No Daily Mail, the young Royals did not lead the clapping last night

They took part.
Just like every other citizen of the UK did
They did not start it.

I know, I know, bigger things to think about and all.

But it has raised the Republican in me to see headlines saying "The clapping was led by the Royal cuties"

We were all part of it. It just started on our street.

YOU'RE NOT ALONE Kate Middleton and Prince William launch £5m scheme to help UK’s mental health charities during coronavirus lockdown.

Another token PR stunt (paid for by others) so they can put their feet up for the rest of the pandemic and say, 'hey but we were the face of that campaign!! We did half a days work visiting a call centre, staging photos holding a phone then tweeted some links!' Unless there are some arduous duties we dont know about @clavinova ? Are they personally manning a mental health hotline from amner hall?

StoneofDestiny · 29/03/2020 18:41

Cobblers - they aren’t doing the work! They’ve just cut a virtual ribbon

Clavinova · 29/03/2020 18:41

Do you see a pattern here

Yes, he's very good at rising awareness and money for charity.

Why do you think charities benefit from celebrity endorsements - why not ask Mrs Smith from down the road?

It's great - and yes, Royal patronage helps. It's good that they are doing it.

What about hearing an address to the Nation?

What did you think of King George VI speech at the outbreak of WW2?

OP posts:
Clavinova · 29/03/2020 18:50

The royal children have added another 100,000 views to their clapping video today - anti-monarchy group Republic haven't added a single donor to their 384 tally.

Wolfgirrl · 29/03/2020 18:52

Yes, he's very good at rising awareness and money for charity.

No, he isnt. It is the pristige of his title that attracts people to donate to his charities.

And you really dont see the irony of a multimillionaire with empty family palaces appealing on behalf of homeless people?

So just to clarify, you think the only duty of the royals is to raise money for charity? If so, why dont we replace them with Bob Geldof?

chomalungma · 29/03/2020 18:53

he royal children have added another 100,000 views to their clapping video today - anti-monarchy group Republic haven't added a single donor to their 384 tally

It's a lovely video. I have seen it myself.

What did you think of King George VI speech ?

OP posts:
derxa · 29/03/2020 18:55

Where is the Queen? Or Charles? Charles has coronavirus and the Queen might be ill. Who knows. For someone who thinks the RF is useless and demanding a nation wide address from the Queen is somewhat contradictory.

Clavinova · 29/03/2020 18:55

What about hearing an address to the Nation?
They have made several as a family.

What did you think of King George VI speech at the outbreak of WW2?

Considering there are 613 posts on;
"If you could binge watch a series for the first time again what would it be?" you are probably being over dramatic at this point in time.

Wolfgirrl · 29/03/2020 18:57

The royal children have added another 100,000 views to their clapping video today - anti-monarchy group Republic haven't added a single donor to their 384 tally.

You think this is a reliable sample demonstrable of public support?

  1. Viewing the clapping video doesnt make the viewer an ardent royalist. Just like watching a funny dog video doesnt mean you want to get a dog. If the Republic website counted number of hits you would be among them - would that make you a Republican? Grin
  2. Republic has 5000 donors and 35000 members. The figures you have put refer to only one campaign. But dont let fact stand in the way of your fantasy
  3. Republic are not the entirety of republicans in the UK. They will range from moderate ones, who disagree with the monarchy but not enough to do anything about it, to the more extreme end in groups like Throne Out etc.
  4. Not to mention the portion of the public who just dont care eitherway

So your numbers are literally meaningless.

Wolfgirrl · 29/03/2020 18:57

@derxa

The palace said queen is in good health. Next excuse?

chomalungma · 29/03/2020 18:58

They have made several as a family

You clearly don't understand what an address is.

'Why do you think charities benefit from celebrity endorsements - why not ask Mrs Smith from down the road?' Most celebrities have had to work and earn their own money (and haven't had any taxpayers money either); they don't have an obligation to endorse charities although it is of course welcome when they do. If we are going to have one, the RF have a duty to lead the nation.

'The royal children have added another 100,000 views to their clapping video today - anti-monarchy group Republic haven't added a single donor to their 384 tally'

Republic, unlike the RF, don't have the benefit of a sycophantic press to publicise their efforts. Which as you recall was what the original post was about.

Clavinova · 29/03/2020 19:00

It is the pristige of his title that attracts people to donate to his charities.

Perhaps, but why remove the prestige if it's a brand that works? He married well - his children are much cuter than Bob Geldof.

Wolfgirrl · 29/03/2020 19:01

@chomalungma

@Clavinova doesnt see the irony in a millionaire with empty palaces appealing on behalf of homeless people, so I doubt an address will be understood...

@clavinova wont address the homeless point btw, will just say something vague about raising awareness then move on Grin

Clavinova · 29/03/2020 19:03

Republic, unlike the RF, don't have the benefit of a sycophantic press to publicise their efforts.

They've been publicised on here - not a single person has added to their funds - you all seem so passionate about the cause why don't you give them £10?

chomalungma · 29/03/2020 19:04

hey've been publicised on here - not a single person has added to their funds - you all seem so passionate about the cause why don't you give them £10

This is about now.
This is about a Royal Address

Do you know what it is?

OP posts:
Wolfgirrl · 29/03/2020 19:05

@Clavinova

Ok well seeing as he is such a philanthropist and has a huge private source of income from the Duchy, why doesnt he refuse the Sovereign Grant and do his charity work as a titled but financially independent individual? He can ask that the grant goes to the charities. That way everyone wins surely?

Wolfgirrl · 29/03/2020 19:06

@Clavinova you dont know that we havent. It's a choice. Unlike being ordered to give money to the RF.

chomalungma · 29/03/2020 19:07

There are pensioners alone in their houses. Who have grown up with the Queen in their lives.

Who are worried about their health.
Their future
Their Grandchildren

The whole point of the Queen is continuity.

They deserve to hear from her.

Silence.

Deafening silence.

But this is the woman who had to be told by Blair to address the nation when Diana died

OP posts:
Puzzledandpissedoff · 29/03/2020 19:08

Republic, unlike the RF, don't have the benefit of a sycophantic press to publicise their efforts

But at least they're excellent at providing careful proof for most of what they publish ... a lesson the RF and their supporters would do well to learn

Clavinova · 29/03/2020 19:16

Republic has 5000 donors and 35000 members.The figures you have put refer to only one campaign. But don't let fact stand in the way of your fantasy

Not sure about that - the source of the wiki figure is here;

2016 it now has more than 5,000 paying members as well as about 35,000 online supporters. An online supporter could be me because I clicked on their website;

Losing popularity?

Wolfgirrl · 29/03/2020 19:18

An online supporter could be me because I clicked on their website

But that's how you are judging the royals popularity, by views on the clapping and sophie wessex videos?

Clavinova · 29/03/2020 19:21

They deserve to hear from her

They did - old people read newspapers;
