... When you saw me stood there waiting to get my 6 month old her formula and you took the last 4 packs...

Fuck you! Selfish pig!

I'm glad I don't have a small baby at this time. However I would buy it for someone i knew was struggling and give it to them. E.g they couldn't get out etc.

Yes so bad is all this.. There was a photo of an elderly man on the internet earlier, he was stooping down, trying to read his little shopping list on a bit of paper. He was stood in a supermarket aisle, and the aisle. was devoid of other people, and all the shelves in the aisle were completely empty !

mathanxiety · 19/03/2020 02:11

@SinkGirl you can make your own oat milk. Look up instructions online.

You will need porridge oats.

Rubyupbeat · 19/03/2020 02:14

I bought 2 x 9 loo rolls today, to share out between 3 elderly neighbours and friends mum and her mums friend ,all in their 80s and 90s, that could have looked like I was greedy.
I have found local shops are the best for most things where I live. Except for the green grocer. Charging a tenner for a tiny bottle of hand gels, he has now been boycotted by lots of locals!

loubieloo4 · 19/03/2020 02:22

We were shopping in ASDA earlier and found 2 tubs of Aptimal baby powder in the cereal aisle (presumably taken off somebody) I got dd to take them back to the empty baby shelves. I only knew there was a shortage after finding a new mum in tears on Sunday evening as she was going to run out of milk for her six week old.

Thankfully mine are all teenagers and above, I can't imagine worrying about how you are going to feed your newborn.

TreeTopTim · 19/03/2020 06:00

He may have put 4 tins in his trolley but did you see him going through the checkout?

My local supermarket has introduced a 3 items only policy on everything. Staff were inspecting everyone's shopping and taking the extras off of them.

NotEverythingIsBlackandwhite · 19/03/2020 06:36

It is likely he wouldn't have been allowed to have all 4 tins of formula when he got to the checkout.

I was in Asda last night and their own security guard was told he couldn't be sold more than 2 long life milk. (Although I did note he said he'd put it back and, when I watched to see if he did, he took it over to his fellow security worker and then just held them up to say he was having them). He wasn't refused the 5 bags of flour in his box though.

I was speaking to a really helpful assistant who was stocking shelves (and who opened up large packs of paracetamol so customers could help themselves before they got onto the shelves) who said at 6 a. m. yesterday there was a queue of about 40 people with trolleys queuing up when they opened.

Supermarket staff are working damn hard and often getting grief for the situation which is beyond the control of most of them. I'm very grateful to them, especially to one in sainsbury's who gave me her personal mini hand sanitizer the other day. I tried to refuse and she insisted on giving it to me. What a great act of kindness.

paininthepoinsettia · 19/03/2020 06:43

I am part of a SEN group and 3 of the families have had to go into complete isolation as their child contracting corona would be fatal. I have nominated myself to get their shopping, so to shop workers I may look like a selfish hoarder as I'm going shopping every morning due to the rationing of products.

gingersausage · 19/03/2020 06:46

@Curious78 don’t be such a bloody martyr. How is it CONSIDERATE to not ensure you have enough milk in for your own baby?

tiredanddangerous · 19/03/2020 06:46

The supermarkets are introducing restrictions but people are paying for their shopping, putting it in their car and then going back in again for another load. Or husband and wife go together, two trollies, two transactions and double the amount they should have. It’s sickening really.

CloudyVanilla · 19/03/2020 07:37

@MigginsMrs that is absolutely not true for everyone though. My baby is only 8 weeks old and 1 tub of formula has not gotten us through a whole week since he stopped combination feeding. He goes through the best part of 2 tubs a week.

AngelsSins · 19/03/2020 07:58

OP this is my point. You have NO IDEA what his circumstances are

So fucking what?! He had no idea what OPs circumstances were and he didn’t give a crap about her, so why are you telling a woman to have understanding and empathy for a man who showed none to her?

PegasusReturns · 19/03/2020 08:30

@angelsins in fairness the OP didn’t speak to the man so how was he to know?!

AngelsSins · 19/03/2020 08:34

in fairness the OP didn’t speak to the man so how was he to know?!

And he didn’t speak to her, so how is she to know?

Moodymagpie · 19/03/2020 08:55

I didn't speak to him because he was a bitch rough type and I don't fancy having my head knocked off my shoulders... He was barging his way through the rest of the store. Butting people out of the way... I doubt this man has twins or more.. If he does then 3 would have sufficed. I had my baby blwith me and he just smirked at me as he walked away.. So no. I don't particularly care about his circumstances when he saw me and my baby and smirked at me.

It's all very well the store putting notices up on the shelves explaining its fair shopping policy, and limiting numbers of certain core items, but we the cashiers have to police it.

That's appalling, I'd have thought they would be able to put limits on transactions so it's not possible to complete the purchase if number of rationed items is exceeded.

I watched some tosser walking around with the entire box of hand sanitisers in Asda the other day, many people are not going to comply with these limits of their own free will.

Purplequalitystreet · 19/03/2020 09:29

My DP was chatting to the cashier in Aldi yesterday and was told that you can reserve tins of formula if there are none available. He didn't because we're ok for the moment but good to know if anyone is struggling. They seem to be getting in deliveries every day.

PegasusReturns · 19/03/2020 09:30

And he didn’t speak to her, so how is she to know?

People do need to be a bit proactive. If someone has something you need the expectation is that you ask.

zsazsajuju · 19/03/2020 09:35

This thread seems a bit mean. You are making all sorts of assumptions about that man. You have no idea if any of them are true

Wannabangbang · 19/03/2020 09:36

Unfortunately 4 cans doesn't last long and who knows how many babies he has or even twins, he might have bought the other 2 cans for a family member

Think the problem lies more with people buying 10 of everything and yes ive seen it, they are bum holes of society

maa1992 · 19/03/2020 09:43

I went through the same thing yesterday!!

FlamingoAndJohn · 19/03/2020 09:46

@SinkGirl. Look into Milk and More. They stock Oatly organic and Barista as well as their own variety of oat milk in a glass bottle.

melj1213 · 19/03/2020 10:19

My DP was chatting to the cashier in Aldi yesterday and was told that you can reserve tins of formula if there are none available.

I wouldnt rely on that. I work in a supermarket and normally we are quite happy to hold items (for a day or two) or call customers when products come in if something they need is out of stock but since the CV outbreak this has been suspended as it is impossible to enforce and causes absolute anarchy, especially when it is stuff that is selling out fast like loo roll and baby milk.

IamtheDevilsAvocado · 19/03/2020 10:34

I have no ace to grind, having no small children....
What these posts prove....

Most people are socially responsible and decent....

A few are happy to swipe the last resources as 'I'm putting my baby first... It's not selfish!' ... Actually yes it bloody be IS SELFISH... It means if you have 5 tins four other families have nothing... But you don't care.. As YOU are alright.

Because of the latter I believe we will be soon going on some government backed coupon /rationing system.... So if you have ill triplets, 20 grandchildren you're doing a shop for... The system allows for it...
