No Daily Mail, the young Royals did not lead the clapping last night

They took part.
Just like every other citizen of the UK did
They did not start it.

I know, I know, bigger things to think about and all.

But it has raised the Republican in me to see headlines saying "The clapping was led by the Royal cuties"

We were all part of it. It just started on our street.

My MIL was regularly walking to the local shops to get her newspaper at 93. Since then, her health has gone downhill. She has also had a significantly harder life than her Majesty. Well she was lucky wasn't she, most 93 year olds aren't terribly mobile. I daresay you MIL wasn't expected to entertain people like Trump or sit through boring things she had no interest in. Swings and roundabouts, I wouldn't want the Queen's life. I like my freedom too much.

BlackeyedSusan · 27/03/2020 10:53

nah, round here it was the bloke from the socialist workers party who was either leader or loudest.

derxa · 27/03/2020 10:53

Why cant they sign up as NHS volunteers? Deliver medicine, take people to hospital, cook and deliver meals? And I dont mean for an hour or two as PR, I mean as a regular duty until the pandemic is over. Is that what you're doing? Or are you sitting on your arse Mnetting just like me?

1forsorrow · 27/03/2020 10:54

Wolfgirrl and do it quietly without making a song and dance about it. You do realise that if they do it quietly without making a song and dance about it then you probably won't know they are doing it?

lowlandLucky · 27/03/2020 10:56

Imacneil003 How do you know the Queen didnt get off her 92 year old arse to applaud ?

CendrillonSings · 27/03/2020 10:56

You do realise that if they do it quietly without making a song and dance about it then you probably won't know they are doing it?

And then people will continue to whine about why they aren’t doing it...Wink

Alialialiali · 27/03/2020 10:57

@NcFortuna
Actually it was me that led the clapping because I started by accident at 19:53.
lmao. No it was me. I accidentally put the clocks forward on Sunday, been leading everthing.

Wolfgirrl · 27/03/2020 10:57

@derxa I am high risk and chronically ill but have dropped supplies to those in need (people I dont know) and put out a message in my local community that I am happy to cook meals and deliver them to peoples doors, or prepare food packages if necessary. I like to think I am doing as much as I can given my health problems Smile

Enko · 27/03/2020 10:58

@GenxfeellikeaBoomer
Yeh, a distinction a monarchist wouldnt notice but what you say is true.

Even as a Monachist I am capable of critical thinking. That may come as a shock to you. I also know not to take anything the Daily Fail says for gospel truth.

Wolfgirrl · 27/03/2020 10:58

@1forsorrow

I didnt say they should do it quietly. Personally I think a live stream would be a great way of showing they are actually doing something.

It's the old damned if they do/dont that royalists pull out every time to justify laziness...

derxa · 27/03/2020 10:59

Well then, let's release them from their terrible lives of servitude!

Ponoka7 · 27/03/2020 11:02

"Why cant they sign up as NHS volunteers? Deliver medicine, take people to hospital, cook and deliver meals?"

Because the press wouldn't leave them alone and it would be a security nightmare. Everyone else involved doesn't need that.

Wolfgirrl · 27/03/2020 11:04

@derxa is that sarcastic? Confused sorry I can never tell online!

DP is however healthy and has signed up, I'm going to look after the baby while he helps.

My point is, we are trying to do our bit (not just tweet videos and sharing links) when DP has a full time job to do from home, we have a baby to look after, no nanny. What could possibly be their excuse with their wealth, resources and supposed sense of public duty?

Wolfgirrl · 27/03/2020 11:06

@Ponoka7

They could batch cook meals from their mansion to send to a local food bank. No security needed and press cant get into their kitchen.

KonTikki · 27/03/2020 11:25

It was Prince Philip who once said,
If you don't want us, just tell us and we will happily bugger off and live our own lives.

The problem for the RF is that the majority still want them, me included, so they just keep on trucking on.

OhCaptain · 27/03/2020 11:30

Think that PP meant the RF

And aren’t the children in question members of the royal family?

MangoFeverDream · 27/03/2020 11:52

And aren’t the children in question members of the royal family

What, so we can’t criticize the RF now because there are children? Even you can’t believe that one 🙄

PineapplePower · 27/03/2020 11:54

Wonderful they can all spare us their tiresome PR stunts

OlaEliza · 27/03/2020 12:23

@Wolfgirrl William might go back to flying air ambulances. They can't ferry people around and drop off meals etc like normal people because of the security risk.

Wolfgirrl · 27/03/2020 12:25

@OlaEliza excellent suggestion. @1forsorrow how about that? It obviously wasnt a security risk when he did it before?

OlaEliza · 27/03/2020 12:27

I don't think food banks want cooked meals. And people shouldn't be expected to eat prepared food that comes from God knows where. Any crank could have spat in them.

SenecaFallsRedux · 27/03/2020 12:38

They aren't Stuarts which died out after Queen Anne

They are direct descendants of Stuarts, though, including James I and VI, Charles I, and Mary Queen of Scots. It's the Stuart connection that migrated to Hanover that is the nexus to the present. In addition, William and his children are direct descendants of Charles II through Diana.

Wolfgirrl · 27/03/2020 12:38

@OlaEliza always excuses as to why they cant help... how about offering to use profits from the duchy to buy food for food banks then?

Helping out in the food bank warehouses? Dont tell me this is a security risk, they can visit charities to make a 5 minute speech so I'm sure a few actual shifts wouldn't be impossible.

William air ambulance pilot?

OhCaptain · 27/03/2020 12:43

No, I don’t believe that one. Which is why I didn’t say that. If you’re going to be snarky, at least read the thread properly. 🙄
