No Daily Mail, the young Royals did not lead the clapping last night

They took part.
Just like every other citizen of the UK did
They did not start it.

I know, I know, bigger things to think about and all.

But it has raised the Republican in me to see headlines saying "The clapping was led by the Royal cuties"

We were all part of it. It just started on our street.

Well, they are the direct heirs of 50 generations of kings, but apart from that...

I very much doubt that. They are the direct descendants of a couple of centuries of German royals - so about 8 generations. They aren't Stuarts which died out after Queen Anne, or Plantagents, some direct descendents of which still think that they have been denied the throne.

nestisflown · 27/03/2020 09:45

Well, they are the direct heirs of 50 generations of kings, but apart from that...

And...? Does that suddenly mean their bloodline makes the sun rise or singlehandedly powers our internet servers? Other than meaningless titles they are no different from any other children in the country.

chomalungma · 27/03/2020 09:50

Agree. There are some seriously nasty people on MN

Can you quote where I have been nasty about the Royal Family and these young children?

I have said that the gesture was lovely. As the BBC said, they JOINED in with the clapping. It's a nice video.

They did not lead the clapping - because no one lead the clapping. It was a community effort.

Words matter. They influence and they reinforce a message.

We are all descended from Royalty if you go back far enough.

Good to know that in these unprecedented times MNers still find time to nit pick at the royals and teachers. Quite soothing in a way....

MangoFeverDream · 27/03/2020 09:54

they really cant do anything right can they?

No they can’t which is why they need to go away.

Thelll

tara66 · 27/03/2020 09:57

Moan, moan, moan?? Can't find anything else to do? They are only very young children.

Peregrina · 27/03/2020 09:58

They can't do anything right now, certainly. I thought that as soon as they cleared off to their second homes, but everyone else was criticised for doing so.

I would quite happily keep a Royal Family as long as they scaled it all back significantly.

OhCaptain · 27/03/2020 09:58

I’m Irish so have no vested interest in your royals but I can’t believe some of the posts on here.

Wishing for young children to “get their comeuppance” whatever the fuck that means!

Isn’t the youngest only two years old?

Ffs! Words matter, yes. But not these words.

Every year they randomly choose an actress to “lead the red carpet fashions” at awards. Nobody thinks said actress is in charge or somehow more important.

It’s a turn of phrase from a shit rag. Why does it matter?

1forsorrow · 27/03/2020 10:00

In fact instead of clapping I’m surprised none of these people have thought maybe the NHS staff deserve a pay rise after ten years of being severely under funded. I never realised 3 young children decided who deserved a pay rise. You live and learn.

MangoFeverDream · 27/03/2020 10:03

Think that PP meant the RF

LittleRootie · 27/03/2020 10:09

Just for the use of the words Royal Cuties (bleugghh!) by the nauseating DM I would have to say YANBU

yesterdayhasgone · 27/03/2020 10:12

ikely intended to more have a dig at Meghan and Harry than anything else
Doubtful but understandable if they did surely.

Wolfgirrl · 27/03/2020 10:14

@1forsorrow

The point is very simple. We want them to do something useful not just a quick bit of PR then legging it back into their palaces.

gingersausage · 27/03/2020 10:16

Jesus wept, the hard of thinking are out in force this morning.

This thread itself is a prime example of why accurate reporting in the press is so important. The OP posts something, some people read it and formulate intelligent thoughts or answers, the rest make up bullshit as they go along based on what they think the OP said rather than what was actually said. It’s so bloody meta it’s scary.

lmcneil003 · 27/03/2020 10:22

I see the queen couldn't get off her pampered Arse to applaud

CoupeCourte · 27/03/2020 10:30

@fiddlethefiddle look up Kayla Williams. She was 36. She didn't get taken to hospital despite a cough, fever, severe chest pains - her husband says they were told she was not a priority. She died the next day, on Saturday.

The idea that rich and poor have equal chance with this virus, even in a country with socialised healthcare, is laughable. The different treatment available to Charles and Kayla are crystal clear examples of that. Kayla was the mother of three children, a black woman, and Charles is the 70something white male heir to the throne. The system is massively stacked in his favour.

Chloemol · 27/03/2020 10:32

In the great scheme of things happening now does it matter

@Imcneil003. What a truely horrible person you are to make such a nasty comment in a time like this. Nasty

Peregrina · 27/03/2020 10:32

What seems to be missed by the Royalists on the thread is that our criticism is directed towards the crap printed by the Daily Mail. Not what small children get up to.

1forsorrow · 27/03/2020 10:41

I see the queen couldn't get off her pampered Arse to applaud She's 93, I suppose you will be doing cartwheels when you're 93.

1forsorrow · 27/03/2020 10:44

The point is very simple. We want them to do something useful not just a quick bit of PR then legging it back into their palaces. Well the oldest one is 6 isn't he? I suppose you'd like him to be cleaning chimneys or working down a mine.

Peregrina · 27/03/2020 10:44

My MIL was regularly walking to the local shops to get her newspaper at 93. Since then, her health has gone downhill. She has also had a significantly harder life than her Majesty.

Wolfgirrl · 27/03/2020 10:47

@1forsorrow

REDUCTIO AD ABSURDUM.

What about Kate and William? Fit healthy individuals in their 30s.

Why cant they sign up as NHS volunteers? Deliver medicine, take people to hospital, cook and deliver meals? And I dont mean for an hour or two as PR, I mean as a regular duty until the pandemic is over.

1forsorrow · 27/03/2020 10:51

William is raising money to help people isn't he? Don't know about Kate, I'm not a royal follower, I'm sure if she's doing something you could find out about it.

Peregrina · 27/03/2020 10:53

Wolfgirrl and do it quietly without making a song and dance about it.
As the Duchess of Kent did when she withdrew from public life and spent a good number of years helping out with music lessons at a couple of local primary schools.

But no, they have decamped to Norfolk.
