AIBU to wear a poncho?

PardonWhat · 10/03/2020 18:28

Just that really.
Was trying to find something high necked this morning in a vain attempt to hide the fact that I’ve ran out of a lighter foundation and I ended up discovering a long forgotten poncho.
I stood in front of the mirror for a while before concluding that I looked fucking ridiculous.
Are ponchos still a thing?
Should I rock it? I did used to live in it.

And yes, before anyone points out, this is possibly the most trivial AIBU ever.

I love ponchos, so cosy. I don't care what anyone thinks Grin

Usually I don’t but even I thought I looked a bit ridiculous. I can’t remember the last time I saw one!

I saw a woman today wearing a grey poncho and it looked so great I've made a mental note to look for one for myself

Dozer · 10/03/2020 18:51

I had an amazing one when was 3 and have always wanted another one, but not bought one. You have inspired me to change that!

Slith · 10/03/2020 18:58

Hah. I thought that this was going to be another CV thread....

PardonWhat · 10/03/2020 19:02

I’m glad I’ve inspired. Through the medium of poncho.

What’s a CV thread?

I love a poncho.... anything warm and flingy is right up there on my list of things to wear

My most favourite was STOLEN from the swimming pool....I took it off while getting the children dressed, what with it being hotter than hell on a hot day in there, and got to the car, realised what I had done and went back and it was gone. I hope it choked whoever pinched it.

I keep meaning to go rake about on ravelry for a pattern to make one.

lazylinguist · 10/03/2020 19:12

YANBU. Ponchos are fab. I have two and haven't worn them for ages - thanks for the reminder, OP! I'm also a knitter and really fancy making one.

weaselwords · 10/03/2020 19:13

My 18 year old has two and wears them a lot so they must be cool.

I have about 5 ponchos. Lightweight ones in several colours for the office to hide my cheapo vest tops. A heavy knitted one for winter. Love them.

LellyMcKelly · 10/03/2020 19:25

Ponchos are fabulous. Practical AND sexy.

mintyroller · 10/03/2020 19:25

I haven't got one, but I'd like one I think.

Though I think it depends on what you wear it with. i saw a woman wearing one while I was walking through the station today and it was a sorta American South Western block pattern, and she was wearing tight knee high boots that looked a bit like riding boots.....it looked cool, but a little bit "Fistful of Dollars."

TheWordmeister · 10/03/2020 19:30

I've got 2 ponchos from Jigsaw. Light grey and navy.

For spring they are perfect with skinny jeans and a fitted top.

MrsEricBana · 10/03/2020 19:31

I thought everyone wore ponchos. I do. All the time. Blush

ShanghaiDiva · 10/03/2020 19:32

I love ponchos and have three cashmere ones. Wear them all the time.

Minutewaltz · 10/03/2020 19:34

I adore my poncho.
However could UK wearers be accused of cultural approbation?

PardonWhat · 10/03/2020 19:36

I hope it choked whoever pinched it. Grin

Will0wtree - that’s literally the outfit I’d put together. I think I’ll stick with the ‘cool’ aspect of the comment.

I’m going to rock it tomorrow - thanks for the pep talk all.

Minutewaltz

Probably. But I was naked I’d currently get accused of appropriating a pig so there’s no winners there 🐷

Love a poncho! I am 46 and uncool though Grin

My best ever buy was a DKNY dark grey knitted one about 20 years ago. It's still going strong, though I've had to debobble it a few times. Had loads of compliments when I've worn it.

FruityWidow · 10/03/2020 19:39

Only when working on the computer or sat watching TV. They're useless if you need to move about and they get you're arms cold. And for most cases I just wrap an over sized blanket or shawl instead.

pinklillie · 10/03/2020 19:41

I love my ponchos but my DH always says Clint where is your horse 🐴 I don't think I'm cool enough to pull it off unfortunately

lastburritos · 10/03/2020 19:44

I love my woolly poncho....like legitimately wearing a blanket at work!!
