... When you saw me stood there waiting to get my 6 month old her formula and you took the last 4 packs...

Fuck you! Selfish pig!

If it brings any hope, there was lots of aptamil in my local boots aTo day and I managed to buy Calpol from an independent pharmacy (thankfully as my baby has a fever approaching 40). It is really horrid being out of thing for babies. They are so dependent. Something has to be done re formula- it’s just not fair. It is a far more basic need than bloody toilet roll and needs some intervention.

Beesisabuzzin · 18/03/2020 20:52

Did you not just ask him for one?

WhatTiggersDoBest · 18/03/2020 20:53

Join the Human Milk for Human Babies UK Facebook group they are hooking up hungry babies with local mamas who have spare expressed breastmilk stored. The situation is really bad.

bloodywhitecat · 18/03/2020 20:53

Maybe people should be asked to show a birth certificate to buy formula?

Wouldn't work. I foster a small baby, I don't have that document.

Winterwoollies · 18/03/2020 20:54

I’ve witnessed a woman basically swipe the lot into her trolley in our local supermarket. She was extremely aggressive when challenged by other shoppers. When you see Facebook Marketplace rammed with marked up formula, you can’t help but despise these utter selfish bastards profiteering. Which is what I suspect she was.

Before I get lynched, she may have had 37 baby grandchildren at home, she may have been donating them to the food bank, but her shitty tone suggested otherwise....

Ellie56 · 18/03/2020 20:54

She was made put 77 of them back. Good. I hope it took her ages and she felt embarrassed. Selfish cow.

LolaDarkdestroyer · 18/03/2020 20:54

Selfish prick, what did he actually say though?

ByGrabtharsHammerWhatASavings · 18/03/2020 20:55

Oh come on now. The OP is stood there with a baby, looking at a man who is selfish and shameless enough to empty the shelves of baby milk right in front of her, in the middle of a crisis which has everyone acting like savages, and you thinks she should have challenged him over it?! Sure. Hey OP, now you know for next time, if you don't risk provoking a man who may become aggressive or threatening, when you're vulnerable and with an infant, you only have yourself to blame if you miss out on essential resources.

He doesn't have triplets at home, he isn't buying it for the local orphanage, he's just a cunt. A cunt who probably would have given the OP a load of abuse if she'd called him out on it.

PurpleGoose · 18/03/2020 20:55

@margotsline unfortunately homemade isn't fortified with calcium or iodine so only ok for emergencies.

Thanks for the recipe though as I was unable to get any in our shop today and have 2 dairy (amongst other things) allergic DCs - aged 1 & 3, plus I'm still bf so can't have dairy either.

Ellie56 · 18/03/2020 20:56

I think the stores should have started rationing way before now. The Pound Shop was selling paracetamol and ibuprofen yesterday.

Bottletopsx · 18/03/2020 20:56

Just checked and Boots have stock.
Scum profiteers are charging £20 for one pack of bread mix on Amazon.
Normally £1

zombieapocalypseisnigh · 18/03/2020 20:58

I know several sets of little twins and a set of triplets. They would all blow through 4 tins of milk in less than a week.

Marieo · 18/03/2020 20:59

I can't believe people sticking up for him taking 4 when someone is waiting. Yes he may be desperate, aren't we all.

TheGoogleMum · 18/03/2020 20:59

I think it's selfish of him to take last 4 packs. He could have left 1 at least!

Although we're in a predicament of decidedly not stockpiling but we normally do a monthly shop online. We did it as normal early March but April one looks unlikely but we'll look like hoarders if we go to a supermarket...

LaCherriesJubilee · 18/03/2020 21:00

People are absolutely buying up things like baby milk and nappies to list on eBay and make money from desperate people. And eBay and Amazon are not doing enough to clamp down on it.

Olawisk · 18/03/2020 21:00

I’d take 4 if I needed them. You don’t know how many kids he got.

LolaDarkdestroyer · 18/03/2020 21:00

eBay shouldn't be allowing it though so they are to blame as well but they get their fees don't they money money money, all cunts.

BabloHoney · 18/03/2020 21:01

I saw a woman in the supermarket buying way more baby formula then she needed.. asked her if she really needed so much and was told to “f*ck right off”!

I have a 5 month old who’s combination fed, could try exclusively breast feeding so it’s one more tub of formula milk for someone who really needs it, but I fear it would just be one more tub of formula for someone to stockpile.

LaCherriesJubilee · 18/03/2020 21:02

He doesn't have triplets at home, he isn't buying it for the local orphanage, he's just a cunt.

Quite likely. Even if he has twins, 2 would have done for now. But maybe he has very poorly quadruplets. Poor bloke Sad Sad Sad

contentedsoul · 18/03/2020 21:02

I can’t even imagine how scary this must be for all of you with babies.
Our son is 12, totally out of what’s happening in real time - WiFi and Chocolate is his only concern....wish I was 12!!

MargotsLine · 18/03/2020 21:03

@PurpleGoose ah I have teenagers, I forgot about the fortified bit for young children. Blush

iolaus · 18/03/2020 21:07

I know a few of the chemists round here have said if you ask them they will order it for you and keep it behind the counter till you come in (actually the local coop offered someone the same)

DH went to Sainsbury's earlier - I have coeliacs and he was trying to buy a pack of GF pasta for me as well as a pack of normal pasta (for him and the kids) the woman wouldn't sell him both - so he put back the normal pasta as we have a small (less than a bag) of normal pasta at home - even when he pointed out they aren't the same - he's buying two different bags as different people have different dietary needs it was no

GabsAlot · 18/03/2020 21:11

in tesco they couldnt even put through the till extra if there wa a limit the system was prgrammed to reject the item-i assume most big supermarkets have this

OptimisticSix · 18/03/2020 21:13

I'd have to agree with everyone who said we don't know his circumstances. We are a big family and the limit thing could make things tricky for us. That said if I were you I'd have asked him for one.

PinkSpring · 18/03/2020 21:14

I had to go to four different stores today to find cow & gate first milk for my 12 week old!

It's ridiculous, it shouldn't have gotten to this stage! People need to calm the fuck down and stop buying like it's the apocalypse!
