To ask if you have booked a summer holiday in this county, are you expecting to go?

Just what really. We have a week booked at a caravan park for the last week in July. We are obviously in lockdown for Easter which has been a difficult thing for my dds to accept, but they are very understanding as to why. My eldest keeps saying 'at least we have our summer holiday to look forward to.' I keep making noncommittal 'mmm' noises. I'm wondering if I should prepare her for the fact that we might not get to go? If you have booked a similar holiday for this summer, are you hopeful it will go ahead?

I cancelled a holiday this April (obviously) got one in August (both UK) not cancelled. Will have to wait and see. Kids have been really good about it so far.

Redyoyo · 03/04/2020 00:06

We have the lakes booked for June and Majorca booked for September/October even if restrictions are lifed i don't want to go I'd rather stay at home this year now.

Muddlingalongalone · 03/04/2020 00:09

We're booked for last week of August to go to Jersey. I'm hopeful that we will still be able to go but whenever this children talk about it I'm already making it if we go rather than when.

Casino218 · 03/04/2020 00:15

Mid August. Cornwall but I'm not massively hopeful. I think some sort of tight measures will go on for 6 months. ( That's what I've been told by a friend who's on the crisis planning team) Hopefully I will secure an antibody test before then and that can act as our passport.

Wehttam · 03/04/2020 00:20

My advice is not to book anything for the rest of the year. You’re all in dreamworld if you think for one second this lockdown will be over by the summer. Expect it to go on until September at least.

bridgetreilly · 03/04/2020 00:27

Devon, mid-July. I am hopeful but not confident. I'll be really gutted if I can't go, though. I've been looking forward to this for ages.

flumposie · 03/04/2020 01:04

London booked for the end of August. Will wait and see.

Belledan1 · 03/04/2020 04:49

Booked to go first week of holidays Doubtful will go. We normally go Aug bank hol week but work restricted it this year. Booked last November so never had a clue then.

Ferfooksake · 03/04/2020 06:46

I’ve booked a lodge for beginning of August. Not sure if it’ll go ahead. I expect people won’t be able to go abroad for at least a year though but I never go abroad anyway

Apolloanddaphne · 03/04/2020 06:49

We have a camper van booked for the first week in June. We reckon we won't be going.

MrsJonesAndMe · 03/04/2020 07:04

One week as soon as the schools break up (end of July). I'm hopeful, but think it's 50/50 as to whether we will or we won't Sad

MrsJonesAndMe · 03/04/2020 07:09

@Echobelly our school told us to stop paying for PGL at the moment. I've kept March's payment to one side and will do the same with April too.

coldwarenigma · 03/04/2020 07:24

We have a touring caravan, and no school aged kids so usually go out of school holidays. Planned early June, early July and October holidays but fortunately hadn't paid for sites yet. I'm holding off until I know. I may have to go to 'the Drive' Grin

Whatsername177 · 03/04/2020 07:27

Thanks all. A lot more mixed than I thought. I guess there is a way to go until July. I dunno. It is so tough.

We moved our holiday from early may to mid June when this first broke but we've already told the kids it's cancelled as they kept talking about everything they would do there so I felt they would be more disappointed the closer it got.

The holiday provider says closer to the time we can either move the date or get a full refund if restrictions still in place, but I imagine dates later in summer will be too expensive for us. I do have insurance so am thinking we may just cancel through them closer to the time. Will try to get away for a long weekend in the autumn, but depends on prices.

JamMakingWannaBe · 03/04/2020 07:36

We live in Scotland. My parents live on the South coast of England.

Large family meetup for Mum's 70th in May cancelled.

DD and I are due to fly down again in August before a static caravan holiday in the north of Scotland later that month (we'll drive and self cater). Still hopefull we'll do both.

CheriLittlebottom · 03/04/2020 07:41

Centre parcs booked for early may, expect to have to move to later on in the year, but who knows when?

CheshireDing · 03/04/2020 07:44

We have tickets for Green Man in August with the children, I am not convinced it will be going ahead at the minute.

We were due to go to Grasmere next week, had to cancel that, childrn gutted but I have said as we only live about 90 mins away ta easy enough for us to go once things are back to normal.

inflam · 03/04/2020 07:47

I cancelled my Haven booking for June just the other day. Even if restrictions are lifted it is far too soon for me to be having a holiday.

donquixotedelamancha · 03/04/2020 07:51

Caravan park in August. Obviously we aren't going.

MigGril · 03/04/2020 07:53

We have a weeks holiday booked near York in July, haven't paid the balance yet expect it to be cancelled. DD was supposed to be going to France with scouts in August, it's all paid for. I expect them to put it off till next year, it's not a trip they do every year.

Even if we're not in total lock down in the summer, which I don't expect. I still think we'll have resirctions on movement and gatherings. You can't have total lock down then let go completely, you just got another big peak then. The idea being not to overwhelm the health service.

pumpkinpie01 · 03/04/2020 08:09

We have a haven holiday booked for next month , the caravan owner says the site will be open then but I really can't see that. We also have a house booked in Devon for middle of August, we are presuming/hoping that will still happen.

frumpety · 03/04/2020 08:11

Week booked in the UK end of May , can't see it happening as things stand. Week at the beginning of September in the UK, not getting my hopes up. Can't move either to any other time this year, so if they don't happen, that means no holidays at all this year. But better alive and disappointed than the alternative Smile

beautifulteeth · 03/04/2020 08:17

Yes week in Somerset first week of September..

Hope we can still go

Yellredder · 03/04/2020 08:18

We've a week booked at Spring Bank and two weeks booked at the beginning of August and don't think either will be going ahead.
