Swollen feet and hands - do I get checked out tonight or wait until next appointment?

Posting here for traffic, I hope that’s okay as I’m not really sure what to do in this situation as never experienced it before and could do with advice?

Posted earlier about possible preeclampsia. 36 weeks pregnant. Blood pressure rising, not high but high for me at 140/88. Usually get really good readings. Also protein in my urine past 5 samples and no UTI. Just noticed my hands and feet look quite puffy but can’t tell if I’m just being paranoid?

Do they look swollen to you? Excuse the nails I’ve been so slack on them lol. If they do, what should I do, get checked out tonight or wait for my appointment on Wednesday?

I’ve only ever been checked out for reduced movements so not really sure what to do here?

Everything OK, OP?

ViserionTheDragon · 27/03/2020 13:45

Why did they send you home if they thought pre-eclampsia was 'brewing'?

Please call them again and tell them about your new symptoms. Good luck Flowers.

Oakmaiden · 27/03/2020 13:49

Hopefully OP isn't posting because she is tucked up in bed with a lovely baby.

Let us know how you are, OP. xxx

CandleFlames · 27/03/2020 14:20

Sorry I haven't posted. I haven't had the baby yet! I had to go back to the hospital two days ago for monitoring again and my blood pressure was still up at 150/90. They've said I have pregnancy induced hypertension and have put me on medication for it. I also have a strep b urine infection so I'm on antibiotics for that. They're monitoring me even more closely now so I'll have another appointment with a consultant on Tuesday to watch for my blood pressure and it's really just keeping an eye out for PE now. They tried to bring my c-section forward to 38 weeks but unfortunately there were no slots and they don't want to do it any earlier because they can't give me the steroid shots due to having gestational diabetes? Not sure on that one. So C-Section date is still 15 April for now unless anything changes with my BP/more symptoms come out. Not feeling great in myself, especially with everything going on in the world but just hoping these medications help. Thank you to everyone who has been so nice and asked how I am xxx

Glad to hear your update OP.Stay safe and look after yourself and baby,

HoldMyLobster · 27/03/2020 15:33

That sounds like they're taking it seriously.

From my experience...

You should be seen at least weekly. By the final week of my pregnancy with very similar symptoms to yours I was being seen daily.

When you go in, ask for CTG monitoring and ongoing BP monitoring. I used to arrive with BP of 150/100, but after a cup of tea and half an hour listening to my baby's heartbeat it would be down to a manageable level.

Your platelet count should be checked at least weekly. Ask at what number they will take action. Mine hovered around 60 (60,000) which they were OK with as long as it didn't plummet. I would arrive for my appointment, they'd take my blood and by the time I left they had a result that made them and me happy that I could safely leave.

Towards the end they were running other blood tests to keep an eye on my liver function.

Good luck - and make sure you are aware of the symptoms of HELLP Syndrome or serious pre-eclampsia and go into hospital if you are in the slightest bit worried. These are dangerous diseases and your baby may very soon be safer out than in.

Can anyone help me as I am at a loss 😢 I’m only 14 weeks pregnant. I also have ulcerative colitis (autoimmune disease). Basically for the past two days, 4 times now I have had an unbearable headache which has left me crying my eyes out sort of like a throbbing pain as if I had been shot in the back of the head. Then last night I had a pain under my ribs on my back on my right hand side. I know especially the headaches that it is not normal to hurt so much. But due to all the corona virus my midwife app at 16 weeks is now over the phone so my blood pressure and urine aren’t going to be tested, I’m not sure what to do??

BecauseReasons · 27/03/2020 15:53

You'd be better off starting your own thread @Xenamc134. If you put ulcerative colitis in the title and put it on the pregnancy tests you're more likely to get people with experience. I would say to call your midwife too.

Anonymous7869 · 27/03/2020 15:56

Sorry I’m new to this and couldn’t for the life of me figure out how to work it! Lol, forgot to mention my feet are also slightly swelled, - the headaches aren’t anything to do with the ulcerative colitis that’s why I’m not sure on what to do. I contacted the hospital and they said go to A&E but with all the virus going about at the moment I don’t want to go incase it’s nothing to worry about 😩

@CandleFlames here is the link to the HELLP Syndrome Society website. On my first pregnancy my platelets dropped to just 24 which is a massive marker for HELLP. I'm glad that you are being monitored and I second what @HoldMyLobster said about ask for a CTG to be done, as my DS3s heartbeat kept dropping off so they decided to do an emergency c section. I had gestational diabetes with that pregnancy too.

OP - I had PIH - it was really bad but medication sorted it and it only became an issue around 38 weeks.

The meds will make you feel much better quickly and the next few weeks will be fine.

CandleFlames · 27/03/2020 17:33

Another update - I came back to the labour ward because I had rib pain and my feet are SO swollen I couldn’t even get my trainers on. My blood pressure is only a little high at 120/90 so the medication seems to be helping, but my urine had 3+ protein in it so they’re sending it off to the lab.

Oh gosh poor you op. Hope you feel
Reassured being in the ward.

Hello OP, hope you're ok...

CandleFlames · 03/04/2020 20:23

Hi sorry I keep forgetting to update. I’m home and still no baby. Being monitored twice weekly, my BP was up today but I hadn’t taken the medication. I’ve tested positive for MRSA so now need to spend 5 days doing the body wash and nasal drops, yay! So they definitely won’t be doing a csection before my date now, so just got to hold out for the 15th!

HoldMyLobster · 03/04/2020 20:47

Thanks for the update - hang in there and definitely take your meds.
