... When you saw me stood there waiting to get my 6 month old her formula and you took the last 4 packs...

Fuck you! Selfish pig!

It’s easy to judge but my dd used to go through a tin and a half a week.

Self isolation, means we would need a minimum of 3 tins to cope with a two week stint. Which means I would need a spare just in case she had a sudden growth spurt and needed more milk than normal.

So yes 4 tins would be about right for two weeks.

Marieo · 19/03/2020 11:26

Many people would be in the same boat though, yes you would have 2 weeks worth just in case, someone else would have none. Perhaps not even any to feed their child immediately if they had been struggling elsewhere. Yes that is selfish, it is understandable to put yours first, but own it rather than try and justify it.

Soubriquet · 19/03/2020 11:41

Of course I’m going to own it Confused

I’m self isolating now and bloody glad I don’t have babies who need formula, but if I did, damn right I’m going to make sure I have enough for those 2 weeks.

I can’t go out. No one in my family can go out. I have no one else. What am I supposed to do? Buy 2 and then say “sorry darling. I was being kind to others. You’ll have to wean early/starve”

Theweasleytwins · 19/03/2020 11:45

Hopefully he does use it in place of actual milk in his tea
It tastes awful

Marieo · 19/03/2020 11:51

@Soubriquet happy for others to go without any though. Nice. Plenty of people will be in the situation of self isolating without any, some with tiny babies. As long as we just think of ourselves though, rather than getting say 2 and understanding that if people don't keep being so selfish delivery slots would be more widely available eh.

Soubriquet · 19/03/2020 11:52

But this is the problem!

It’s ok to think about others, but why is YOUR child going without so others don’t?

It’s a fine line.

Marieo · 19/03/2020 11:54

If he had bought even 3 and left 1 for the person waiting behind him who obviously wanted it, then even that would be reasonable-ish. His child wouldn't be going without, there's a risk it would be a worry in over a week (3 tubs for a baby who needs formula ie is under 6 months doesn't run out in a day); but they would have milk. The person behind has zero. Good job it's not wartime really, we would never have got through it these days, so selfish. And yes, I formula feed so get the stress.

MoonBlood · 19/03/2020 12:01

I can’t speak for all pharmacies but my mother is a pharmacist and when I queried if they could order baby milk she said that they can only order milk for babies needing specialised milks for medical reasons.

Walkacrossthesand · 19/03/2020 12:57

How do you report rip-off sellers to eBay? I picked one at random (from the many!) and tried, but it's all drop-down menu choices and none of the options fit. I don't think it's actually illegal in this country is it, unlike the USA?

Isthistrueor · 19/03/2020 13:27

I know this may sound goady but I’m relieved I breastfeed and use reusable nappies more than ever. The shortage on other supplies is bad enough but I think I’d have an actual meltdown if I couldn’t feed my baby. Such a sad time.

popcornpaws · 19/03/2020 14:50

I worked for asda and they always had a limit on formula, two per customer.

Not being funny but to everyone who says "you're selfish, you don't mind taking it as long as you are alright" etc, when it comes specifically to baby formula, do you really expect people to knowingly get less than they need for the sake of other people?

I want to stock up on food but I've been wary of what I buy, striking a balance between what I know we will eat and what is more widely available. But when it comes to formula, I'm already struggling to find aptamil and it absolutely cannot be substituted for anything else. Formula is formula especially for those of us with small babies who are nowhere near weaning.

I mean if there are lots on the shelf and people are trying to buy 10 then I understand the outcry, but 4 really isn't that much, especially when it has already been demonstrated that it's only about 2 weeks worth for lots of people

Marieo · 19/03/2020 16:45

No we dont expect people to think of others, it's not a surprise is it. Happy to leave someone with zero, it's shameful though to be honest.

Chista · 19/03/2020 16:54

@isthistrueor totally goady. I was in Tesco and there were 3 Aptamil 1 on the shelf and I could see others needed it too, I had my LO with me, they did not. I took only 1 box, so a heathen of a women actually said to me - I am glad I bf and am not panicking, if you had learned how to bf neither would you. Now my first instinct was to punch her but I resisted and simply said, well if you had learned not to be such an asshole then you wouldn't need all those toilet papers you have in your trolley.

CecileMilkins · 19/03/2020 17:14

The government should be issuing RATION BOOKS to every household based on the number of people who live there, with coupons for items that are now in short supply.

It’s the only way to ensure its done fairly.

MissPoldark · 19/03/2020 17:25

@Chista The nasty cheek of the bitch, I can’t believe someone would actually say something so utterly cruel.

LHMBF · 19/03/2020 17:39

Chista what a bitch, who the hell says that! Good for you on your reply Cake

Chista · 19/03/2020 17:39

@MissPoldark that's exactly what I thought. I have seen people remove items from other peoples trolleys when they are not looking.its absolutely horrendous. I have received many funny looks and insults under the breath because sometimes I have more than people think I should in my trolley but we operate a neighbourhood watch scheme were we are buying goods that are requested by the elderly and vulnerable.

bloodywhitecat · 19/03/2020 18:15

What a judgemental comment to make, as a foster mum to a small baby I would've found that hard to take so well done for a quick comeback.

Moodymagpie · 19/03/2020 19:22

Seriously... The people on here. What a shame society has gone to pot!
