To ask what is the scariest roller coaster or fair ground ride you have been on?

Can be from theme parks in the uk or in another country or local fair ground rides or any others.

Mine was this:

Not that I checked but if I didn’t end up with even the tiniest bit of involuntary piss in my pants after this, I would be very surprised. It’s the closest I have ever felt like thinking that I was in so much danger I could actually die 😰

Little Candle yes Mako is terrifying and I usually love a rollercoaster! The tiny plastic triangle with handles seems barely adequate and you get so much hang time it feels like you're about to pop out of your seat. First time I've ever actually felt scared on a rollercoaster because it didn't feel like a controlled thrill at all.

My DH went on a slide called bomb bay at wet and wild without knowing what it was and came out the other end looking utterly stunned, had no idea the floor would drop out beneath him and hurtle him down the slide. We laugh about it now not so much at the time.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 21/03/2020 23:42

Just googled Mako Shock. What are you held in by!? It should have bloody over the shoulder harnesses!!

Gobbycop · 22/03/2020 01:38

Wild mouse at Littlehampton in the early 80s probably.
I'd have been in single figure years old.

Genuinely terrifying rickety old piece of shit.

mrsBtheparker · 22/03/2020 17:40

I've never been scared on any ride, my grandchildren were so impressed that I went on the Rip RIde Rocket in FLorida and didn't make a sound, almost sat there with my arms folded. Only one ride has ever made me feel unwell and oddly enough it was the Teacups at Disney, years ago, I wodered if it was the spinning twice on the same plane, ie the ride goes round and each set of cars revolves as well.

mrsBtheparker · 22/03/2020 17:45

I seem to recasll something called the Ripsaw at Alton Towers, like a huge sofa. two long rows of people, it goes up backwards and stops so that you're hanging forward then the water jets come and you get water up your nose if you're not careful!

plum100 · 22/03/2020 17:48

Another vote for Mako here. Absolutely petrifying I honestly thought at any moment it was going to ping open. My 9 year
Old went on it three times - I thought I was going to die

sunshinemachine · 22/03/2020 17:50

another vote 4 wildmouse. it was so old than i genuinely thort id be thrown off it when we got 2 the top

NastyOldBag · 22/03/2020 19:14

mrsB the pnly time I was ever sick was on a teacup ride (possibly at Disneyland Paris). I noelrmally go for the high adrenaline rides but went on this as a friend we were with didn’t like scary rides. On about the third rotation I realised I was sick and vomited my just eaten donut straight into my hands. My mates were trying to signal the ride guy to stop before I dropped the sick and it flew over them but he just shrugged and turned away. Three minutes seems a lifetime when you have a fistful of your warm stomach contents and you’re concentrating on not dropping it but also not squeezing it too hard.

Soubriquet · 22/03/2020 19:16

I love ripsaw and oblivion. And nemesis but this was before I had kids. For some reason, since I had the kids, I’ve become more of a wimp

Mako looks fun but I bet I would struggle with it now

ButterbuttSquash · 22/03/2020 19:18

@BritishHorrorStory

That Spanish one I went on at a fiesta as a kid but it was called the UFO, I think. It was erected on top of a cliff, health and safety was not at the forefront of anyone’s minds and teenagers where running backwards and forewords to throw the thing even more off kilter. Terrifying experience, genuinely surprised no one died.

AllTheseThingsThatIHaveNotDone · 22/03/2020 19:20

That and that horsey thing at Blackpool, the really old one. I was bullied on to that against my better judgement as a teenager many decades ago. It looked so benign, cute little horses and I naively believed it wouldn't be that much scarier then a carousel (which I've never entirely trusted but I think that's mostly the organ music which I feel has a sinister edge to it) Those horses were polished, probably by the sweat of the poor terrified people before me and I was too short to get my feet securely on the stirrups, if there were any, I can't quite remember. I was convinced I was going to be flung careening to my death. That's no way to go, is it?

YES! Grin Spot on description.

MissGuernsey · 22/03/2020 19:40

Isthistrueor

Eight years old going on the Grand National? The staff should have stopped you. Not your fault that you didn't realise what it was like. Grin

longearedbat · 22/03/2020 20:23

I nearly bit my tongue off on the wild mouse at Blackpool. I was sitting behind my now husband and was laughing (or possibly screaming) as we went round. We went into one of those vicious neck braking dips and my h's shoulder banged up under my chin, shutting my mouth with such force that I bit my tongue really badly. I came off there spitting blood and in agony. I'm glad to hear it's gone.

LambriniSocialist · 22/03/2020 21:46

Ripsaw was the actual best ride ever, but the last time I went on it (which was a few years ago now) they had changed the sequence of what it did and it wasn't as fun?

LambriniSocialist · 22/03/2020 21:50

There is a good ride at Thorpe Park, I can't remember what it's called now but it is basically like a giant fly swatter? It was also notorious for breaking down!

As an aside, does anyone else like to watch POV roller coaster videos on YouTube?! I think the scariest looking ride on the planet has to be Kingda Ka in America!

Dubdubdubtub · 22/03/2020 21:59

The wild Mouse at Blackpool pleasure beach. Before I went on that I would go on anything. It killed my love of fairgrounds. It the only time I went on a ride with my brother who is a total daredevil and adrenalin junkie that I heard him say the words “fucking hell” and “shhhhhiiiiiitttttttt”

Dubdubdubtub · 22/03/2020 22:00

I know I couldn’t believe it was still there last time I went

Cherrysoup · 22/03/2020 22:05

The rides at the top of the Stratosphere tower in Las Vegas, 1000ft up. Bloody terrifying.

Some friends got the photo of them on it during their honeymoon. Total kudos to them, I lay on the slanted window inside (with my DH screaming at me to get off it 😂) but no way in hell could I do the rollercoaster. I can’t do them anyway, I puke horribly. 🤮

Probably the worst I’ve been on was the Space Ship at Alton Towers, puked my guts up as I came off.

NastyOldBag · 22/03/2020 22:07

Oh God. I’d forgotten how Ripsaw used to water board you. It was bloody traumatising!

Honeyroar · 22/03/2020 22:34

Oh yes Dubdubdub those horses at Blackpool were awful the way they tilted and lurched! I’m a qualified riding instructor and I could barely stay on the things!

BritishHorrorStory · 23/03/2020 00:02

I went on Ripsaw for the very last ride of the day? You know how they tease you with the water and make you think you were going to get wet but the jets would go down just at the right time? And then I think they flick bits of water on you? They don’t do that on the last ride of the day. They proper full on drench you. We were soaked and my dad was absolutely FURIOUS when we walked back to the car to meet him looking like a pair of drowned rats. He had to go and buy towels to put on the back seat of the car.

@policeandthieves
Oakwood !
Never been and don't plan on trying Grin

Fuss · 23/03/2020 10:20

I loved megaphobia is it at Oakwood? Love a wooden coaster, but It was years ago when the park was in good shape. Last time I went it was dilapidated to say the least and trip advisor reviews were truly terrible.

babbi · 23/03/2020 10:32

Leviathan in Canada’s Wonderland 😱

Whatsnewpussyhat · 23/03/2020 11:50

Leviathan and Mako clearly made by same people. Same weird triangle thing holding you in!
