AIBU to say that this meal is *not* a gravy meal

Made shepherd’s pie this evening. Was serving it (with green beans in butter) and DH said “I’ll just make myself some gravy”

AIBU to think that made-from-scratch shepherd’s pie, with its built-in gravy, does not require added bistro? Is this my LTB moment or is that ketchup?

I agree with your bloke. It needs gravy and it's up to him really.

mathanxiety · 10/03/2020 19:34

YABU to equate Bisto with gravy.

FruityWidow · 10/03/2020 19:34

Needs gravy.

Teacup34 · 10/03/2020 19:36

Agree with pp you can never have too much gravy!! I always serve extra with shepherd's pie, now if someone got the ketchup out that would be different that would send me into melt down!!

HeresMe · 10/03/2020 19:36

The mash needs gravy on too.

A lot of meals are improved by gravy, a jacket spud with butter and gravy is lush.

SummerHouse · 10/03/2020 19:37

And he was to make it himself. Not asking you to make it.

Also baked beans. Yum! I am a proud dirty feckin animal! Interestingly, baked beans for me negates the need for gravy. Win, win.

slashlover · 10/03/2020 19:38

YANBU to not want gravy, HINBU to want gravy.

AIBU to like/not like this food/thing posts annoy me. If you don't like it then that's fine, if he does like it then that's fine too. FFS!

MegaClutterSlut · 10/03/2020 19:38

Yabu

Yup more gravy. Had mince and dumplings made for me, had to make gravy as it was so dry.

CaptainMyCaptain · 10/03/2020 19:38

Shepherd's pie has its own gravy. No extra gravy required.

AnneOfCloves · 10/03/2020 19:38

YANBU, shepherd's pie and cottage pie should both have loads of gravy as part of the dish.

Unless you make a particularly dry shepherds pie, maybe? But I'm sure you didn't.

Bisto isn't gravy it's what you have when you don't have it - the Camp Coffee of the gravy world. Let him have his substandard muck.

avocadoze · 10/03/2020 19:39

Baked beans? As in haricot beans stirred into the pie? Or actual tin of orange stuff stirred into pie? Or served as an accompaniment?

No meals are gravy meals. Gravy is revolting.

Kastanien · 10/03/2020 19:39

I'm TeamGravy too I am afraid!

Teacaketotty · 10/03/2020 19:40

Baked beans on the side is amazing, don’t knock it till you’ve tried it! Wink

FrangipaniBlue · 10/03/2020 19:40

Can you believe some dirty fecking animals serve baked beans with it

DH would've had beans AND extra gravy. I know I should just LTB.

pinklillie · 10/03/2020 19:42

Gravy and HP!

hoxtonbabe · 10/03/2020 19:43

depends on how it’s been made, in theory it shouldn’t need more gravy but there has been times I’ve had it and gravy is needed . Ketchup is just wrong but with baked beans is the best.

QueenOfThorns · 10/03/2020 19:43

YANBU OP, it’s not a gravy meal. If it makes you feel any better, my DH insists on eating shepherd’s pie with mayonnaise. And my poor little DD has just started doing the same Shock

Slith · 10/03/2020 19:44

Shepherds pie always comes with extra gravy.

BalanchineBallet · 10/03/2020 19:44

@avocadoze

Tip a tin of baked beans, like Heinz meanz beanz style into cottage pie. Not shepherds though, that needs gravy.

onalongsabbatical · 10/03/2020 19:46

Shepherd's pie has Branston Pickle with it. Them's the rules.

SummerHouse · 10/03/2020 19:47

Thread derail. Do not tip the beans on. Serve on the side. THE SIDE I tells you.

Hairydogmummy · 10/03/2020 19:48

YANBU! I'd kill my DH if he suggested pouring bisto in my homemade shepherds pie. The dish is mince in proper homemade gravy! Why pollute it with processed 'gravy'?Filthy stuff.

PurpleFlower1983 · 10/03/2020 19:48

I would hate it without the gravy. YABU
