No Daily Mail, the young Royals did not lead the clapping last night

They took part.
Just like every other citizen of the UK did
They did not start it.

I know, I know, bigger things to think about and all.

But it has raised the Republican in me to see headlines saying "The clapping was led by the Royal cuties"

We were all part of it. It just started on our street.

I've just looked at the headline and now it's giving me the rage too Hmm. Leading the applause FFS, their picture was clearly taken during the day as well.

IamAporcupine · 27/03/2020 07:54

I am with you OP

Actually it was me that led the clapping because I started by accident at 19:53

They have ...never done a real day's work in their lives, and pretend to take part in this. Sickening

Tbf George is only 6.

SunshineCake · 27/03/2020 08:00

Just as Rachel Weitz and the Beckhams didn't lead it. It is the usual phrase the use for everything. Having said that, it really doesn't matter and I for one enjoyed the video of the children clapping.

It was nice to see the Beckhams getting involved too!

underthepatio · 27/03/2020 08:12

Seriously?

There isn't enough going on that we need to target little children?

slipperywhensparticus · 27/03/2020 08:12

Fuckme they really cant do anything right can they? For weeks people bitching the queen hasnt filmed a statement only written one then is how come charlie gets tested? (Why are all fucking celebrities getting tested over our NHS is more the point) now they can't even clap in support

Take it for what it is for once a nice gesture no they arnt going to pay there wages anymore than anyone else who clapped why should they leave there own personal homes and money for people

Is this really the fucking time to be royal bashing there are bigger things going on

1forsorrow · 27/03/2020 08:13

Typical on here, one thread saying the Royals need to be more visible, show their support etc etc etc Then another thread saying photo of 3 nice young kids clapping is some sort of affront to the people who clapped.

EachandEveryone · 27/03/2020 08:14

My sister said they were clapping because they'll never have to use it.

C8H10N4O2 · 27/03/2020 08:25

But I do find partisan moaning about a nice gesture of solidarity by young children to be deeply unpleasant

What I find unpleasant is the sight of politicians (who fairly recently were slapping each other on the back at restricting NHS pay and making cuts) doing performance applause for the cameras.

Frankly publicity shots of Royals doing the same thing is just more of thee same.

Lets not pretend anything will change after this. All the fine words will be forgotten as we are all told wee have have to share in another round of austerity to pay for the additional depths of a recession caused by cutting resilience in every sector to nothing.

fiddlethefiddles · 27/03/2020 08:25

ncfortuna sorry to burst your bubble but I was out there 3 minutes earlier and with my champagne toast too Grin

velocitygirl7 · 27/03/2020 08:31

Yep, absolute bull.
It was dark when we clapped, every single photo I have seen of the royals 'leading' the clap were taken in broad daylight.

And no, those obscenely privileged individuals did not lead the clap, in my opinion my hardworking a&e nurse friend who lives on the next street did!

1forAll74 · 27/03/2020 08:35

Don't be a bit iffy about this, the royals do their bit about some dire situations that happen in our country. It is what they do, despite being wealthy and in a land that we will never know about. It was nice that the little royal children did their claps.. despite probably not knowing about all things..

JudyCoolibar · 27/03/2020 08:37

To be honest I was more filled with rage seeing Boris do it.

This. If he had been even minimally competent and started preparations back in late January or February, NHS workers wouldn't now have to put their lives in danger every day for lack of PPE.

chomalungma · 27/03/2020 08:40

There isn't enough going on that we need to target little children

This is about the reporting.

It is not about the gesture itself which was lovely - they joined in just like every other person did

OP posts:
1forAll74 · 27/03/2020 08:43

Meghan and H, don''t give a shit, they have gone to Hollywood..

CalmYoBadSelf · 27/03/2020 08:45

Who cares? I'm sure we all noticed that it was filmed earlier but they are little children and at least the family made the effort. I'm sure you'd have condemned them if they did nothing.
Can't you just try to ignore it and be positive?

CendrillonSings · 27/03/2020 08:46

yougov.co.uk/topics/travel/survey-results/daily/2020/02/18/8b405/1

Do you think that Britain should continue to have a monarchy, or not?
YouGov surveyed 3142 GB adults
Conducted Feb 18, 2020

Yes: 62%
No: 22%

You’d have better luck electing Jeremy Corbyn as Prime Minister than getting a Republic! Grin

MsSquiz · 27/03/2020 08:47

Maybe they "led the clapping" because they did it earlier in the day, so they could take part, before they went to bed?

It's semantics

And of course Fox News only mentioned the royals, they aren't interested in Joe Public - it's an American news channel

OlaEliza · 27/03/2020 08:48

They certainly aren't in this together with us

Charles has it, reportedly, and as I understand it, there's no rich/poor divide with this. Everyone's chances are 50/50. uness there IS a secret cure and this is all a cull

Nearlyalmost50 · 27/03/2020 08:48

I agree with you OP. If you are going to join in with something, join in! I'm sure they could stay up til 8pm, the older children anyway.

Even twit Boris stood out there and clapped at the right time.

It's all pretend but so obviously so. At least pretend properly!

CendrillonSings · 27/03/2020 08:49

There will be a reckoning before long, and I hope they get their comeuppance. They certainly aren't in this together with us...

Only in your dreams. Look at the polling - a republican socialist state is a million miles away.

Peregrina · 27/03/2020 08:50

How is decamping to your second/third/fourth home 'doing your bit'?

It's not as though the Queen and D of E couldn't have self-isolated at Buckingham Palace with all the rooms it has. It's not like the War where they were in danger of being bombed. Why couldn't Charles and Camilla have stayed in where-ever they are supposed to live - Highgrove is it, instead of clearing off to Scotland, and being tested there?

Clapping by the young royals because Mummy has told them to do so, is fine, but let's not pretend there was any "leading" involved.

Brefugee · 27/03/2020 08:51

honestly, does it really matter? It’s just a daft daily fail headline

It does matter. As we have seen on this thread - the headlines are absolute tripe. Complete and utter fawning tripe.
And they are swallowed hook line and sinker by forelock tugging monarchists (more or less). And it all moves from "aw those kids are cute" to "it's perfectly ok for them to go to their 2nd - 3rd? 4th? - home while the rest of us aren't and put locals in danger by spreading the virus an consuming local resources" because they are important / heads of state / entitled to do whatever they like...

The Royal Family is an anachronism in the 21st century, but if the tabloids didn't keep pulling this kind of stunt, the rest of the country might take slimming it down drastically or abolishing it completely, a little more serously.
