and swimming pools, dogs and horses. Staff to look after your every need. No shortages of anything. Confidence in having the very best medical care if you need it.

And then reflect on any notions that ‘we’re all in this together’

LaurieMarlow · 05/04/2020 10:44

Oh and no money worries

yellowbluebell · 05/04/2020 10:44

Well said @LaurieMarlow

19lottie82 · 05/04/2020 10:46

Let’s face it she was damned if she did, damned if she didn’t really, wasn’t she?

audreysview · 05/04/2020 10:47

Why does the queen want to hang on to so much money. She’s got that much it’s practically meaningless to her, just rotting away in the bank. . I believe she’s worth over £365 million. What better cause to put a good chunk of that to good use. Would she rather the people around her drop like flies. Put the money to good use ffs. I really don’t understand why she wouldn’t.

Trichford · 05/04/2020 10:48

Have no interest so simply won't be watching. The whole lot of them are hypocrites who have no real concern for us. As another poster said it's just another box ticked

twinkle2306 · 05/04/2020 10:49

I for one am interested to hear what she will say. There are a multitude of reasons why she has not yet done a public announcement. If you don't want to watch it then simply don't watch it

FaFoutis · 05/04/2020 10:50

She wouldn't see it as her money to do as she likes with, to her sort it belongs to 'the family' - past and future. She is custodian only.

Pelleas · 05/04/2020 10:51

audreysview

Exactly. For a couple of million she could live in a comfortable house and have a minimal number of staff - let's say a cleaner, a gardener, and a housekeeper, and that would still be vastly more luxury than most OAPs have in the UK. It's not going to happen, though, because where would she be without someone to squeeze her toothpaste for her?

audreysview · 05/04/2020 10:53

Yeah custodian of money off the taxpayer. Grin

CendrillonSings · 05/04/2020 10:55

I take it you’ve liquidated all your assets and given them away to coronavirus victims, of course? I’m sure none of us would wish to be a hypocrite.

audreysview · 05/04/2020 10:56

I think greed/the love of money is an awful trait. People come first.

LaurieMarlow · 05/04/2020 10:56

The rich are trained in the art of not spending their capital. It’s drummed into them.

Luckily for the Queen, she has an extensive pot of public money to dip into to ensure she (almost) never needs to.

LaurieMarlow · 05/04/2020 10:59

I take it you’ve liquidated all your assets and given them away to coronavirus victims, of course?

Odds are that the poster in question has very limited assets. Like many, she may be about to take a huge hit in income because of CV.

Suggesting her position is in anyway equivalent to the millionaire Queens is beyond crass.

Pelleas · 05/04/2020 11:00

CendrillonSings

I take it you’ve liquidated all your assets and given them away to coronavirus victims, of course?

I can't speak for others but I only have the 'assets' I am actually using; i.e. the house I live in and its contents.

If I had multiple mansions scattered about the place and vaults full of priceless jewels, you're damn right I would be liquidating them, in fact I'd have done it long ago, because I couldn't sleep at night sitting on piles of unused wealth while others in my country were homeless - let alone what's going on now with the virus.

Imfinallyhappy1 · 05/04/2020 11:01

Sorry, I haven't flounced. I fell asleep.

My posts do come across as angry but I'm not. I'm tired, stressed about finances, trying to work full time at home and homeschool ds and dd who has send and a tailored curriculum.

I'm scared for my job and dh job, I'm scared for my family becoming ill. All these factors together is pretty much what most of the country is feeling.

So for the queen to come in and ask us to stay calm and weather the storm together just takes the piss

But i really hope it does give others comfort and hopefully people will start to actually listen to the guidelines.

Stay home, stay safe and actually protect the nhs.

Clavinova · 05/04/2020 11:04

Lisa Nandy said she would like to abolish the monarchy recently - didn't she come last out of the final three in Labour's leadership contest?

Freddiefox · 05/04/2020 11:04

She wouldn't see it as her money to do as she likes with, to her sort it belongs to 'the family' - past and future. She is custodian only.

This is another example of their lack of leadership and pure selfishness

audreysview · 05/04/2020 11:04

Don’t be ridiculous, no ones said anything about liquidating assets. She’s worth over £365 million ffs. If she gave away £65 million she’d still have £300 million left. it’d be like loose change to her but look at the good it could do. Don’t compare what she has to what the rest of us have,. Apart from that, the money she has hasn’t been earned. Time she gave something back, apart from cutting a few ribbons,

MarshaBradyo · 05/04/2020 11:06

They could just divert the funds from this year from tax payer.

After all the flip side to why they are a good idea isn’t true for a while - tourism.
