Swollen feet and hands - do I get checked out tonight or wait until next appointment?

Posting here for traffic, I hope that’s okay as I’m not really sure what to do in this situation as never experienced it before and could do with advice?

Posted earlier about possible preeclampsia. 36 weeks pregnant. Blood pressure rising, not high but high for me at 140/88. Usually get really good readings. Also protein in my urine past 5 samples and no UTI. Just noticed my hands and feet look quite puffy but can’t tell if I’m just being paranoid?

Do they look swollen to you? Excuse the nails I’ve been so slack on them lol. If they do, what should I do, get checked out tonight or wait for my appointment on Wednesday?

I’ve only ever been checked out for reduced movements so not really sure what to do here?

Please get checked out. I gave birth at 34 weeks after getting PE after a very easy pregnancy and no blood pressure issues until there were. I put on a stone in 3 weeks after hardly putting on any weight, swollen feet etc. A blinding headache was my main symptom though for 48hours before I was admitted. Better safe than sorry x

CandleFlames · 23/03/2020 21:26

I just called again because I’ve started getting a headache now and they told me my blood test results came back and my platelets are borderline low which is something to do with preeclampsia? But they’re still not worried! They have said I can go in tonight though to have my BP checked and to speak to a doctor.

Go in Candle I'm sure everything will be okay, but go and get your blood pressure monitored again

Whatsername177 · 23/03/2020 21:38

Tonight. I has preeclampsia. Call the numbers on your notes.

ViserionTheDragon · 23/03/2020 22:30

Please insist on going in and getting checked. Good luck

widdioisright · 23/03/2020 22:38

Yes you need to go in,all the classic signs of pre-eclampsia,no hanging around to see how you are tomorrow. They have not seen the oedema, you need to be assessed.

Legoandloldolls · 23/03/2020 22:39

Weight gain is water from your kidneys leaking.

If you have a headache and esp see floaters, have pain under the ribs just go in please, please.

Your going into hospital very soon anyway. So things like corna virus are irrelevant right now as you have no choice to reschedule your birth.

Do the thumb test. It's called pitting oedema. Pain under the ribs would be extremely dangerous. That's liver pain. At that pain you ignore everyone and you get insistent. Once it starts to get high it's harder to control.

Your 37 weeks and was induced then. My son was fine for it and so was I.

Please don't be scared but do listen to your body

BetelgeuseIsOrionsArmpit · 23/03/2020 22:42

OP, please get yourself checked out. I have had a rare pregnancy complication on all of my pregnancies called HELLP Syndrome (please don't google it as it will scare you) but any preeclampsia symptoms, especially protein in urine needs to be seen urgently.

crispysausagerolls · 24/03/2020 06:49

Hope you’re ok

CandleFlames · 24/03/2020 20:30

Hi all, just wanted to update. I went to the labour ward last night and they did a urine sample which was +1 with protein and they took my blood pressure three times which wasn't particularly high, but my fingers and feet were definitely swollen and the doctor said she feels like preeclampsia is brewing. Today I feel even worse, my feet aren't as swollen but I've woken up with a sore throat and I've got a headache that won't go away, pain in my ribs and I just feel generally so exhausted. Starting to worry about the C word if not preeclampsia.

With rib pain you should go back in tonight.

tempestterra · 24/03/2020 21:28

candles I really think you should ring maternity ward and get your blood pressure done again.

Nat6999 · 24/03/2020 21:29

I went from being totally fine on the monday at 36 weeks to blowing up with over 2 stone of fluid by the Friday. My face was like a massive balloon, no real features, slits for eyes, my legs were solid, feet were massive. Go to triage & get checked, take your bag with you.

Haggisfish · 24/03/2020 21:33

Go back ASAP. Poor you op.

Marieo · 24/03/2020 21:37

I am pretty shocked that they felt pre-eclampsia may be brewing and just sent you home, did they give anything to look out for? Please call or go back in, I know it's not ideal timing but especially with new symptoms need to be checked out.

littlemissalwaystired · 24/03/2020 21:39

As a midwife, the headache and rib pain would concern me. I'd recommend ringing back tonight and saying your symptoms are worsening and that you need to be seen.

HeyManIJustWantSomeMuesli · 24/03/2020 21:43

My high-for-me-but-not-that-high blood pressure was dismissed, I also had rib pain. It was HELLP syndrome. Please get seen.

DontGoIntoTheLongGrass · 24/03/2020 21:45

I'll tell you my story so you know what could happen.

36 weeks pregnant on a friday I was checked blood pressure and urine at normal appointment. All fine.
Sunday my legs swelled up suddenly. I'd had severe rib pain since 22 weeks on right side.
By Thursday I was throwing up and went to a&e where they found high blood pressure and preeclampsia.
I was induced and had baby 2 days later. Then they found the placenta accreta which explained rib pain. Retained placenta and a balloon put inside me to stop bleeding. I had 4 blood transfusions and nearly died in surgery. 10 weeks postpartum I started having contractions again and my placenta came out finally in my bathroom at home.

I do not want to scare you but you need to take action if you are having sudden swelling and rib pain. Please go see someone Sad A&E if you need to.

notaclue19 · 24/03/2020 21:51

Please please get checked out.
Your symptoms are identical to what mine were - I had severe preeclampsia and had an emergency c section at 35 weeks.

Please make them listen. I know they will be so busy with Coronavirus but you can't mess with preeclampsia

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 24/03/2020 23:05

I’m another who had HELLP. All fine in the end but it came on pretty rapidly.

Nat6999 · 25/03/2020 00:20

I'm not trying to frighten you but as my previous post I blew up in the space of four days, my BP on the Friday was 149/100, by the day after it was 178/115 with +++ protein in my urine when I was admitted to be induced, it kept rising & by the monday when they decided to do emcs it was 215/145 & still rising. I ended up in high dependency drugged up to the eyeballs with HELLP syndrome where my organs were failing, I had a midwife sat at the side of me constantly in case I started fitting, if that had happened, chances are I would have been brain damaged or died, it damaged my kidneys which took over a year to recover & I was very poorly for about the first 3 months of ds life, I went in hospital weighing 16 stone, by the time I got home & started to recover I weighed less than 10 stone, pre pregnancy I was a size 16/18, when I was well enough to get dressed at home I was a size 10/12, it was my birthday 6 weeks after ds was born & everyone had to buy me clothes as nothing fitted me, I looked anorexic, people kept on asking if I had an eating disorder, I hadn't, it was because I had been so poorly. I never imagined that having a baby could make you so ill, I honestly thought for the first few days like I was going to die. Please don't be like me & ignore the signs, even if you go to triage every day, get it checked out, better safe than sorry.

BetelgeuseIsOrionsArmpit · 26/03/2020 20:50

Please take any upper epigastric (ribs) pain very seriously. HELLP Syndrome is deadly if untreated. I hope that you do not have HELLP though and I wish you the very best with your pregnancy. Please tell the hospital that you are concerned about HELLP as it is not very well known still.

Phoenixrising1 · 26/03/2020 23:52

Please get this checked. I had un diagnosed pre eclampsia eventhough I had textbook symptoms, and developped full blown eclampsia. Don't want to say more and cause unnecessary alarm as I'm not a medic but please take this seriously.

Hope you and baby are safe x

HoldMyLobster · 27/03/2020 00:57

You OK OP?

HoldMyLobster · 27/03/2020 00:57

(Another HELLP Syndrome sufferer here - quite worried about you.)
