Queens speech

Am I the only one who actually couldn’t give a shiny shit what she has to say at this time.

People are dying , everyone is affected so the last thing we need is a rich old woman sitting in her ivory castle asking us to stay calm.

It’s really wound me up, it’s constantly being mentioned on the news!

Agreed. Completely.

Gilead · 04/04/2020 23:06

I’m with you. Pees me off no end!

Applejaxx · 04/04/2020 23:07

Me too. I can't see what good it will do?

AlexaShutUp · 04/04/2020 23:07

Has she done it already? I'm not really bothered either, but if it provides comfort to others, then I'm all in favour. I just hope that she didn't put herself at risk in recording it, as she is very elderly and should be shielding.

screwcovid19 · 04/04/2020 23:08

Don't watch it then 👍🏻

yestonodressyet · 04/04/2020 23:08

I think for the older generations who put a lot of stock in her will find some comfort from her speech, so it may not do anything for us but some for it might and at the end of the day it does no harm does it

Quickquestion2020 · 04/04/2020 23:09

Long overdue. Couldn't care less now.
If she'd come on when we were still trying to encourage our older generation to stay home and appealed to them and said she was also isolating and having people drop her asda shopping outside her door then I'd have been interested but it's kinda like when they finally acknowledged Diana's death, totally meaningless once we've had to ask for it.

StrawberryJam200 · 04/04/2020 23:09

But you must know that many many people still look to her for moral leadership and a sense of national unity, particularly older generations.

Imfinallyhappy1 · 04/04/2020 23:10

@screwcovid19 ok lol

“Hello, this is the Queen.
One is very concerned about the current situation in one’s country, but sadly one is dismayed at some of the unfortunate behaviour one is seeing.
As many of you have not listened to the advice of one’s scientific experts, one is now telling you oneself.
Stop being idiots and stay at home or one will have you thrown in the tower.
One has told one’s government to sort their fucking lives out and get a grip of the situation or one will have their heads on spikes outside one’s castle.
Good evening.”

Mummyshark2019 · 04/04/2020 23:12

She only did it because people were questioning why Charles addressed the nation last week and not her ....another meaningless tick box exercise.

WeakAndWeary · 04/04/2020 23:12

The marvellous thing about having so many channels is that you don’t actually have to watch whichever one she’s on if it’s going to traumatise you. Turn over. Watch GMTV reruns or something. You’ll make it through the ten minutes unscarred.

480Widdio · 04/04/2020 23:12

Not interested in what she has to say.

Her idiot of a son flew the length of the country, after testing positive for the virus.

Only thing I would be interested in is the end of the Monarchy.

malmi · 04/04/2020 23:12

Obviously in this situation she can't win, but personally I think it's better for her to acknowledge the situation by making an address than not to. She is the head of state and this is a national emergency. This is the kind of thing that should happen to ensure people realise it is serious.

pleasepleasepleasehelp · 04/04/2020 23:12

@Imfinallyhappy1 So don't watch it then. Not rocket science is it?!

You obviously care enough to start a thread about it! Wink

Imfinallyhappy1 · 04/04/2020 23:12

@Quickquestion2020 I agree, absolutely if she came done it at the beginning like you say, then it would of been great. Except she’s doing it now a few weeks into it and apparently urging us to stay calm.

That’s what’s riling me.

I won’t be watching it obviously 🙄 but just knowing it’s being down is annoying me regardless.

OP posts:
GoFiguire · 04/04/2020 23:13

I agree with you OP. The way it has been pitched as “lifting our spirits” is patronising to say the least.

Maybe I’m on my own here but I love the Queen. I will be watching her speech tomorrow and I know I will feel better for it. (And I’m 40yrs old just for the record) I think she’s amazing.

Crunchymum · 04/04/2020 23:16

Its already been recorded and I believe it's already been "leaked'? I am sure I caught a snippet of the content on Sky News earlier?

Its just to show face, serves no real purpose and I won't be watching.

starrynight19 · 04/04/2020 23:22

I am surprised it hasn’t happened before now. But I think many people will tune in tomorrow.
Especially those who don’t have access to social media etc this will be very important to them.
For those who aren’t interested they can just switch over surely Hmm

indemMUND · 04/04/2020 23:22

Historically, she needs to address her subjects when the shit hits the fan.
But it's not the first time she's a bit bloody late in doing so.
Makes that divide feel even wider. And the monarchy continues to show its lack of relevance in present day and age. Dropping the ball the way her betters wouldn't have done.

Imfinallyhappy1 · 04/04/2020 23:22

Absolutely patronising. She won’t be worrying about her wages being enough to cover the basics like food, mortgage or utilities.

OP posts:
Crunched · 04/04/2020 23:25

I think my MIL and DM, both elderly, will watch it and will get a sense of security from seeing her somehow. They don’t have social media and the various tech that most of us have now, so this is something directly for them.

LiquoricePickle · 04/04/2020 23:26

I'm glad she's doing it.
