To ask if you have booked a summer holiday in this county, are you expecting to go?

Just what really. We have a week booked at a caravan park for the last week in July. We are obviously in lockdown for Easter which has been a difficult thing for my dds to accept, but they are very understanding as to why. My eldest keeps saying 'at least we have our summer holiday to look forward to.' I keep making noncommittal 'mmm' noises. I'm wondering if I should prepare her for the fact that we might not get to go? If you have booked a similar holiday for this summer, are you hopeful it will go ahead?

We are to fly to UAE then Onto Asia in July and will be back in the UK at the end of August. I expect we will go but who knows. July is a long way away.

CaffeineInfusion · 02/04/2020 21:38

Camping in July. We won't be going.

If we had booked a caravan I probably would. But with sharing washing and toilet facilities on the site? No.

Friolero · 02/04/2020 21:39

I’ve got a holiday booked abroad for May half term which I’m sure will be cancelled, and a holiday in the UK in August which I’m hopeful we might still be able to go on but we’ll see.

Stopyourhavering64 · 02/04/2020 21:44

Maldives booked for end of September....not holding out much hope tbh

mrsdolittle · 02/04/2020 21:48

Booked for a week self catering in Scotland mid July. Doubtful we will be able to go but haven't given up hope yet.

If we can't go will transfer to same week next year

SlinkyDogg · 02/04/2020 21:51

I haven't booked anything yet for the summer but I really fancy one of those Princess cruise ship jobbies, looks like good deals available too.

Ohdeariedear · 02/04/2020 21:53

We’re mid July. I’m 75/25 on not going/going. We’ll be able to move it to next year though if we can’t go this year.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 02/04/2020 21:56

I was supposed to be away this week - a farm that I go to a few times a year. The owner sent me a photo of new born lambs I'd missed Sad.

Tempted to book now for later in the year - at least I'll have a slot if things loosen up; if not cancel and carry forward again.

Littlepond · 02/04/2020 22:07

We’ve booked Scotland for August. I’m assuming we won’t go.

Loire02 · 02/04/2020 22:08

We’ve had Venice c/x last weekend. France end of this month, will be c/x
Canaries next month most likely c/x June Naples, will be c/x
July Tenerife will be c/x hoping Greece Sept may still be on not holding out to much hope.
Lucky if we get Tenerife in November.
Up side if we get through this Unscathed, we will a few grand coming back to our bank acc.

Rather miss all breaks and live in isolation knowing us and our family and friends are ok.

Echobelly · 02/04/2020 22:15

Not a holiday for all of us, but I am still paying installments for DD to go to a 10-day residential camp at end of July that is a few hours away. I suspect it's not going to happen - I think things may be improved but there will still ne restrictions on moving around the country depending on where is worst affected at the time, and they may not want large gatherings like that to happen or the camp may not want/be able to deal with potentially sending kids home of they fall ill.

We have flights to NY booked for a US holiday in August but I think our airline is going to go under before then anyway (I can claim money back off Barclaycard). DH still thinks we'll make it, but I very much doubt it.

Mummyshark2019 · 02/04/2020 22:22

I think this whole year will be written off. We were hoping to go away in August but it won't happen. 2021 it will have to be, if we get through covid.

Dieu · 02/04/2020 22:30

I'm booked to go to Greece at the start of July.
I take it holidays abroad won't be going ahead at that point? 😬

MaryShelley1818 · 02/04/2020 22:34

We lost our trip to Barcelona last weekend, and will obviously not be going to Holland in May.
We have a week off booked in early July where we hope to be able to go somewhere for a few days in this country, maybe take DS to the zoo etc

Then 50/50 on whether we'll get to Portugal (end of September), Barcelona (moved to late October from last week) and CenterParcs in December.

Genie7910 · 02/04/2020 22:50

We were meant to be travelling this weekend for our first big family holiday. Cancelled for now, hopefully we'll get there one day. We also have a holiday in Wales booked towards the end of August. It's fully refundable, so we're sitting tight for now. If the situation is still even slightly bad by then, we won't be going. I'd happily cancel now,but DH wants to hold on a bit longer.

Frankly, if we're able to go out and about as normal (or near to) where we live by then, that'll feel like a holiday anyway!

Shodan · 02/04/2020 22:55

One week to Salou for the end of April is cancelled obviously, but I'm not so fussed about that one as my friend and I can go whenever it's ok to travel again.

We have our family holiday booked in mid July, in Wales. I'd like to think we'll be able to go but honestly, even if we can travel there, I'm doubtful whether the restaurants/attractions etc I wanted to take my boys to will be open.

However, my policy has always been to hope for the best but prepare for the worst, so I will still hope.

cafesandbookshops · 02/04/2020 22:59

I really hope flights will be going ahead in July...not for vacations but I'll be ending my work contract then and was planning on moving back to the UK after a looong time abroad. I've already booked the flight and my visa will expire on that day too :/

SlipperyLizard · 02/04/2020 23:04

This is the first year we’ve booked anything other than camping in August.

If we can’t go on UK holidays by then, my view is that the whole country will have far bigger problems to worry about, and a missed holiday will be the least of our worries.

So I guess I’m quietly hopeful we will go, cos the alternative is simply unthinkable.

MyBlueMoonbeam · 02/04/2020 23:04

How anyone can think we will go from lockdown in April to jolly holidays in July is beyond me 😳
There is a likelihood of further extensions and tighter restrictions - burying heads in the sand does nobody any good - it's an awful time and we need to be realistic in our expectations IMO 😞

NemophilistRebel · 02/04/2020 23:44

I wonder the same moonbeam but I guess some people need to keep positive head on

Wheresthebeach · 02/04/2020 23:52

I’m hoping for relaxing of restrictions in the summer, then more lockdown in the winter when the flu season hits. If I think that this is going to be life til next spring then I really wouldn’t cope. I need some hope that it will be up and down, not all down.

Yester · 02/04/2020 23:52

Maybe in 2021 if we're lucky.

MissDollyMix · 02/04/2020 23:57

Interesting... we have 2 weeks s/c booked in Scotland for the latter half of july. Have to pay the balance by the beginning of May so I’m holding off any decision until then. My gut instinct is that we won’t be able to go but apparently I’m the only one in my family who thinks that (and dh is normally a negative nelly) It’s a minuscule problem in the scheme of things but our summer holiday ended up being ruined last summer by flight cock ups and the summer before was spent in ICU with my very poorly husband! I do wonder if our summer holidays are cursed!

Ellmau · 02/04/2020 23:58

Not expecting, but hoping with tightly crossed fingers.

blue25 · 02/04/2020 23:59

Not expecting to go on our UK holiday in July. I’m not sure I even want to go anyway as Cornwall gets so crowded that I’ll be worried about catching the virus and will just find it stressful.
