Now I don't look at the past with rose tinted glasses as I'm sure sexual deviants have existed since time began, however having read this story today of grime artist, solo 45, being convicted of horrific sexual assaults on multiple partners which included waterboarding, threatening with guns and beating for sexual gratification it struck me how, in a relatively short period of time, sexual boundaries have been pushed to breaking point for many women with practices such as strangulation and slapping seen by many as vanilla sex.

I would never want to go back to my 20s and face dating todays' porn inspired men and feel very sad for young women having to navigate this.

@JustInCaseCakeHappens Oh, revenge porn was shockingly common before internet porn sites existed? I had no idea... I thought cases were increasing quite rapidly causing womens lives to be destroyed currently. Also it's very difficult to get a video removed from a porn site.

Marital/relationship rape, physical and emotional abuse and sexual harassment are still extremely extremely common and violence against women is aggressively promoted to men and boys via porn.....

But...there are laws against them now. Actually legal protections. Which didn't exist 30 years ago. There are support services, there is legal aid, there are multi agency domestic abuse conferences every month in every area. Therefore...things are better for women now.

Wait what..? I have not implied that. Women have been suffering immensely at the hands of men for a very long time. My point was that I didn't realise revenge porn was the huge widespread and common issue it was today before porn sites existed. I thought statistics show that it's on the rise.... MANY of the videos on porn sites are there without the womans consent and often without her even knowing it was filmed, this is a huge huge issue at the moment

TBH its a bit rough to judge an entire generation of young men on the basis of a grime rapper! As women its our duty to care for our sons and teach them a healthy respect for women surely . My own DS and his 20 something chums are decent and respectable . OLD should be approached with caution ,but not everyone on there is a pervert FFS! No one would meet anyone if they followed this approach!

How would you know? You hadn’t even been thought of 30 years ago. Marital rape was about as prevalent then as it is now I suspect. Domestic violence hasn’t decreased, the police didn’t prosecute 30 years ago and I can’t say I’ve noticed a decrease in sexual harassment in the workplace, despite it having been illegal since 1984.

Not that this has anything to do with the normalisation of unpleasant sexual practices and women being pressured into doing things that make them uncomfortable or they find abhorrent.

I believe the official statistics are 9 out of 10 young men regurarly watch porn, you can do your own research if you'd like. I'm not sure you realise how popular and widespread porn actually is...

The explosion of the internet infected lots of young boys minds to the point they think anal at 14/15/16 is completely standard and push that pressure on to young girls. These young boys turned in to men who think women are like trash and can scroll past hundreds of women on dating apps like cattle and then send them dick pics.

Men were just as bad if not worse in the 1980's when I was a young woman.
We had extreme misogyny and date/marital rape was considered quite normal.

Wow...do your own research. It's not me who is obsessed with porn. Also it's a FACT that the vast majority of porn contains violence, coercion themes etc! Not to mention that the women in porn are actual humans who are enduring this and often are genuinely raped, if they dont finish the scene, they wont be paid.

I'll try to find it but some girls (children) were interviewed about this topic and reported swapping blowjobs for kisses as well as whether the sex was good or not in the girls opinion being based off what the male thought and how she looked to him... By all means ignore the issue and pretend it doesn't exist but girls and women ARE suffering because of porn and that's a fact.

I stopped watching it several years ago but I care very much about girls and women, doesn't mean I'm obsessed with porn. I'd say the young men and boys who are watching it daily are the ones who are obsessed with porn. Caring about an issue is different to being obsessed...
