For the past few years the rainbow has sadly becomea symbol of silencing, sexual stereotyping and oppression for a lot of women and those in the LGB community. If you're thinking of putting one up, please think about how that may make women feel - many of whom have already experienced death threats and lost their friends and jobs thanks to those who wield the rainbow flag as a weapon.

I just saw two on my walk just now and it made me feel like shit. Not the intended effect I'm sure. Please consider something else: the sun coming out from a cloud, or a simple landscape. Thanks.

Jesus fucking Christ its a rainbow not the fucking nazi slogan.

RuffleCrow · 23/03/2020 12:47

Are you suggesting actual rainbows are part of a social media campaign @TheWordmeister ? Seems a bit far fetched.

The rainbow's been a universal symbol of hope since human beings got the hang of metaphors. Don't look at them if you don't like them.

adaline · 23/03/2020 12:47

Sorry OP, but you're massively overreacting.

Let children enjoy painting rainbows and putting them in their window!

I’ve come to the conclusion that op is on the wind up.

Nobody is that precious about a rainbow. It’s literally weather & colours. The rain offends me but I don’t cry when I see umbrellas & wellies

TeaMilkNoSugarThanks · 23/03/2020 12:48

it's really not the moment for this.

MorganKitten · 23/03/2020 12:48

I’m a member of the lgbtq community, female and don’t feel sadness when I see rainbows. I also work with children who like to draw them.... let children have some good right now.

BackyardChickens · 23/03/2020 12:48

Thank you for the laugh OP

Tatiebee · 23/03/2020 12:48

FGS

MsMD · 23/03/2020 12:48

Grow up. You're the one attaching negative connotations to a rainbow.

MadameBee · 23/03/2020 12:48

Thanks so much for this hilarious thread 👍🏻🤣

Gogoberry · 23/03/2020 12:49

Innocent or not, this now has negative connotations for many. Plenty of things that don't and would actually cheer everyone up. We don't know who started it or what their intentions were. Social media has all sorts on it.

GROW UP OP!!!!

TypingError · 23/03/2020 12:49

Rainbows belong to everybody, equally. I'm watching endless replays of 'Rainbow' on you tube with my 30 year old daughter who has severe LD. We are going to paint one shortly. She's non-verbal and keeps pulling me to the door to go out. No day centre, no clubs, no shopping, no swimming.
We can't go out, she's high risk for CV. Now, if she caught it, that would make me feel like shit.

DesLynamsMoustache · 23/03/2020 12:49

Yes, I'm afraid this is self-indulgent nonsense. Rainbows are a natural phenomenon that are not owned by any group. Are Skittles not allowed to use their 'taste the rainbow' marketing now? What about my daughter's clothes that have suns and rainbows on? Her Grimm rainbow toy, is that banned too?

In the nicest way OP, get a grip. Little Sarah down at number 57 isn't coming out in support of self ID. She's drawing a nice picture.

Me and the kids hadn't bothered to do one yet but we will now Smile

SuefromBudgeting · 23/03/2020 12:49

I don't know why some people are being so nasty to the OP. You can disagree with her without being an arse.

Littletabbyocelot · 23/03/2020 12:50

There's an irony in the frequent mumsnet complaints that trans activists want everything to centre on trans people when there are so many posts finding ways to make almost anything about the poster's reaction to trans activists.

FeministAF · 23/03/2020 12:50

JFC

What do you do when you see an actual rainbow?

Wolfiefan · 23/03/2020 12:50

I saw a window with two rainbows in it this morning. There was a young girl sitting looking out. I spotted the pictures and smiled. She waved and I waved back like a mad thing.
It made me happy.

Lovemusic33 · 23/03/2020 12:50

Weirdo 😐

It’s a bit of fun when the worlds in a bit of a mess. Get over it.

SimonJT · 23/03/2020 12:50

What do you do if you see an actual rainbow in the sky?!

I always have a rainbow flag on one of my windows, it’s a bit faded so I need to get a new one.

I take it you also take offence when someone had a rainbow baby, or when a pet passes over the rainbow bridge, the TV show rainbow must have been hugely traumatic.

OnlyJudyCanJudgeMe · 23/03/2020 12:50

Hear hear @EdersonsSmileyTattoo

This thread is another fine example of why I don't spend anywhere near as much time on MN nowadays.
