AIBU to say that this meal is *not* a gravy meal

Made shepherd’s pie this evening. Was serving it (with green beans in butter) and DH said “I’ll just make myself some gravy”

AIBU to think that made-from-scratch shepherd’s pie, with its built-in gravy, does not require added bistro? Is this my LTB moment or is that ketchup?

I make my cottage pie with a tablespoon of branston pickle in the meat mix. It improves it no end.

hoxtonbabe · 10/03/2020 19:49

@QueenOfThorns

How the heck do you even eat it with mayonnaise.. ketchup is bad enough this is next level filth!

Does he mix it in... urghhh the thought of it is making my stomach churn ( which is good as I’ve been eying up a cream cake in the fridge I shouldn’t be eating)

Disfordarkchocolate · 10/03/2020 19:49

I like my Shepherds Pie with Savoury Rice and no gravy. He's very unreasonable.

SunshineDays2019 · 10/03/2020 19:50

YANBU, but YABU for saying "made from scratch" instead of "homemade" Grin

yanbu. I did a cottage pie with colley cheese for lunch with a yorkshire pud but no extra gravy.

avocadoze · 10/03/2020 19:50

🤢 Heinz beans actually in the shepherd’s pie, with all the runny orange starchy gloop mixing with the mince, carrots and peas 🤮

I am thinking that compared to beans, bisto may be the civilised option.

Gravy for all!

managedmis · 10/03/2020 19:51

What's all this codswallop about baked beans?

enjoyingscience · 10/03/2020 19:51

Always extra gravy. I don’t really have a view on Shepard’s pie (veggie), but there’s very little can’t be improved with some gravy.

ThePolishWombat · 10/03/2020 19:52

I make my meaty base absolutely drowning in gravy, then drain off the excess before I construct the shepherds pie in the dish, and save it to pour over the top when it’s on my plate.

Can never have too much gravy Grin

PardonWhat · 10/03/2020 19:52

The correct way to serve it is with ketchup.

heidbuttsupper · 10/03/2020 19:53

Cheese!

MyHeartIsBrokeButIHaveSomeGlue · 10/03/2020 19:53

Another one for gravy! There can NEVER be too much gravy!

JasonBrun · 10/03/2020 19:54

I can't believe you served it without gravy tbh

Redcrayons · 10/03/2020 19:55

I hate gravy, so I wouldn’t put it on anything. However, I agree that pie is a gravy meal.

My ExH used to put chili sauce on everything. Every single meal, there’s have to be something he could dip in chili sauce.

madcatladyforever · 10/03/2020 19:55

Well a bit more gravy wouldn't go amiss.

Oakmaiden · 10/03/2020 19:55

I prefer ketchup.

Just saying.

Shinycat · 10/03/2020 19:56

@avocadoze

I think shepherds/cottage pie doesn't need gravy, but YABU to assume others wouldn't want it. My DH has a little gravy-boat full of gravy with most meals, (even if he has a pie that has it in already,) because we have lots of veg, and he likes gravy over his veg.

couchlover · 10/03/2020 19:56

Of course you need gravy!

dennisdonut · 10/03/2020 19:56

No beans 🤮
No bisto because it’s not gravy 🤮
I normally make a big batch of onion gravy and freeze in portions for such occasions

msmith501 · 10/03/2020 19:56

It needs gravy because it has a mashed potato topping. Shimples.

MamaFlintstone · 10/03/2020 19:56

I wholeheartedly agree with you but my DH would disagree. We’ve had this exact argument discussion many times.

Hercwasonaroll · 10/03/2020 19:56

You can never have too much gravy

Etinox · 10/03/2020 19:58

@APatchyTomCat
“Can you believe some dirty fecking animals serve baked beans with it”
Jamie Oliver says to serve baked beans with fish pie! 🤮
