No Daily Mail, the young Royals did not lead the clapping last night

They took part.
Just like every other citizen of the UK did
They did not start it.

I know, I know, bigger things to think about and all.

But it has raised the Republican in me to see headlines saying "The clapping was led by the Royal cuties"

We were all part of it. It just started on our street.

She's 93, I suppose you will be doing cartwheels when you're 93.

Who said anything about cartwheels??
She cannot be bothered to show gratitude to the NHS. Just because she never uses it.

chomalungma · 27/03/2020 13:27

They are direct descendants of Stuarts, though, including James I and VI, Charles I, and Mary Queen of Scots. It's the Stuart connection that migrated to Hanover that is the nexus to the present. In addition, William and his children are direct descendants of Charles II through Diana

If you do a proper family tree, there is a good chance that many people on MN are direct descendants of Charles II

Because of maths and DNA

OP posts:
OlaEliza · 27/03/2020 13:35

@Wolfgirrl If they did anything like that, we wouldn't be told about it, so how do you know they don't? Didn't Diana used to do stuff like this in secret?

FunkyKingston · 27/03/2020 13:38

The gesture is lovely. It's the reporting and the headline and the sycophancy by the media that's disturbing

It isn't lovely. It's tokenism and hypocrisy on the part of their parents and wider family.

In the same week their grandfather bolts to the other end of the country and has access to testing when frontline NHS staff don't. They won't have to rely on the NHS at any point in their gilded lives and will get pushed straight to the queue regardless of medical need.

JustInCaseCakeHappens · 27/03/2020 13:42

I don't think food banks want cooked meals. And people shouldn't be expected to eat prepared food that comes from God knows where. Any crank could have spat in them.

well soup kitchens then. You know the ones that are using products given by the supermarkets to make meals and distribute them to the ones who need the most?

Educate yourself, they never have any left overs.

Wolfgirrl · 27/03/2020 13:45

@OlaEliza so what proof do you have that they are actually doing anything?

Its illogical to assume because you dont hear about them, they're obviously moonlighting in a soup kitchen Hmm if anything it's far more plausible they're doing nothing.

Tomorrowsanewday · 27/03/2020 13:55

In the past, anything quoted from the Daily Mail, or Daily Fail as some like to call it raised an, Oh you don’t read/believe any nonsense they write. Even admitting you read it cast aspersions on your intellect.
Now all of a sudden it’s the Oracle.
Bashers gonna bash.

MangoFeverDream · 27/03/2020 14:17

No, I don’t believe that one. Which is why I didn’t say that. If you’re going to be snarky, at least read the thread properly

You tried to shame another poster and implied that they were wanting the children to get their comeuppance when they clearly meant the concept of the RF and the continuation of their undeserved privileges far into the modern age.

OhCaptain · 27/03/2020 14:28

Saying “they’ll get their comeuppance” on a thread specifically about the royal children was nasty and unnecessary.

You tried to imply that I meant the RF should never receive any criticism because there are children in it. Which I didn’t.

What part is confusing you? :)

MangoFeverDream · 27/03/2020 14:31

Saying “they’ll get their comeuppance” on a thread specifically about the royal children was nasty and unnecessary

For someone accusing me of not reading properly, you were the one bringing the children into it, they clearly were talking about the RF as a whole.

OhCaptain · 27/03/2020 14:53

I was the one bringing children into it? On a thread about the children? Confused

Are you quite well?

InanOcadoQueue · 27/03/2020 15:02

William is raising money to help people isn't he?

Raising it from other people? or just giving some of his own?
For me the coronavirus has highlighted just how nonsensical the RF seems. They won't be in the queue for ventilators so I'm not too worried about them, I'm sure they get a team of doctors for the slightest sniffle. If they are ill, chefs will cook regular nutritious meals, they won't be trying to get a sainsburys slot or getting out of bed doing anything.
People should all stop fawning over them imo.

StealthPolarBear · 27/03/2020 15:14

Why do people keep saying chances are 50/50? Chances of what exactly?

MangoFeverDream · 27/03/2020 15:15

Are you quite well?

You really do like to intentionally misread things 🤦‍♀️

OlaEliza · 27/03/2020 15:20

Dying from covid19.

What proof have you got that they aren't doing anything behind the scenes @Wolfgirrl?

Personally, I couldn't care less what they are doing. What they do makes no difference to me, my life or anyone else I know so I don't care if they secretly feed the world or hole up like the rest of us should be doing 🤷

chomalungma · 27/03/2020 15:23

I was the one bringing children into it? On a thread about the children

Techically, it's a thread about the media response.

So am y Royal family haters. The UK is a monarchy. Why live here?

BritishHorrorStory · 27/03/2020 15:32

Every year they randomly choose an actress to “lead the red carpet fashions” at awards. Nobody thinks said actress is in charge or somehow more important.

Exactly.

What an utterly bizarre thread

SenecaFallsRedux · 27/03/2020 15:48

Very true. He was quite prolific. Crown Smile

Through his mother, the present Duke of Gloucester, the Queen's cousin, is also a direct descendant of Charles II.

Dylaninthemovies1 · 27/03/2020 15:53

They had to do it early as 8pm is well past their bedtime.

They were so bloody cute though! Did you see the way the smallest one kept looking up at his big brother and sister.

I’m in no way a royalist: but 3 small kids clapping for the NHS is cute

chomalungma · 27/03/2020 16:24

So am y Royal family haters. The UK is a monarchy. Why live here

First - this is a thread about the media and sycphancy

Second - well, it's a bit hard to leave at the moment, isn't it

OP posts:
MinnieMountain · 27/03/2020 16:34

Third, why the hell should we leave? It's not like someone can put their whole life in a magic box and transport it to another country.

JustInCaseCakeHappens · 27/03/2020 16:47

So am y Royal family haters. The UK is a monarchy. Why live here?

It's my country, why should I move? The right thing to do is fight for this outdated system to become a thing of the past and get rid of them all.

Now is not exactly the time to do that. We'll get back to it when things are back to normal.

JustInCaseCakeHappens · 27/03/2020 16:49

They had to do it early as 8pm is well past their bedtime.

sorry what? Confused
First you don't know what time their bed time is, and even if it's generally earlier, it wouldn't kill them to stay up later. I am sure the nannies will be fine.
The children obviously do as they are told, but the attitude from their parents is ridiculous. The country was full of young children joining in.

Brefugee · 28/03/2020 16:35

@fiddlethefiddles
read it and weep

www.theguardian.com/world/2020/mar/25/london-woman-36-dies-of-suspected-covid-19-after-being-told-she-is-not-priority

I have long been of the opinion that the Royal Family should slim right down. And then stop after the Queen dies. They serve no purpose. Royalists and monarchists keep telling me they bring tourists but there is no good evidence for this. They should pay tax at the same rate as everyone else should, and they should REALLY be setting an example by not fucking off to one of their other palaces for the duration.

And people can say it as often as they like that Charles should have been tested, but frankly he needs better PR. He shouldn't have been tested and even if he was, they should have kept it quiet and just said they were isolating due to symptoms. don't they think of the optics? Everyone knows that Charles doesn't even put his own toothpaste on his toothbrush. He is an anachronism that doesn't belong in a modern country.
