What is the correct term for circular square sausage?

Also - what difference does the shape of it make?

I prefer the circular kind although the rectangular kind is acceptable, too.

On the east coast it’s called Lorne, and it’s also Scottish, not Scots 😉

TheMustressMhor · 27/03/2020 11:31

Ah - but the shape distinction is what I am asking.

Nobody seems to call it round sausage.

Eh what’s a circular square sausage?Confused

Square ones are Lorne and normal other sausages are link

TheMustressMhor · 27/03/2020 11:38

I live on the West Coast and our butcher makes square sausage. He also makes it circular. It is the same recipe though.

"Scots" is interchangeable with "Scottish", according to the Free Dictionary.

It is Scotch that is wrong, not Scots I think.

On the east coast we always call it Lorne sausage regardless of shape.

Snoopy1612 · 27/03/2020 11:44

Round sausage as opposed to a link sausage

Likethebattle · 27/03/2020 11:47

Scots is fine, Scotch is bloody not fine!

Apolloanddaphne · 27/03/2020 11:48

Square sausage can also be called Glasgow (or Glesga as my colleague calls it) sausage. Maybe that would be helpful for the circular sort?

FunicularVictorian · 27/03/2020 11:49

Lorne

PineappleDanish · 27/03/2020 11:50

I'd call it square sausage whatever the shape.

Don't think i've ever seen flat round ones mind you.

AWintersBall · 27/03/2020 11:51

Lorne or square. I've never seen it in a circular shape! Shock

LouScot · 27/03/2020 11:51

Square sausage? Sliced sausage? That's all I call it (I know people call it Lorne but not here - East coast). And I've never seen a round square sausage Grin

Belindabelle · 27/03/2020 11:52

We call square sliced sausage Lorne
We call round sliced sausage Slice

ssd · 27/03/2020 11:52

Roon!

Likethebattle · 27/03/2020 11:52

We call it ‘slice’ so round could be calked slice sausage and would fit in a roll better.

dementedpixie · 27/03/2020 11:54

Is the circular one not pork rather than steak/beef?

dementedpixie · 27/03/2020 11:57

Round slice - pork
Square/Lorne sausage - steak or beef

Horrible things, no matter what their shape, flat sausage or lorne?

dementedpixie · 27/03/2020 12:00

Yummy in a roll with fried potato scone

Ginkypig · 27/03/2020 12:06

Square sausage
Lorne sausage
Sliced sausage

All are common names but as for your specific enquiry the round one are indeed a rarer breed but I'd still probably call them one of the the 2nd two.

Oh and scots or a scot is ok scotch or scotty is never ok but I don't speak for all of Scottish society!

Isadora2007 · 27/03/2020 12:07

Slice sausage anyway here so it can be any shape it likes.

Isadora2007 · 27/03/2020 12:09

Sliced. Not slice sorry

zukiecat · 27/03/2020 12:09

Aberdonian here, and most of us call it Lorne Sausage.

We most definitely are not Scotch though Scots or Scottish is fine

CrazyCatMamma · 27/03/2020 12:10

Flat sausage

iklboo · 27/03/2020 12:14

Scots is fine, Scotch is bloody not fine!

Unless it's a single malt Wink
