Queens speech

Am I the only one who actually couldn’t give a shiny shit what she has to say at this time.

People are dying , everyone is affected so the last thing we need is a rich old woman sitting in her ivory castle asking us to stay calm.

It’s really wound me up, it’s constantly being mentioned on the news!

OP posts:
LaurieMarlow · 05/04/2020 11:09

They could just divert the funds from this year from tax payer.

An excellent idea.

I won’t hold my breath through.

MarshaBradyo · 05/04/2020 11:10

Me either Laurie. HM could absolutely end her speech today on that note.

MarshaBradyo · 05/04/2020 11:13

I’d get a much better sense if we’re in this together if they did rather than hearing about how hard lock down is in a palace and grounds.

Clavinova · 05/04/2020 11:14

"The Royal Family are an incredible force for good when it comes to supporting charities.Royal patronage adds status to an organisation as well as giving them some much needed publicity, but perhaps most importantly it can have a positive effect on donations."

"Charities Aid Foundation research shows that these royal patronages can be vital for charities, with one in eight people saying that the patronage of a member of the royal family makes us more inclined to give money to a charity."

"If you add that to our research from 2012 which showed that charities of which the Queen is patron raised more than £1.4 billion every year, it becomes clear that having a royal name atop one’s charity is a big deal."

"The royals are afforded both a platform and an audience simply because of who they are. We cannot underestimate the impact that has when they use that platform to promote charities. All of a sudden a charity can find itself on the BBC, the Daily Mail, plastered across Twitter–attention that it may not have been able to garner by itself."

"The Prince of Wales, who founded the Prince’s Trust more than 40 years ago, has dedicated much of his life to supporting charitable organisations. The Trust alone has helped over 825,000 young people across the UK since its inception, and quite easily raises upwards of £60 million every year to keep it running."

Oh Clav’s here with the PR drivel.

Great. Wink

Crazylately · 05/04/2020 11:16

@Clavinova Oh look nobody cares that you're still banging the same drum.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 05/04/2020 11:16

I believe the Monarchy will eat itself. It's far better for something to destroy itself rather than be destroyed
The actions of some members are already leading to its slow demise

We can only hope so, but since I place no value on what they say it's not a couple of minutes of queenly platitudes which will irk me - it's the sycophantic claptrap which will almost certainly follow: "Queen rallies the nation", "HM turns it around" and on and on

By the way, what happened to "she can't possibly have cameramen traipsing through the palace while on lockdown" ... ?

Clavinova · 05/04/2020 11:18

Oh Clav’s here with the PR drivel.

I didn't write the blog-

"Kim Roberts is Policy Manager at the Charities Aid Foundation."

derxa · 05/04/2020 11:20

and has done nothing but swan off to Windsor (against travel rules) to make a five minute speech She's 93. What else do you expect her to do?
Honestly?

Catsrus · 05/04/2020 11:21

I've got family members in their 80s and 90's who are in isolation. This will give them a boost so that's a good enough reason for me not to complain - watching isn't compulsory

Clavinova · 05/04/2020 11:21

Oh look nobody cares that you're still banging the same drum

The 'same drum' is the 6 or 7 anti-monarchy threads running on mumsnet surely?

That anti-monarchy organisation someone mentioned on a previous thread still has only 384 donors on its website - hasn't budged an inch in a week.

Wewearpinkonwednesdays · 05/04/2020 11:22

I think you may want to listen to the advice of keep calm OP.

Pelleas · 05/04/2020 11:23

She's 93. What else do you expect her to do?

Donate some of her wealth and assets to help the country that has spent 93 years funding her fantastically privileged life.

LaurieMarlow · 05/04/2020 11:23

She's 93.

What about her fit, healthy, 38 year old grandson, who’s heir to the throne. With his sick father and old grandmother, why is he not stepping up?

But yes, he fucked off to Norfolk sit on his arse.

MigginsMrs · 05/04/2020 11:24

I like the Queen and the royal family in general but I’m struggling to see what someone in her position whose life is adversely impacted in no way whatsoever by the pandemic can actually say that’s of any interest or comfort to anyone

CendrillonSings · 05/04/2020 11:25

I can't speak for others but I only have the 'assets' I am actually using; i.e. the house I live in and its contents.

If I had multiple mansions scattered about the place and vaults full of priceless jewels, you're damn right I would be liquidating them, in fact I'd have done it long ago, because I couldn't sleep at night sitting on piles of unused wealth while others in my country were homeless - let alone what's going on now with the virus.

And yet to a homeless person in the street during the pandemic, you with your comfortable house are as rich as the Queen with all her mansions is to you.

All I’m saying is don’t be a hypocrite. It’s the easiest thing in the world to tell other people to give away their possessions, yet somehow impossibly hard to part with your own...

CendrillonSings · 05/04/2020 11:26

The 'same drum' is the 6 or 7 anti-monarchy threads running on mumsnet surely?

Apparently they think threads on Mumsnet mean more than General Elections Grin

MarshaBradyo · 05/04/2020 11:27

But yes, he fucked off to Norfolk sit on his arse
This made me laugh.
A few Instagram posts and it’s hard here and job done.

LaurieMarlow · 05/04/2020 11:28

It’s the easiest thing in the world to tell other people to give away their possessions, yet somehow impossibly hard to part with your own.

I getting embarrassed for you now.

You’re comparing an ordinary person in the midst of the biggest financial crisis we’ve ever experienced with a publically funded millionaire who is also privately wealthy beyond any of our wildest dreams.

Can’t you see how crass your point is?

derxa · 05/04/2020 11:30

What about Yeah whataboutery.
Prince William getting CV will do no one any good. He has protection officers. Why the hell should they and their families be put in danger?

audreysview · 05/04/2020 11:32

Let’s face it she was damned if she did, damned if she didn’t really, wasn’t she

Yes and rightly so. That’s because the whole concept of a “ royal family” is wrong. As long as we have one they’ll be damned.

Mittens030869 · 05/04/2020 11:32

The 'same drum' is the 6 or 7 anti-monarchy threads running on mumsnet surely?

'Apparently they think threads on Mumsnet mean more than General Elections'

This. If that were really true, Remain votes would have won the referendum with a landslide. In reality that didn't happen, did it? (I voted Remain as well, btw.)

BurneyFanny · 05/04/2020 11:32

Why is Charles risking his servants’ lives rather than putting toothpaste on his own toothbrush ?

LaurieMarlow · 05/04/2020 11:32

Prince William getting CV will do no one any good

Whose saying he should be getting CV. Confused

There are loads things he could be doing without putting himself in danger.

Pelleas · 05/04/2020 11:32

And yet to a homeless person in the street during the pandemic, you with your comfortable house are as rich as the Queen with all her mansions is to you.

I realise that, but there would be no overall gain if I were to give my small house to a homeless person, only to make myself homeless.

However, the properties owned by the Royals, which are not only enormous but often sitting empty, could house numerous homeless people.
