To ask if you have booked a summer holiday in this county, are you expecting to go?

Just what really. We have a week booked at a caravan park for the last week in July. We are obviously in lockdown for Easter which has been a difficult thing for my dds to accept, but they are very understanding as to why. My eldest keeps saying 'at least we have our summer holiday to look forward to.' I keep making noncommittal 'mmm' noises. I'm wondering if I should prepare her for the fact that we might not get to go? If you have booked a similar holiday for this summer, are you hopeful it will go ahead?

We're booked for similar at the end of June and have had to have a chat with the DC about the possibility of it being cancelled as they kept saying at least we had it to look forward to.

I've told then that hopefully it will go ahead but there's a chance it won't. I explain that if it doesn't then we can either re-book the same place for different dates, get our money back and book for somewhere else on different dates or gets the money back and use it to do some really nice things once we're able to such as some big days out.

We had booked to go to Disney World on 22nd March which we got moved to June 16th with the restrictions preventing us to go. I doubht we will be able to fly at that point but fortunately TUI have said anyone booked to go upto June 30th can amend it so when its nearer the time I will try and re book for next Summer though it will cost a lot more of course :( Im just not optimistic that we could go this summer and with the additional cost we couldn't afford it in time either.

Whatsername177 · 02/04/2020 19:41

Perfect, if it makes you feel any better, we went last July and the heat and humidity were unbearable at that time of year. I hope you get to rebook next year at a reasonable price.

Haven't booked anything but we have a touring caravan so can take advantage if restrictions are lifted, wherever that may be .

TeenPlusTwenties · 02/04/2020 19:44

Hoping but not necessarily expecting.

Crispyturtle · 02/04/2020 19:44

We’re booked to go to a caravan park in Cornwall at the start of July, I don’t think we’ll be going.

I’m more optimistic for the s/c house we’ve got booked with my family at the end of August. Just keeping everything crossed that we’ll all be here to enjoy another holiday together.

welldonejean · 02/04/2020 19:46

Sept and even then I don’t think we’ll be able to go

blackteaplease · 02/04/2020 19:47

We have 2 weeks in Scotland booked at the end of July and I'm doubtful that we will be able to go.

itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted · 02/04/2020 19:52

A week on the south coast in July - expecting to go.

If lockdown and social distancing is still in place in July we are all fucked

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 02/04/2020 19:53

We have a holiday in Cornwall booked in July. Honestly? I'm expecting to go.

I think covid deaths will peak in a couple of weeks, and that over the next month there will be a rise in testing which will show that:
A) new cases are plateauing
B) far more people have already had it with mild/no symptoms than expected.

Beyond that, I expect another month or so of restrictions then a relaxation of rules from maybe mid June.

MsVestibule · 02/04/2020 19:53

Mid-August and we've told the DCs that we'll just have to wait and see what happens. No point in them getting excited about it if it might not happen. But they're 11 and 13, so old enough to understand - it might be different with younger children.

GU24Mum · 02/04/2020 19:55

We've got a family weekend in Devon in mid-July and I'm cautiously hopeful that we'll be able to go though not sure my parents will be able to come with us. We're then due to go camping in France at the end of August and I think there's a reasonable chance for that too. I wouldn't rate my chances for going anywhere much more exotic though.

Fcukthisshit · 02/04/2020 19:56

Our May holiday has been cancelled. We are booked for September but in all honesty I’m not hopeful. I think most of this year will be written off.

namechangenumber2 · 02/04/2020 19:57

Nothing booked here. We were meant to be booking a France trip but didn't get round to it. DS asked the other day if we could have a few days in Alton Towers instead, I'm not feeling too hopeful so I gave a half committed nod to it! I like the idea of it, just can't see the country being in the position to go

VideographybyLouBloom · 02/04/2020 19:58

We’ve booked to go to Cornwall at the beginning of August but I’m not that hopeful of us actually going. I’m trying to be optimistic but we have warned DDs that it might not be possible.

MT2017 · 02/04/2020 19:59

We booked to go away after the exam dates in August as one Y11 and one Y13 (laughs hollowly).

We think:

A) we'll go or
B) it'll be moved to next year or
C) it'll be refunded

Who knows which one...🤷‍♀️

ClashCityRocker · 02/04/2020 19:59

We're booked on uk holidays mid July and September. I'm fingers crossed for July cautiously hopeful for September.

Have already written a break at the end of May. Even if lockdown ends, I don't think travelling would be a good idea.

PumpkinPie2016 · 02/04/2020 19:59

We have a holiday cottage booked in the lakes in mid August.

I am hoping we can go but trying to keep in mind that we may not be able to.

WhenYouveAFirstInEnglish · 02/04/2020 20:01

First week in August and I do think we will go.

Camping in May half term, probably not

NemophilistRebel · 02/04/2020 20:02

No, I wouldn’t

I’d feel very lucky if I could go from September onwards

Arrowfanatic · 02/04/2020 20:03

My daughter has a school residential in June and I've told her to expect not to go on that.

Our big, family, 1st holiday abroad is booked for Portugal in August 2021 so I'm hopeful this will be sorted by then. Now to hope my holiday company doesn't go under in the meantime.

IggyAce · 02/04/2020 20:03

We have a caravan booked for early August, I’m hopeful we will be able to go.

PositiveLife · 02/04/2020 20:11

I have 2 weeks booked off work in August but haven't actually booked the holiday. We'll just wait and see. Fully prepared that it might not happen.

1981m · 02/04/2020 20:17

We cancelled our summer holiday to California. I am hoping we can book a cheap one in August when hopefully this is over. I expect there will be loads of great deals around.

VioletCharlotte · 02/04/2020 20:23

There's lots of optimism on this thread. I hope you're all right. My feeling is this will be going on for at least 6 months. I'm not expecting my September weekend away to happen.
