To ask if you have booked a summer holiday in this county, are you expecting to go?

Just what really. We have a week booked at a caravan park for the last week in July. We are obviously in lockdown for Easter which has been a difficult thing for my dds to accept, but they are very understanding as to why. My eldest keeps saying 'at least we have our summer holiday to look forward to.' I keep making noncommittal 'mmm' noises. I'm wondering if I should prepare her for the fact that we might not get to go? If you have booked a similar holiday for this summer, are you hopeful it will go ahead?

Booked for july in cornwall. Expecting not to go as feel it would be irresponsible :(

We have a wedding in France at the beginning of September which if they’re going to cancel they probably need to look at doing it sooner rather than later! But I’m still quite hopeful we will get to go away then.

I think if we have the peak in a couple of weeks and they ramp up testing, we will be in lockdown until June and they’ll start lifting restrictions from July. So much has changed in the last couple of weeks, and summer is a long way off yet.

TheGoogleMum · 03/04/2020 08:31

It's tricky isn't it? I think it's safe to assume pre June is a no go but July is hard to say. We rescheduled our March weekend away to the end of September so hoping we'll be able to go then

rookiemere · 03/04/2020 08:33

I think a lot depends on if they can get a reliable inexpensive test for people to check if they've had it or not - if that's manufactured and out in the next few weeks, that could make a big difference to how this is managed.

I'm fairly convinced our household has had it. If we could pay ( not crazy money ) to confirm that and others could as well, then they could start easing restrictions for some of the population.

We're due to go to France late July to stay at a relative's holiday home. It's a stand alone house in a rural location so am hopeful we will go but obviously depends upon restrictions being relaxed/lifted and the flights running. Too early to say I reckon but would hope we could at least holiday in the UK by then.

Cornwall only had one hospital with a very limited amount of beds. I think they will be hoping that there isn't the usual mass migration to the coast!

WelcomeToShootingStars · 03/04/2020 09:24

We've got a cottage booked at the end of August in Cornwall and I'm not expecting to be going.

Oldraver · 03/04/2020 14:59

End of July booked, not expecting to go

okiedokieme · 03/04/2020 15:08

Yes, haven't actually booked as staying with family but am sure we will go, perhaps just delayed a month or so. Also hoping for an incredibly good deal on a cruiseGrin Disclaimer: we have both been sick for 2 weeks with symptoms, went back to work today (him) so really hoping when the antibody test comes online I will be immune

EdersonsSmileyTattoo · 03/04/2020 15:08

We’re meant to be going to Milan on the 29th April, obviously that’s not happening! We’re hoping to swap the booking to go to Amsterdam at October half term, fingers crossed!

Summer holiday, we go to PIL’s apartment in Spain for 2/3 weeks, we’re due to fly 1st August and we’ve broached the subject to DS about the possibility of not going but we just need to wait and see.

If we can’t go in August we’ll see where we are in December and might go away for Christmas.

Just have to wait and see!

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 03/04/2020 15:10

We're booked to go to Portugal the end of August but I've resigned myself to the fact we won't be going. And I think anyone who thinks the travel restrictions will be lifted by then are being far too optimistic unfortunately. I am a pessimist though!

Rockbird · 03/04/2020 15:15

Cornwall at Easter. Not going. Ireland at half term. Not going. Isle of Wight in August. Debatable. Cornwall in October. Possibly.

That's about as definite as I can get!

w00dlander · 03/04/2020 15:21

Was going to Wales on Good Friday and obviously that's cancelled. I rebooked for October half term.

Another week booked in Devon for the last week of the summer holidays. Cottage owner has emailed offering refund or rebook for next year now or to wait and see and still get a refund if it can't go ahead. I've said we will keep the booking and see - August is a long time away and I'm hopeful.

If lockdown lifts we will do a couple of weekends away in a Premier Inn to scratch the itch to see the sea.

I'm very glad we only usually go on holiday in the UK.

Spamellahamella · 03/04/2020 15:28

Middle of July and we all think unlikely. Have also got a surprise weekend to London booked for eldest's birthday at the end of August and we really hoping that might happen

Bella2020 · 03/04/2020 16:44

We're booked for the 2nd week in September and I'm hopeful it will go ahead. I have to be. I'm disabled and this lockdown life is nothing new to me, so I really look forward to our week away.

TrickyKid · 03/04/2020 16:52

Booked for last two weeks in Aug and have prewarned the kids there's a good chance we won't be going.

okletsdothis · 03/04/2020 17:33

Booked for Cornwall in July, like quite a few others here, and I am fairly optimistic about it.

Wheresthebeach · 03/04/2020 18:12

I think foreign travel unlikely until a vaccine is available. Nobody is going to want to get stuck overseas but hoping UK travel will be okay in the summer. The economic consequences of full lockdown til next spring would be dire. I’m hoping relaxing during summer, then back to lockdown in flu season.

cactus2020 · 03/04/2020 18:31

Lake District in August. Big decision point will be mid-June when the balance is due.

Healthyandhappy · 03/04/2020 19:11

Booked in August however its seaside and tbh I'm.not fussed. Money saved will go towards next years

GeraldTippett · 03/04/2020 19:26

Booked to go to NZ for a month at the beginning of December. Even if we're allowed out of the UK and NZ lets is in, I have grave concerns that my booked flights will no longer exist. I think many airlines will go bust and those that survive will cancel most existing flights. The cost of the new flights will be far higher than we can pay

MarginalGain · 03/04/2020 19:29

I'll go anywhere that will have us as soon as anything is open, but nothing currently booked.
