For the past few years the rainbow has sadly becomea symbol of silencing, sexual stereotyping and oppression for a lot of women and those in the LGB community. If you're thinking of putting one up, please think about how that may make women feel - many of whom have already experienced death threats and lost their friends and jobs thanks to those who wield the rainbow flag as a weapon.

I just saw two on my walk just now and it made me feel like shit. Not the intended effect I'm sure. Please consider something else: the sun coming out from a cloud, or a simple landscape. Thanks.

I'm sure your children like looking at things that don't make other people feel shit. Choose one of those instead

Nah, my girls like rainbows and will draw as many rainbows as we bloody well like. So.....jog on!

emmylousings · 23/03/2020 12:51

Sorry OP you need to get a grip - this is so trivial and as many others have pointed out, a rainbow is natural event which no organisation or set of people can 'claim' as there own or claim that it represents any particular ideology or position.

RuffleCrow · 23/03/2020 12:51

How many women have been threatened by males in welly-logod t-shirts @conrad79 ? This isn't about personal taste. This is about women having their lives ruined by people who use the rainbow as a symbol of oppression. You can joke about it all you like but that's the situation.

lottiegarbanzo · 23/03/2020 12:52

Adults do not own the rainbow.

Sonichu · 23/03/2020 12:52

aw shut up op lol

DesLynamsMoustache · 23/03/2020 12:52

Honestly OP, if the whole world is currently fighting off a deadly pandemic and all you can find to feel like shit about is a child's drawing of a rainbow, then take a good look at yourself. Absolute attention-seeking nonsense.

mummydoris2006 · 23/03/2020 12:52

38 years old and drew a rainbow for our window yesterday. Looked across the road to my parents house and saw they had one in their window too that my 69 year old dad had drawn. I am scared for my family and the world as a whole at the minute, anything that can brighten someone's day especially a child in these strange times is a positive in my eyes Smile

Wineislifex · 23/03/2020 12:53

I thought the LGBT community loves the rainbow? Why is it now a bad thing?

But anyway, no community owns a symbol it’s for everyone and if kids want to draw one and put it in the window to spread a little joy then that’s fine by me 🌈🌈🌈

wanderings · 23/03/2020 12:53

Is the rainbow bridge 🌈 🌉 poem offensive as well? It can bring great comfort to those who have lost a pet.

And what about the organisation simply called the Rainbows? Is that offensive, because of the name?

Shockers · 23/03/2020 12:53

Is anyone else singing, ‘Up above the streets and houses... 🌈’

Who better than children, en masse, to free the rainbow from its apparently negative connotations?

PepePig · 23/03/2020 12:53

Ruffle, do everyone a favour and shut up, would you?

Can you not go parent or something? No one wants to listen to your silly little opinion. A rainbow is not yours.

Findumdum1 · 23/03/2020 12:53

#reclaim the rainbow on twitter

I think most people can see it was a child's symbol of hope long before it was used for political ends. I'm going back to that.

Wannabangbang · 23/03/2020 12:53

I have never heard it being a symbol of oppression. In fact Rainbows mean hope

Strongmummy · 23/03/2020 12:53

Op - Is this a transgender thing from your perspective? I genuinely don’t get the issue, please enlighten us and there may be more understanding.

Hingeandbracket · 23/03/2020 12:53

WTAF? Are people really this hatstand?

SoupDragon · 23/03/2020 12:53

I'm sure your children like looking at things that don't make other people feel shit. Choose one of those instead.

Do you have a comprehensive list of things that won't offend anyone?

Triggered by a badly drawn rainbow. What a time to be alive.

It's something i avoid for my own children on clothes anyway because the companies that really push on tshirts it are the same ones that have done away with female only spaces: M&S etc under pressure from the genderist lobby.

Get a real problem

GreyhoundzRool · 23/03/2020 12:54

I’m glad to see this. Fed up of people thinking anything rainbow automatically related to LGBT. What if you just want something with a rainbow on ?!

Wannabangbang · 23/03/2020 12:54

Shall be draw black clouds instead as tbf thats what this world is now resembling

Morgan12 · 23/03/2020 12:55

Get. A. Fucking. Grip.

This might come as a shock so please do sit down.

Not everything is the whole world is about the LGBT community and the various oppressions they encounter.
