Swollen feet and hands - do I get checked out tonight or wait until next appointment?

Posting here for traffic, I hope that’s okay as I’m not really sure what to do in this situation as never experienced it before and could do with advice?

Posted earlier about possible preeclampsia. 36 weeks pregnant. Blood pressure rising, not high but high for me at 140/88. Usually get really good readings. Also protein in my urine past 5 samples and no UTI. Just noticed my hands and feet look quite puffy but can’t tell if I’m just being paranoid?

Do they look swollen to you? Excuse the nails I’ve been so slack on them lol. If they do, what should I do, get checked out tonight or wait for my appointment on Wednesday?

I’ve only ever been checked out for reduced movements so not really sure what to do here?

I would have that checked tonight.
Definite puffiness and with other symptoms it makes sense.
Appreciate the NHS is mental right now but you only got one chance for this baby x

Roweeeeena · 23/03/2020 19:36

I would phone the maternity unit now for advice.

Minxmumma · 23/03/2020 19:37

If in doubt at all call your out of hours number tonight. It is not something to trifle with.
Better to ask the question than worry and take risks.
Hope all goes well

Kitkatkatnap · 23/03/2020 19:37

Yes, ring and ask right now. Swollen hands and feet are a sign of preeclampsia. Don’t wait until Wednesday. Ring your midwife or local maternity unit straight away.

Gumps · 23/03/2020 19:37

I’d go now. Even if it’s nothing far better to be checked. Hope all is well.

Backtobackagain · 23/03/2020 19:38

Get checked out now! With that combination of symptoms you cannot wait til wed. I had pre-eclampsia, it can get very serious very quickly! Fingers crossed it is not, but you cannot take that chance.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 23/03/2020 19:38

Yep, I'd call midwife and see what they say!

Azure83 · 23/03/2020 19:38

Tonight, definitely tonight. Good luck x

limpingparrot · 23/03/2020 19:38

As a 2 time sufferer of preeclampsia, I would say go and get checked now if you can. Everything is pointing to the fact your going to get it so it’s best to catch it as early as possible. Everything was fine for me (2 straightforward inductions too)

BBCONEANDTWO · 23/03/2020 19:39

Maternity care is still available you must get this seen to - good luck and if you can keep us up to date x

Winterwoollies · 23/03/2020 19:40

You know your hands and feet better than us but if you’re worried, this is one of the things they want you to act on immediately.

Phone the triage midwives now. You won’t be wasting their time. 🙂

Also, keep drinking lots of water. Let us know now how you get on.

Marieo · 23/03/2020 19:40

Please call now.

widdioisright · 23/03/2020 19:44

Retired midwife here, please phone tonight for advice.

Badgerstmary · 23/03/2020 19:46

Please get checked.

CandleFlames · 23/03/2020 19:53

I called them and they told me not to go in, that it’s normal to get swollen feet in pregnancy and then my blood pressure reading wasn’t that high that they should be alarmed. Told me to see if they’re still swollen tomorrow morning and call again then if they are :/

SilverOtter · 23/03/2020 19:56

The key thing is what's normal FOR YOU. Fo not key them put you off. As a first year medical student, and two time mother with my first being a pre-eclampsia pregnancy please, please listen to your gut x

Rachie1973 · 23/03/2020 19:58

I’m surprised they’re leaving it to be honest. Watch out for other symptoms and take care xxx

Cacaca · 23/03/2020 20:21

Get checked, towards the end of my pregnancy I had traces of protein in my urine so my midwife was checking it weekly. She drummer it into me any further symptoms get it checked out ASAP. I was induced a week early after my suspected pre-eclampsia test came back negative - they didn’t want to take any risks of it developing.

Legoandloldolls · 23/03/2020 20:25

Yes your hands are swollen. How is your face? Is that swollen? Have you put much weight on? If you press your thumb hard into your calf, does it leave a dent? Your BP only has go up to 141/91 and you need to go in anyway.

Former PE sufferer here. I never felt unwell. Put on 2 stone in around two weeks. BP 180/115 pre birth and 280/170 post birth. I felt great. No sure how I didnt have a stroke really

CandleFlames · 23/03/2020 20:28

Yes I have put on loads of weight in the past month. I started at 13st 7 and was 14stone at 30 weeks. Now 36 weeks and 15 and a half stone I feel awful. Think my face looks okay though! @legoandloldolls

Get checked. Now. Those are all potentially worrying signs and it's not worth risking your baby's life or your own.

Hawkmoth · 23/03/2020 20:40

Does it leave a dent if you push your finger into your forehead?

Ihaveamind · 23/03/2020 20:55

Get checked now please.
My friend had a similar problem with her blood pressure being high for her but not high in general. If her mother had not kicked up a fuss she would have died.
She was admitted and having a section within 30 minutes of being examined. She is fine now by the way.
I'm not any type of medical professional so don't mean to frighten you.
It's just you are your own best advocate.

Darbs76 · 23/03/2020 20:57

Yes call the number on your notes. They will be advise whether to go in or not

Procrastination4 · 23/03/2020 21:00

Please, please get checked. I had a colleague whose feet were swollen. She was going to leave it and put her feet up when she went home to see if the swelling would go down. I told her she should really get it checked out as soon as she could. I’m glad I did! Doctor had her signed off straight away and she went on to have a gorgeous healthy baby boy. Please get yourself checked!
